Food's not super authentic or fantastic but at least it's cheap and fast.

We had:

1) Kanom Pang Na Kung ($6.90) minced prawn paste on crispy toast served with sweet Thai chili sauce. I liked this. The prawn mince was flavourful and possessed a chunky and somewhat chewy texture, which balanced out the crisp of the base toast

2) Kung Kamkram Phat Mee Phuket ($14.90) Phuket-style Thai bee hoon with Thai river prawn, available only on the promotional menu, super letdown. The noodles were limpid and the prawns were mushy and overcooked

3) Poo Phat Pong Kari ($10.90) of curried soft shell crab with eggs fared better. The gravy was luxuriously creamy, eggy and richly spicy.

Han's is one place I'd go to for a cheap and quick homestyled lunch, in comfortable air-conditioned surroundings. Although the quality of their Hainanese mainstays and localised versions of pastas and western soups has dropped over the years, but at least the prices commiserate with the quality of the food. Come to think of it, the quality of their food is probably what a relatively competent secondary school home economics student is able to whip up in the kitchen. Their All Day Set Meal, of a main with a soup of the day, dessert and drink is quite value-for-money and makes for a substantial meal, even if some of it tasted straight out of a can.

We had:

1) Grilled Fish Dory ($9.80) - simple, no-fuss, and fresh, but the fish was a little tasteless. A more liberal sprinkling of salt would have done the fish more justice

2) Spaghetti with Sausage ($12.80) - really just a localised noodle dish using Italian pasta, processed hotdog chunks and tomato sauce

3) Cream of Mushroom - yucky, it tasted straight out of a Campbell's can, except that it was extremely watered down, with just a light peppering of sliced champignons

For more reviews, please see http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com/2011/03/marmalade-pantry-ion-orchard.html

The Marmalade Pantry oozes a sophisticated, grown-up vibe. The somewhat heavy foot traffic also ensures a steady stream of shoppers for diners to indulge in people-watching. While the food was alright and not too bad, I don't get why people fuss about this place so much. It certainly doesn't have that "wow" factor.

We had:

1) Grain Fed Beef Cheek Guiness Pie ($26) - with celeriac puree and a side serving of mesclun salad lightly dressed with olive and pepper. Robust and hearty

2) Truffled Field Mushroom Risotto ($22) - al dente bite yet soft and creamy. Parts of this were a tad too salty though. Otherwise, the variety of mushrooms lent texture to the dish. This wasn't the best I've had, but it was substantial and had a rustic appeal

3) Desserts here are a must-try. The Nutella ($4.20)- a moist chocolate cupcake with Nutella frosting super sinfully rich and sweet

This is one of the cheapest places to dine at along the burnished stretch of Orchard Road. We usually have a relatively good cze char meal here, but it was unfortunate that on this one occasion we ate here, the food turned out below par. Most of the dishes weren't fresh. In fact, they tasted rancid, which was just unforgivable.

We had:

1) Claypot Beancurd ($10) - so not worth the price. Apart from the vegetables and mushrooms, the beancurd pieces tasted rancid. Even the oyster sauce gravy wasn't enough to mask the staleness of the beancurd

2) Onion Omelette ($5) - the only dish that was passable. Sweet browned onions cut through the slight saltiness of the egg

3) Ipoh Mushroom Kway Teow ($5) - just awful, the prawns were mushy, char siew tasted artificial and rubbery, mushrooms were spongy and sourish and the gravy was overtly starchy

Categories : Korean | Korean BBQ

Please see http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.com/2011/01/hansang-korean-family-restaurant-novena.html for the full review with photos

One part of the restaurant is reserved for those having Korean BBQ and the other part is solely for diners not having the Korean BBQ. This separateness is great because you don't walk out smelling of bulgogi

We had:

1) Samgye-Tang ($23) Ginseng Chicken Soup - really really delicious. The soup was delicate and clear, with the delectable earthy aftertaste of Korean ginseng root. Red dates sweetened the soup base lightly, while gingko nuts lent a luxe touch

2) Side Dishes were all yummy. My favourite Poached Spinach was simply flavoured with sesame seeds and soy

3) Pickled Radish - although looks super red, was really not spicy at all. A little paprika as sprinkled for sweetness on the crunchy chilled radish cubes

4) Beansprouts - clear and refreshing

5) Lotus Root - well braised, flavoursome and crunchy, served chilled for a refreshing touch
