Buffet with the Family OK Apr 05, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Buffet

Sashimi and oysters are given via request. There's no sign out front to indicate what's available. You pretty much have to look at what the person is ordering in front or ask the chef on hand. The slices were decent, but I wouldn't say fantastic

The concept here is different from a lot of buffets I've been to. Usually individual stations consists of roasted meats, but there were quite a few individual stations where you had to line up, order, and wait. If it's not convenient for you to walk and stand around, you'd be missing out on some of the food.

The pepper crayfish may look very salty in the picture but I'd say it's decently flavorful. The black pepper wasn't too overpowering, however, if you're wearing light colored clothes, you might be concerned that the sauce may flip up and stain your clothes.

The roast beef was very nice and the chef was very dangerous. Those whom like their steak really well done might have to skip the station

The drunken prawns must be quite popular because by the time I got there, there were only a few prawns left swimming in the pool. I guess it's nice to know that your prawns were alive before they were cooked, but you might want to turn away if you don't want to see the shrimp struggling. The soup it was served in had a herbal smell and everyone around me wanted a sip of it.

They had several choices of naan here. Between the garlic and the cheese naan, I'd say the cheese naan was pretty nicely done. They also have an assortment of dips you can choose--not a disappointing Naan & Curry station. Also, they had papadum!

The highlight of the dessert platter was macaroons. Quite nicely done. Not too sweet, and the flavors were there.

I'm not a fan of coconut ice cream, but the coconut and yuzu received the top votes in my party of 10.

We wanted something light so instead of the half soup and half sandwich/salad deal, decided to just have the soup alone. Even then, due to the thickness of the soup, it's really easy to feel full.

I ordered the Ginseng Chicken that was surprisingly thick and full of vegetables. I liked how that they didn't skimp on the ingredients, however, I had envisioned the Ginseng Chicken to be less thick. Also, they were really generous on the ginseng that was in the soup too! shocked

The cashier was really nice and got us to try another of their specialty but I only recalled that it was too salty. sad

Milk Tea OK Apr 19, 2012
Categories : Café | Juices

Decided to try Artease Cafe as my friend and I passed by the establishment as a treat after dinner.Ordered the Grass Jelly Milk Tea as well as Pudding Milk Tea, however, I feel like it was the wrong choice for both of us.

The drinks are quite pricey for each cup. And the Pudding in the milk tea was quite disappointing. It didn't quite give the satisfaction of the Pudding from the brand President (Tong Yi), instead it was rather mediocre.

The milk tea itself was decent: can taste the milk (which is good), but not enough essence of the tea.

Personally, I feel that if I was to be a customer at Artease again, I would choose one of their Anniversary Drinks, Speciality Drinks, or their Vinegar drinks. Will then proceed to judge whether their drinks are worth it after trying one of their drinks that is advertised and marketed.

less than $2.00 per plate Smile Dec 29, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

At $1.50 per plate (before GST), it's cheap comparable to other Japanese restaurants. After GST and service charge, it's less than $2 per plate.

I took pictures of 3 dishes I'd be back for. These selections disappear off the sushi train rather quickly as they're quite rare and I suppose their costs are higher.

unagi sushi roll. relatively thick pieces with rice
cafe

blueberry cheesecake that was sweet without being too creamy, nor too light. each bite was delightful.
miso soup

miso soup needs to be ordered and there were surprisingly thick pieces of salmon inside which makes it very worth it and unlike normal miso soup. The tea is refillable at the individual station you're sitting at.

meat and two sides Smile Dec 29, 2013
Categories : Food Court | Steaks and Grills

Love Aston's cause you basically you choose your main and then you customize your meal by choosing two sides. The great thing is that there are so many sides to choose from!

Steak, Onion Rings, and Wedges

Chicken, Mac & Cheese, House Veggies that are boiled and served with butter.
The chicken was cooked well and the mac & cheese is perfect. They paired well with the onion rings and potato wedges as well.

For less than $10, you can get a western meal with the sides that you prefer. The food is served hot as they hand you one of those sensors that vibrate after you pay and order. The food quality is worth the price that you pay for.

Recommended Dish(es):  Chicken, Mac & Cheese, House Veggies

Spending per head: Approximately $8(Lunch)
