Fish Head Otah anyone? OK Jul 01, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

After wolfing down my bean curd i was still hungry and decided to get some otah from the Hougang Otah stall where a lonesome uncle stood.
I looked at the variety and was quite surprised, there was squid, prawn and carbmeat otah apart from the usual fish utah.
As i stared at the variety, the uncle recommended me to try the FIsh Head utah, wow Ive never seen one before so I decided to take a couple of itsmile
70cents each

Now I had no idea what to expect from it but the minute you peeled off the leaf, a wonderful aroma greeted you along with a plump looking otah!
As i bit into it, i felt parts of the fish head which you couldn't eat buried in them. I started pulling out bony bits from ittongue

It definitely tasted good but there was a lot of pulling and sucking on the bony bits involved. So if ure ready to get your hands dirty and you love fish head, its definitely worth a try but do be carefultongue

Silky smooth beancurd Smile Jul 01, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

I have always heard of the bean curd war at Old Airport Rd hawker centre, and since I was there this morning for my breakfast, I decided to try out one of the many Beancurd stalls. How I made my choice was simple, i based it on the nearest stall at where I was seatedtongue

So 51 was the nearest, I decided to give it a shot and this is my FIRST time trying one there - well I must say the moment I placed my plastic spoon into the bean curd to get a scoop it sliced through the bean curd unlike any other bean curd Ive eaten before. The consistency of was silky and slightly powdery toosmile

For $1.50 the chilled almond bean curd was a welcoming treat during this hot weathersmile
I thoroughly enjoyed it and would come back to try the other fanciful flavors like mango and strawberry bean curd soon I hopetongue

All students hear ye hear ye!
Dominos has a special promotion for students only! Personal size pizza@$3.50!
lol
Many of my students (around 5-7) visit Dominos to have Pizza during lunch breaks and I am amazed at their speed and accuracy in ensuring that each of them receives their pizzas in less than 15mins and without getting their pizzas mixed up..Wonderful!
Now they are giving away a booklet of Batman stickers for the upcoming Batman movie when you purchase a pizza.
That certainly made their day todaysmile

Thank you Dominos!

Those of us who do not fall into that category, don't worry, u can have a lunch meal for only $5 - a personal pan and a can of drinksmile

You have got to try the Lunch Set meals at $8.70 nett - Soup of the day, Garlic Bread, Main Course (about 5 options of chicken or fish) and a drink (coffee or tea). Oh yes, the main course comes with 2 side dishes too!

I walked in around 1245pm and the place was almost full, i had only an hour for my lunch break and was quite hesitant looking at the crowd but my colleague told me not to worry that our lunch will come in a hurry. True enough, less than 5 minutes after placing our order, our soup & bread & drink arrivedsmile

Even before i could finish my soup (minestrone) my main course of pepper chicken arrived along with 2 side dishes of fries and vegetables- Yummy!
I was impressed by the efficient service and good food, it was the purrfect place for someone who has limited time during lunch breaks to get a proper and tummy-licious mealsmile

The staff always had a smile and did not look frazzled at all with the crowd - they definitely have a formula on how to tackle the lunch crowdssmile
I am definitely going over for lunch again very very very soon!

P.S: Students get the Lunch Set Meals cheaper! What are you all waiting for?!

This evening, my husband and I visited the EastPoint outlet around 750pm.
My food was served around 15-20mins later BUT my husband's meal of "smoked duck" took ANOTHER 20mins to arrive and it was Semi-Cold!
He did not bother to send it back to the kitchen for fear that it would take another 20mins to arrive.

What was even more disturbing was that, just across us, was a group of 4 men who had waited more than 10mins for someone to take their order, thus, they pressed the bell once. NO STAFF turned up so they pressed again. What was shocking was that, one of the staff who had been busy taking orders for a big family nearby walked over to them and told them to press the bell only once and she just walked off without taking their order!

The 4 men were shocked, and waited a while longer and still no one took their order, if it was me, I would have walked out of there!
They pressed the bell a FEW more times and were totally ignored by all the staff! This was in full view of other customers.
Finally when one of the waitresses walked over to serve food to a nearby table, they called her over and then only did she take their order.

I understand that it was a very busy night but the very least is to serve the customers with some respect. What is the point of having the bell system if you are not going to bother to come over to the table at all?!?
