Curry chicken & barley.  Cry Aug 27, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

I had the curry chicken set which comes with a drink and a bowl of rice as well. I was quite shocked by the very little amount of rice that they gave for one person, it's about 2/3 of what usually a bowl or rice amounts to. For the drink, I had barley, which tasted really really bland. Not only it's diluted, but there's no taste of sugar as well. I had to ask for sugar (no extra charge) and add it inside else I can't even drink at all. don't recommend you to order the barley.

As for the curry chicken, it's quite disappointing as well. It does not taste as good as how the picture looks like, the curry was not thick at all! In fact it's quite watery sad and there was only one drumstick and one piece of potato shocked maybe that's why they gave so little rice, to complement the one drumstick and one potato.

I think it's better to order their toasts next time.

Ya kun toast Cry Aug 25, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

Got the normal kaya-butter toast set for $4.60, which is actually pricier than going to coffeeshops or food courts to have some toast, eggs and coffee. Perhaps what sets them apart is that they give 2 slices of bread as compared to cheaper ones. I had hot milk tea together with my toasts and eggs.

One thing that I didn't like was that my eggs were already cracked, and this leaves me to start to eat the soft boiled eggs first, rather than the toasts first, else the eggs will turn cold and it will not be nice anymore. It will be much better if I had the option to crack the eggs myself. So I had the toasts after that, and they went cold already. Furthermore, some parts of the bread were burnt sad and it didn't taste really good. The toasted bread was quite hard and not crunchy at all. The milk tea was okay, just that it's abit sweet.

My not so good breakfast Cry Aug 19, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Fast Food | Noodles

Was staying over at one of the RWS hotel and saw that Ruyi had breakfast sets so we went there for breakfast! The breakfast menu had Fish/Chicken Porridge and fried rice and they come with a cup of coffee/tea for $5.50! Their non-breakfast menu is also available in the morning as well. Service was quite efficient, we got the our food immediately after ordering!

I bought the chicken porridge to share with my friend. Personally I didn't like the porridge. It's quite grainy and not the smoother and silkier kind of porridge that I anticipated. It's also quite salty even without soy sauce. Furthermore the chicken taste like it's leftover from the night before because the meat is quite hard. In the end, my friend and I didn't even finish it even though it's not a very big bowl. The tea came in quite a small paper cup. It would be better if it's refillable. Overall, I think for $5.50, it's not worth it for breakfast.

Gong Cha Coffee Milk Tea Cry Jul 24, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

Went there not long after the opening and just my luck, there was a really long queue at gong cha and they were understaffed as there's only one person taking orders and another one more making the drinks. I waited close to 25mins from queueing till getting my drink.

I ordered the $4.10 gong cha milk coffee to try, because it has a recommended sign there. But it tasted really normal, nothing extraordinary or to rave about. And I think it's too expensive, it tasted just like coffee milk tea and the price of other milk teas were just in the range of $2+ to $3+.

Fisherman's Basket Cry Jul 14, 2013
Categories : Fusion | Restaurant

Having been to USS a lot of times but I've never been here to try the food! But the fast food at USS is mostly the same in every fast food outlet, just that the theme and interior of the place is different. Friar's had the interior of a castle but it's not very big, probably can seat around 50 people?

Thankfully there wasn't much people when we got there, other fast food places were already full. We ordered the fisherman basket for $13.90 to share between us. It consists of fries, fried calamari, fried prawns and fried fish. The fish wasn't nice at all and the rest was just so-so only. We had to dip in more mayonnaise and chilli for extra taste! For $13.90, I think it's not worth it, there are definitely better options at USS to choose from and moreover, it's not even a set meal, I had to pay extra $3.80 to get another drink. sad
