Ban mian! Smile Jul 24, 2013

I love the Ban Mian here! Especially the dry one, because it is stirred fried instead of just pouring black sauce over it like other dry ban mian.

The ban mian here costs $3 and the dry one costs $3.50. Both are equally good but I still prefer to have the dry one as you can't get it at a lot of places. The portion is quite big for $3.50 and I really like the generous amount of the vegetables! The ikan bilis were also very crunchy and big! However, the minced meat can be cooked longer for a better taste. You can change ban mian to you mian noodles if you prefer noodles that are thinner, but for the verdict, I prefer the ban mian noodles for the dry one!

Steamboat! Smile Jul 23, 2013

We went to JPOT again even though my friends and I didn't have a very good experience at the vivo outlet. Well, groupon had an offer for JPOT, $59 for $100 worth! It’s a really good deal!

This time round, we ordered ALA-CARTE instead of the set. It was definitely a better choice. We paid around $34.50 (without groupon) and we were so full! Anyway service over at Tamp 1 was so much better that I can’t find any word to emphasize that. Overall ambience was much better too, service much more efficient as well because every table uses the iPad to order which is really much quicker. The iPad is hidden in a drawer like place so you won’t find it on the table the moment you sit down. And everyone has their own pot for the steamboat!

We also ordered the free flow drink for $3.80! The waiter came by with an empty cup, meaning it doesn’t matter if you pick barley or coke in the ordering form, because all of the soft drinks plus barley and Longan Luo Han are all $3.80 and free flow and you can drink any of the free flow drinks! The Longan Luo Han was really good! So refreshing and it’s free flow.

There's also a sauce station where you can make your own sauce! You can either follow the recipes that's at the sauce station, or just make your own. It's quite fun to follow the recipe though!

Some of my personal opinions on the food / ala-carte there;
-Soups: 3 Jpot superior broths and 1 bak kut teh ($5.80 each, refillable)
The bak kut the one tastes somewhat like the superior broth, but more peppery
- Live Prawn ($9.5)
The prawns are not alive and kicking, I guess live prawns just meant that they sedate them before it’s sent to you.
- Toman sliced fish ($7.80)
It was so good we ordered 2 plates of it. It’s the only sliced fish on the menu anyway.
- Mushrooms ($12.80)
It is a basket of assorted mushrooms. We wanted individual but after doing some mental calculations, the basket one was more worth it.
- Spinach beancurd ($4) is a fried item, for very subjective palattes.

What we ordered as well: Chicken cheese balls ($5), Marinated Chicken ($4.5) comes with a quail egg, Marinated Pork ($4.5) comes with a quail egg, Kurobuta Pork ($9.80), Prawn balls ($5.8) presented on the long tray in the picture below, Sliced sotong ($4.80), Pho ($2) and a bowl of rice ($0.80).

Almost everything we ordered seems to be nice. We wanted to order this meat but it was OOS. The recomended dishes seems good as well!

Overall, we thought that the experience at Jpot Tampines 1 was definitely much better than the one we had a vivo, be it food, ambience and service.

Spending per head: Approximately $35(Dinner)

Caramel Macchiato Smile Jul 23, 2013

While waiting for my friend at Tampines, I ordered a cup of hot Caramel Mmacchiato ($6.30) at Sstarbucks to chill and study. What I noticed while sipping my coffee was that the queue at the Tampines outlet is never ending! There's always a long queue, especially during noon time. I queued for 15 mins to get my coffee!

Caramel Macchiato is already a sweet coffee on its own due to the caramel, so be sure to mix it well. I didn't add any sugar but topped it with some chocolate powder instead for an extra taste!

Thai for dinner Smile Jul 14, 2013
Categories : Thai | Restaurant

Having heard many good reviews and walking past there everytime I'm in vivo, I finally had the chance to try Thai Accent! We went in at around 5pm and managed to get a good window seats overlooking out to Sentosa!

The menu was really full of words, no pictures, but it was neatly categorised. We took quite a while to take in what they have and zoomed in on the ones with recommended signs. The plain water is free, so thumbs up for that because we ordered the spicy tom yum.

But one of my friends decided to go with a Thai Iced Tea ($6). We didn’t order as we wanted to see how the drink turned out. $6 is pricey for a normal Thai Iced Tea but I feel that the one at Thai Accent is worth the penny. Usually Thai Iced Teas will turned out to be sickly-sweet and leaves an aftertaste that is similar to pure condensed milk. But Thai Accent’s one is really good. It’s not too sweet, just nice. Remember to mix it really well!

Pineapple Rice was one of the recommended dishes, and honestly, how wrong can you go with the yellow rice! We got Pineapple Rice with Prawns ($11.90). The portion of the dish was well accepted for its price and it’s also very nice.

We ordered a Phad Thai with Prawns ($13.90) and it’s also one of the recommended dishes. But it’s a pity we left it out for too long (maybe 15 mins after it came) and the noodles started to stick together, making it very hard to mix. If you don't like your phad thai to be spicy, just don't mix it with the chilli powder! Again, for the price tag, I would say this is a good dish to order, the portion was really big!

We ordered a pot of Red Tom Yum Soup ($23.90) too! When eating thai food, tom yum cannot be left out! Red Tom Yum Soup was priced at $9.90/bowl and there were 4 of us so it was more worth it to take the pot. The pot one is enough for 5 persons' share. If you enjoy eating tom yum with just white rice, and your partner enjoys it as well, take the pot one! It’s quite shiok! Having tried the red and white version of tom yum before, the white one is more spicy although it looks less spicy. If you’ve tried both, you will know the difference. I personally still prefer my tom yum to be the red one! Anyway back to thai accent’s tom yum, it’s quite good. They have prawns, fish, mushrooms etc. We shared a bowl of rice between us for the tom yum! This is definitely one of the better tom yum I've tasted.

And lastly, we saved some stomach space for the Red Ruby ($4.90) that my friends said it’s supposedly to be nice. I thought it to be a bigger portion but unfortunately, it was quite a small portion and nothing much to rave about this dessert. It's mostly full of ice anyway.

When we left around 1 hour later at 6pm, the place was already packed. So do come earlier to enjoy good food (to avoid queuing also). Overall, we paid $73 for all the dishes, which I think it’s still pretty okay considering the fact that we had quality food (except for the red ruby), good view, and good service from the staff! It’s a mystery how I never went in despite walking past countless times and already knowing that it’s good.

Molten lava cake Smile Jun 24, 2013
Categories : American | Coffee

Headed there for tea with my friend after walking around clementi mall! We ordered a venti sized white chocolate mocha drink and a molten lava cake. The lava cake was really rich in chocolate and the molten chocolate oozes out when you cut the cake in the middle. It made me so full after that, together with the white chocolate mocha. The coffee was really good too and I never fail to order the warm one whenever I come to starbucks! Service was rather efficient even though the queue was quite long and the baristas were all very friendly!
