Dessert is a Must After meal Smile Apr 25, 2013

NYDC which is also know as New York Dessert Cafe serves all kinds of dessert and main courses as well. But we were there to try their specialty desserts.

Boo Boo ($6.80/per slice or $62/whole)
‘NYDC friends’ chocolate cake with piped swirls of light whipped cream’. I am a chocolate lover and i truly love this cake very much. It does not have the overdose of chocolate-y taste. I can taste the smoothness of the rich chocolate mousse and the sponge texture was just nicely done.

Goldmine Cheesecake ($7.20/per slice or $68/whole)
It’s Ally’s New York Cheesecake with chocolate chunks, slathered with irresistible chocolate fudge topping. The base of the cake is the solid oreo cookie. The smooth top of the chocolate fudge and the cheesy fumes made the overall combination a perfect dessert after the main course.

3-some mudpie ($11.80/per slice) It comes with three layers made up of chocolate chip dough ice cream, strawberry ice cream and strawberry cheesecake ice cream, sandwiching cookie crumbs and graham crackers. I would say it taste sweet with the combination of strawberry and chocolate but it would be a good choice to select when you are dropping by.

Jedi Mudster (mudpie) ($11.80/per slice).Double Chocolate Chip and Macadamia Nut ice cream on an Oreo base with homemade cookie chunks. The cake is complete with chocolate fudge and whipped cream.Awesome I would say and the person-in-charge was so nice to offer another slice of it when we whipped off the first slice. It wasn’t as sweet as the 3-some mudpie and if you are chocolate lover, you wouldn’t mind to have the second servings.

Anyway, NYDC is currently having a promotion where everyone gets to enjoy the desserts at the discounted rate.
You may want to check them out in their facebook page constantly for the update.

Chinese Cuisine Smile Apr 25, 2013

Categories : Shanghainese | Dim Sum

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant located at Level 2, Bugis Junction is well-established brand with it’s legacy of serving up the best award-winning “Xia Long Baos”. They offers 8 different flavors of ‘Xia Long Baos” and we got the chance to try the Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao.

Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao – $13.80 for 6pcs was served pipping hot to us! Totally awesome! The bun was filled with broth and the meat was lean. The skin thickness was just nice not too thick as one small bite you can immediately taste the broth.

Cold Dish- Nanxiang Drunken Chicken @ $8.50 was served in cold. The chicken meat was tender and smooth. We can see the shines within the chicken skin and meat.

Shanghai Spicy & Sour Soup $8.50. I had tried this before during my visit with my friend earlier. Truly taste delicious! However the taste is a bit spicy as I don’t take spicy foods. But the texture of the soup is not too starchy and you will enjoy sipping it over and over again.

It’s a must try dish in your list if you are dropping by. King Sized Nanxiang Crab Roe Steamed Soup Bun @ $7.80. This is simply rich soup filled with crab roe bites. Becareful it’s hot when you are sipping away with the straws. It’s like drinking a bowl of soup but you are drinking the soup from XL size bun instead.

We also had Braised Lion Head balls also known as 狮子头. It is recommended by the Director of Procurement himself during the food tasting. He also shared with us that this dish was designed to suit to Singaporean’s health conscious mind. They only use 20% fats unlike in China that uses 40% ingredients and 50% fats for the balls. The balls are crunchy as it contains chestnuts in the ingredient.

It was a wonderful moments with sharing session with the person-in-charge where he brought us back to history of the dishes. It would be ideal to have family or friends gathering here.

Categories : Italian | Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | Pasta

Platypus Test Kitchen first started out in 2010 by Nicholas Lin. He is such a young entrepreneur that has a concept to serve the dishes below S$20.00. He also shared with us that the menu illustration will be the same as what actual serving. Here is his restaurant philosophy ” We believe gourmet foods should be affordable”. It is shown in the menu as well.

Foods that we had on that day:-

Truffle Fries ($6.90). Thick-cut french fries seasoned with white truffle oil and topped with shaved truffles. Truly taste like heaven!Superb rich truffles with the fried made our appertizer grows bigger.

Crabcakes ($12.90) where it is served with large crab claw meat, served with lemon.

Risotto Balls ($8.90).Mozzarella stuffed balls of risotto, breaded in panko and deepfried, served over pumpkin puree. Loving the taste of the pumpkin puree and it mixed well with the risotto balls.

Squid Ink Tagiolini, Scallop Ragout ($15.50).The squid ink pasta is specially made not to stick to your teeth.

Squid Ink Tagiolini, Scallop Ragout ($15.50).The squid ink pasta is specially made not to stick to your teeth.

Saffron & Caviar Risotto ($19.90).Served with saffron infused risotto with char-grilled prawns and scallops. They are generous with the caviar portion that contribute to the perfection of risotto.

Spicy ‘Diablo’ Crab & Prawn ($18.50).Served with egg taglioni with prawns and crab claws tossed in spicy egg sauce. The fusion mixed creation with the generous size of the prawns really does attract me at the first sight. True enough the taste does not disappoint me as well.

Pressed Pork Belly ($19.90).Served with braised apples, carrots, tomatoes in honey & clove apple glaze. The sauce comes in a small jug and the staff will pour the sauce over the pressed pork belly when it is served. Overall taste sweet and the pork belly was chewy and firm.

Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience with good foods with affordable price. The interior design of the restaurant made us feel comfortable. The design of the comfortable bench seats and the layout of the overall restaurant is more of the modern living style which suits for occassion celebrations.

Platypus Kitchen is running 12 weeks promotion that desserts are served FOC when you dine in their main course. It was third week last week so be sure to pop by when you are shopping at Bugis Junction. They also offers monthly set promotions for both lunch (from $10.90++) and dinner (from $16.90++).

I had a food trail at Bugis Junction with few bloggers on a sunny Saturday. We went to 10 stops within the building and the first stop is with Everythingwithfries.

Let's see what we have that day:-
One Egg Soup ($6.90). A creamy soup with an artwork of fried egg-whites floating like a lotus leaf on a lake. The soup is made only with an egg. The soup taste is hearty and very appealing as appertizer.

Skinny Wings ($6.90). I always love to have wings and their version is skinnier version. The texture was crispy in the outer and tender in the inner.

Wild NZ King Salmon ($18.90) The serving portion was generous and the salmon was nicely done. The skin was crispy and the fish taste soft and smooth. Everyone loves this dish.

Char-grilled Beef Karubi ($21.90 ) Served with grilled boneless US prime beef shortrib, braised till tender and then char-grilled with truffle oil fries. The sauce blends well with the beef as the meat texture was quite soft and it goes well with the sauce. The chef really does put in effort for this dish.

Char-grilled Char Siew ($15.90 ). Served pork belly braised till tender and char-grilled with garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was special made by the chef to go well with the dish. The fries has the garlic taste as well. Loving the tenderness of the pork texture and it’s not too hard to cut.

Here comes the Tandoori Chicken Sandwich ($11.90).This is something interesting as the sandwich is done with char-flamed wholw chicken leg and own marinated tandoori . They tasted quite good with the slices of onions inside as well as with the curry fries.

Steak & Tulang @ S$25.80.The presentation attracts me especially the beef colours. The beef was medium rare done. I able to taste the sweetness and the juicyness of the beef. As for the marrow, it was well served with a nice tempting look for me.

We didn’t have time to have tried out the desserts as we need to rush to the second stop. It’s quite a pity as I read the reviews from the website stating that they served very good Nutella Tart. I would love to give it a try when i have the chance to drop by. It’s a nice place for friends gathering as the price was decent with the portion served.

Dinner on Sunday Smile Apr 10, 2013
Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

My first visit to Paradise Dynasty was the one located at ION Orchard. My friend and I decided to meet up on one of the Sundays for a meal. So I headed to her place on Sunday afternoon and we headed for dinner at Causeway Point. FH’s mum and daughter tagged along and her mum wanted to have chinese cuisine for dinner. So we decided to dine in here. Surprisingly there is no queue when we got to the outlet around 6pm. We were served by the staff and being placed at an outdoor seating which we can watch the passer-by.

Each table was served with menu and also the order list. We will have to tick our order on the form and called for the staff once we are done. The staff will repeat the order before proceeding the order to the kitchen. The serving time was less than 15 minutes which was quite fast. Thumbs up for the service at Causeway Point outlet.

I ordered Sliced Pork La Mian with pork bone soup @ S$9.80. The thickness of the sliced pork was very thin. It enhances the sweetness of the soup base as well. Loving the texture of the La Mian and it was Q.

She ordered La Mian with vegetable pork dumpling in signature pork bone soup @ S$8.80. The vegetable pork dumpling was big as the menu illustration. The dumpling’s topping was filling with the minced vegetable & pork. Taste delicious to go with the pork bone soup.

My friend’s mum decided to go for La Mian stir fried with shredded black fungus and minced pork @ S$10.80. The presentation was appealing and based on FH’s mum comment is that the taste was not bad.

We also ordered ala carte- Shanghai Pork Bun @S$4.20.
The outer texture of the bun was soft and tender. As for the filling, it was just ok for us. Nothing special for me though.

We also tried the Souffle Egg White Balls stuffed with Red bean and banana @S$4.80. It comes in 3 pcs at the rate. I personally think it is filling if you already had bun and La Mian before hand. The souffle ball was soft and tender and you can immediately taste the red bean and banana on your first bite.

Overall dinner was pleasant with the prompt services from the staffs and decent food presentation and tastebud.
