healthy soups Smile Jul 29, 2013

Was deciding where to have dinner when we walked past soup broth asia and they had a couple set at $20.90 with 2 soups, 1 meat, 1 veg, 2 bowls of rice and one complimentary lemongrass dessert.

The soup portion was huge!!!! Giant glass bowl, probably 1.5 times of the hawker kind. But the soups were a tad too thick and sweet. I had snow pear with pork ribs and my sister had 10 treasures. 10 treasures is probably the healthier choice because it has no meat inside and it has mushrooms, lotus roots and alot more!! I saw some people having the cabbage one which didn’t look too bad. And yes you can choose any soup from the menu!! So it was really worth it. We had ginger sliced fish for our meat dish instead of chicken. Overall, it was quite affordable, I wouldn’t say the food is fantastic but also because there weren’t too many people at about 6pm. Anyway I doubt the flavour of the soup is thick because of MSG because we saw that it’s a MSG free kitchen. The soup tasted sweet probably because of the ingredients, like corn, carrots, pears, orange skin. So it’s like fruits in your soup! The lemongrass dessert was really refreshing after the thick soup.

Jpot steamboat OK Jul 29, 2013

Categories : Steamboat/Hot Pot

Actually I haven’t heard much about Jpot except from my friends, I didn’t even know it’s so highly raved. We didn’t make reservations (we reached at about 6.30pm) and made reservations on the spot. The person told us to come back half an hour later to see if there’s a table, else you walk around first and they will call! But anyway I suggest to make reservations because it’s quite popular.

Anw we managed to get a table at around 7.30pm, not too bad right!! We ordered the set for 4 persons at 96++, there's another premium set which was around 100+ for 4 persons as well, but for more items. But we went for the cheaper one, and was so disappointed with the amount of food in the set that's barely enough to fill our stomachs. It just looks like a lot because there's more vegetables than me.

I suggest to order ala carte, you get to choose what you like! I highly recommend the marinated meats! As for the broths, we had the JPOT superior broths, the porridge one and herbal one. I recommend the JPOT superior broth! It's great! The quality of the food was actually quite good, just don't order the set because it's not more worth it.

Another aspect of JPOT is that we can mix our own sauce! There's recipes on the sauce area where you can follow, else you can just mix whatever you want!

PHO! Smile Jul 29, 2013

Had dinner at food village because it was still early and there's no crowd yet. As I wanted to try some Vietnamese food, I ordered a bowl of pho with beef slices and beef balls ($7.50)! I like the soup as it is rich in flavour, yet light and it really whets my appetite a lot. The lime given adds some sour-ness to it, making it a very refreshing! Noodles are soft and chewy, the beef slices were cut thinly. I also love the beansprouts which were raw because they're so crunchy. Also got Vietnamese spring rolls and it tasted delicious even though I'm not a huge fan of raw carrots! Remember to dip with peanut sauce smile

Steamboat at bugis OK Jul 28, 2013

Along liang seah street there are countless steamboat places but since my friend came to this outlet before, we decided to give it a go. There's not much soups to choose from as they're all spicy (kimchi, laksa, tom yum etc) and the one and only non-spicy one was the herbal one.

We choose tom yum and the herbal soups for both our soups. I personally find the taste of the soups rather weird. The variety of food is not much, just the normal and cheap ones. There's salmon as well but there's lots of bone in it. Surprisingly, the cooked food was not too bad.

But for $23, I think I can get better and quality food elsewhere. The place was quite cramp inside but there's seats outside though.

Tiramisu Smile Jul 28, 2013

Bakerzin for desserts after dinner! No photog allowed for the display of cakes though. We got a tiramisu cake ($6.50) and Blackforest Cheesecake ($6.50). The tiramisu is the bomb!! Blackforest Cheesecake didn’t do too badly, the first few mouthfuls were great but cheesecake being cheesecake, we got sick of it after too many mouthfuls. So I think it’s good to share. But the tiramisu was so nice I think anyone can polish it off. Bakerzin has very awesome desserts in my opinion and has never let me down before and I think it’s really a good place to catch up with all your friends! Good to give it a try! smile Note that plain water is not FOC!
