Ice cream OK Aug 12, 2012

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

That day while I was along Upper Thomson Road, I decided to try out the ice cream at Scoopz since the weather was
rather hot. I ordered 2 medium scoops of ice cream for $3.90 and the serving size was pathetic. I was quite disgusted
when I started looking for a place to sit and realised that the place was full, except for a few tables that was not cleared.
(I had no choice but to sit at the table with 2 empty cups.) The two flavours I had were chocolate ganache and durian.
Both were supposingly strong flavours but I did not find them fantastic at all. I wanted to enjoy the melting-point of the
ice cream as they would melt slowly, coating its surface with cool liquid instead of poking into solid hard ice cream. I was
quite disappointed as the ice cream was against me and purposely did not want to melt readily. I felt like I was a teacher
forcing a student to read a passage from the textbook when they did not want to (when I started to smash the ice cream).

The tiramisu costs $5.50 and it comes in a plastic cup with some texts on it. A typical kind with layers of sponge and
mousse and a lump of 'macaroon' shell as decoration. Not really impressive anyway.
This slice of hazelnut cake costs $4.20 and I did not like it one bit. The base was made up of 3 mini swiss rolls which was
quite hard, with cream and cocoa coated the top surface. (I forgot to remove the plastic around it!)
As for the cheese cakes, they cost $2.20 each and they were in a sweet-looking package. I found the size just right as it was easy to eat in this stick form. It was surely meant to be an easy biteable andconvenient snack. Although the cheese taste was quite subtle, the texture was smooth. It went well with the biscuit-like base which was munchy and gave a nice crisp snap when I bite into it.

Sizzler OK Aug 10, 2012

Complimentary bread, one slice per person and my friends agreed that they tasted great. After our multiple servings of the salad bar, which included soups, salad, pasta, noodles, etc, we had yogurt ice cream (frozen yogurt). I attempted to create a tall ice cream like those found in Taiwan. Failed tower! I found the frozen yogurt rather nice as they have a tingling bit of sourness. I decided to have another tall serving of it, this time the chocolate flavour with watermelon cubes as 'toppings'.
Of course each of us had the main course! ... It was just average......

We decided to share this platter of Tako Skewer & Mentaiko Hotate. Just nice they came in fours and each of us got to
have one and enjoy without having a headache of splitting the food into parts. The sotongs were average and a little
unfresh. The sauce was quite diluted as it was almost as if there were no sauce. As for the scallops, the outer was
slightly crisp, with grainy texture. It was not creamy as I have expected it to be.
Wcy had the Crispy Oyster & Shimeji Spaghetti. I did not exactly try the oyster as I totally dislike it (I did try the crispy
batter). I think it was the batter that made the oysters looked plump.
Wll tried the Mentaiko Spaghetti with Salmon Tataki, which I have tried before. The egg with its bright orange centred
looked as tempting as ever. As a fan of salmon, I could not take my eyes off the smooth pinky flesh with spices lined
along the top of the slices. Anyway, the sauce had more of the seafood taste as compared to the previous pasta above.
Another pasta dish which Lks had ordered, recommended by Wll. It was Seafood Aglio Olio, dry but flaring hot (I think
to me only?). Scallops and prawns was all it had.
As for me, I had Beef Steak on Crispy Puff Pastry. The beef was almost well done when I requested medium rare. Luckily
it was not stiff but still tender or I would surely complain about it. I felt that the beef and puff pastry made a really
strange combination and I ate them separately. (Why the sauce made my beef looked so reflective??) The chunks of
potatoes tasted not to bad and I ate the salad without the sauce.

Anyway, Ocf decided to order this glass of cocktail. The neon pink colour of it was rather attractive but unfortunately, it
was drink that was not drank at all. He accidentally toppled the cup over and generously fed the floor the full cup. What
a waste due to 'shackness'!
As for me, I added $5 to my meal to have this dessert. It was one of the chef's choice of chocolate ice cream with milk tea. A friend of mine saw this picture and he asked me why they served melted ice cream! (So much liquid at the base) I just laughed! The ice cream felt rather icy and the dessert tasted just like a normal 'ice cream milk tea'. After a while,
my so-called ice and cream effect took place. The ice cream started sticking themselves onto the ice and made my enjoyment level dropped. I also disliked the almonds and chocolate chips that were added as toppings. (Extra things does not always meant a plus point!)
