Satay Beehoon Smile Dec 17, 2013

The plate was served warm and there I added an extra dollar for extra ingredients. Total was $6 or $7 dollars. There's usually a long line for the stall but I was lucky tongue

There were huge pieces of squid and plenty of liver pieces-all quite fresh (as I did not have an upset stomach)
The sauce was peanut sauce-like but without being too salty that you need to gulp anything down to wash the flavor down. Despite it being peanut-based, the food did not feel too heavy.

Taiwan Porridge OK Nov 28, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee

I wouldn't say that the small dishes are necessarily Taiwanese-style, but they are cooked on the spot. Hence, served hot.

All their dishes are quite small, hence it's easy to accidentally over-order, however, they are all quite salty and tasty so there is no need to order too much. For a family of 4, we ordered 6 dishes and a soup, and that was overkill. Their chai po omelet is not bad and pairs with the porridge really well. Another dish that is decent is their salted egg and bitter-gourd as it's not overly salty, but still tasty.

Salted fish and beansprouts
The dish is salty but the beansprouts are fresh and cooked just right

Be prepared to wait for your food though as this stall is really popular.
As you can see from the picture below, I had trouble even taking pictures before the food was touched because we were all so hungry.

For $5, this item is the most pricy item on the menu that is offered at this stall.
What drew me to the stall was the man who was pulling and making the noodles from scratch.
However, the disarray that the counter was in and how he had to go behind to make the soup did not make me feel that a lot of love and care was put into my bowl of noodles.

The bowl was served hot as the soup, I believe was heated up behind after inserting the beef strips (which didn't taste particularly fresh). The soup was very tasty, but halfway through the noodles, the sodium got to me and I couldn't have anymore. sad

Spending per head: Approximately $5(Dinner)

Matcha Mcflurry OK Nov 25, 2013

I realized that the NTU branch still had Matcha Mcflurry available and decided to try it. It really is just the original Oreo Mcflurry with Matcha powder dashed on top, however, it's cheaper than Haagen Dazs or other gourmet ice cream shops if you want to have green tea ice cream. The McDonalds at NTU is cheaper, but the queue and wait is a lot longer. They should consider having a line for refreshments and desserts only.

Frog Porridge OK Apr 09, 2013

Recommended by my friend who works in Chinatown, this Frog Porridge is along the main road so it's quite easy to spot. Coming out from the MRT at Chinatown, turn right and walk straight and you'll come across this eatery.

We ordered one Claypot Frog to share. It look a while for the food to come, but it come steaming hot! Be sure to order drinks while waiting or consider ordering a side-dish or two from other vendors.

The sauce looks dark in the picture but it's not overly salty. The pieces could have been more tender though, but it could be because the wait was long or because we were hungry, the dish was finished rather quickly!

Might want to go there early as the seats are taken up quickly.
