Taiwanese food Smile Jul 10, 2012

Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Noodles

Though the restaurant doesn't really advertise that the cuisine is Taiwanese so much, it's rather authentic. We decided that it'd be more value to order from the menu.

This dish was a slight disappointment as it didn't have the flavor that I was looking for.

The fried chicken pieces were hot when they came out and had fried basil leaves too. However, the pepper/salt combination that usually accompanies it wasn't so apparent.

The highlight of the meal really was the Stewed Pork over Rice and the Beef Noodles.
The Stewed Pork over rice had pretty much the texture and taste that you'd normally eat at the local food stalls in Taiwan--of course, at a more hefty price.

The Beef Noodles' soup was pretty much on the dot as well, however, the noodle could have been more al dente and more similar to the traditional beef noodles. It is, however, rather difficult to get the correct taste for the beef soup so I think it's a good job already. Beef pieces could have been a bit more tender and chewy though as they were rather hard and not as juicy.

Friend ordered the jasmine milk tea and I had the guava float which was pretty good. Could have opted for no Konnyaku jelly though as it reminded me of the tadpoles that Singapore desserts sometime have.

Avocado Milk OK Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Food Court

Fresh avocado juice plus an additional 50cents to add milk in order to get Avocado Milk.
One thing I liked about this stall is that they didn't add gula melaka (Coconut sugar).
Also, the ice in the drink wasn't filled to the brink as if the stall owners wanted to try to get away with giving you less of the actual juice.
The size of the juice was just about right but the total cost of the drink cost about $4.00 shocked

Despite their specialty dish being Tonkatsu, none of us ordered the dish. Instead, we tried to pick dishes that seemed to be more healthy.

There was a coupon that was available outside which would give you a free drink. I would really advise against getting the milk tea. Perhaps because the drinks are free, their quality of drinks were really not up to standard. Please stick with the Ochya if you're paying for the drinks.

The grilled chicken salad was a good choice though.

The sauce was perfect, tasty, and was light at the same time. They should really try to highlight and sell this dish more.

The fish presentation looked almost exact to the menu that was given to us. We were also surprised at the size of the fish as most of the time, restaurants would offer a smaller porition.

Another healthy option that salad eaters can consider smile

Set Meal for Dinner Smile Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Ordered the set meal for 2
It included drinks, sashimi, salad, and you could choose from a few other options

The milk tea tasted a little weird which was disappointing as I thought watami would have decent milk tea. The salmon sashimi, however, was rather fresh.

The salad was one of my favorite dishes of the night. Despite it being a part of each set meal, the salad dressing paired really well. The salad pieces seemed fresh and crunchy and I liked how it the salad sauce was not thousand island based but had the Japanese "He Feng" Sauce.

The bibimbap was decent, but the sauce could have been more authentic. Waiter/waitress should have asked whether they needed to help serve as first timers may not know how to deal with this dish.

The soup in the hotpot was pretty good, though a tad salty. The waiter was also very willing to top up the soup base as the bowl wasn't very deep. Would have been good if the beef was served separately as the meat was the first to go as we didn't want to overcook it.

The clams weren't bad, would have been better if there was more alcohol used to cook it, but itw as served in a claypot which kept it warm.

Raw Fish Porridge Smile Jun 03, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Kids-Friendly

Those whom are feeling under the weather, with elderly, or kids-- this is a good choice as it's quite a hassle-free dish to choose.

There was barely a line for the store and hence the food could be obtained quickly. We didn't think the Raw Fish Porridge would mean that the Fish would be served separately on another plate. Luckily, my friend and I are okay with sashimi.Put the fish slices into the porridge, and the slices would cook due to the heat of the porridge. The porridge was thick and you were not able to taste the individual rice pieces--perfect! The sauce they provided was also not full of soy sauce, hence no need to be afraid of over-saltiness.

I ailing throat felt quite soothed after this bowl or congee.
