http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/08/16/afternoon-tea-at-the-lobby-sheraton-towers/

Since Sheraton Towers Hotel’s Lobby Bar was having a 1 for 1 promotion for afternoon tea, I dropped by with K to give it a try.The Lobby Bar serves English Afternoon tea for $33++ per pax and Japanese Afternoon Tea for $39++ per pax. We paid about only about $19 each; very happy with the bargain!

The ambience was cosy and quiet, with ample space between each table for privacy, making it a perfect place to engage in long catch up sessions with girlfriends. Quality and variety of the food was satisfactory, for the amount we paid. The Manager provided good service; but the others were oblivious to customers waving for their attention.

As the portion of the afternoon tea set is quite filling, I suggest having a very light lunch before visiting. K was struggling to finish up her share of food.

http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/centre-ps/

My MIL introduced me to Centre PS while I was scouting around for places to make my ROM cake. Her friend, who is(or maybe was) a food journalist from a local newspaper is a great fan and loyal customer of Pattisier Chef Steven Ong.

Centre PS, pronounced phonetically as Centre Piece (it took me ages to get this right, I kept saying P S) was started in 2007. Chef Steven Ong has an impressive resume; he has experience in leading pastry kitchens in Conrad Centennial and Intercontinental hotel, as well as representing Singapore in numerous regional and international pastry competitions.

Virginia was extremely helpful and patient while assisting with the process of choosing my ROM cake. Thumbs up for her personalized service!

Centre PS’s éclairs are to die for! They have set my benchmark for éclairs. Being extremely popular, they just fly off the shelves; I suggest calling 1 day in advance to place a reservation for these babies. All 3 flavors, namely chocolate, coffee and lemon were heavenly. In addition, they are rather dense, which means you are paying for solid stuff, not air.

Pisa cake: Pistachio biscuit layers with raspberry compote and vanilla bean bavaroise. I can never have enough of this. Sometimes I crave for heavy and rich cakes, but get sick of them after a few mouthfuls. Other times I fancy light and delicate cakes, but yet I don’t feel satisfied after finishing them. Pisa cake encompasses the best of both textures; not too heavy yet not too light with perfect amount of moisture and flavor to delight the most fussy tongues.

The patisserie offers customization for weddings, baby first month, cooperate functions etc etc.

I favor mini cakes over cupcakes as I find cupcakes less formal, more suitable for engagement parties. You can choose designs from a catalogue or sketch your own design.

To add a touch of glam to the garden ceremony, I chose 2 tier mini cakes. My apologies for the poorly taken picture; the actual colour of the cake is purple. Centre PS has a long list of pound cake flavors; I selected lemon, vanilla with chocolate chips and green tea.

Yan Ting, located on the second level of St Regis Hotel, is well known for serving the best dim sum in Singapore. The award winning establishment is one of the more authentic Cantonese restaurants providing diners with top notch fine dining experience. This is the to visit if you are looking to impress, or to savor dim sum delicacies.

Yan Ting’s divine dim sum and exquisite dishes were mind-blowing; we thoroughly enjoyed the food as well as the grandeur ambience.

Yan ting has ceased serving shark fin soup since July 2012 and replaced it with double boiled abalone with chicken soup.

http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/08/04/mortons-the-steakhouse-lovely-surprise/

Mortons a steakhouse from Chicago, is located at Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

The lighting was very dim, making it difficult for photos

A waitress came up our table with a trolley of props and started to give a presentation of the food served and the meats used. She was talking like a machine gun, I had no idea what she was saying. After she completed the presentation, she passed the menus to us.

Dear love the steaks here; he thinks they are exceptional. I mentioned before I love Caesar salads, crabs and chocolate molten cakes, hence Dear brought me here to surprise me.

Complimentary Onion loaf was massive and so yummy that I kept eating it, Dear had to stop me to save stomach space for the good stuff coming up shortly.

We had:

Caesar salad was excellent. I would love to have this again the next time I visit

Steak; huge serving of juicy , succulent and tender meat, cooked to perfection.

My Alaskan king crab. I was amazed at the size of the jumbo crab legs, Dear should only have ordered 2, I was stuffed after the mains. There was melted butter and olive oil to accompany the meat but I preferred Chinese ways of cooking crab. *Thinks about Melben’s*

Morton’s legendary chocolate lava cake.

http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/08/04/cafe-oliv/

If you are looking for affordable and delicious western food, Café Oliv at 220 East Coast Road fits the bill! The prices are very reasonable; taste and quality of food is delightful. The only problem is finding a car park. Dear and I went on a Sunday for lunch and spent 20 min looking for somewhere to park the car; we landed up parking about 7 min walk away from the café.

Décor and service was average but the main thing we came here for was to try the food, which had great reviews on a couple of food blogs I visited.

We had:

Salted egg calamari. I like anything that has salted egg in it, wish the calamari could have a more “qq” texture though….

Garlic Pesto aglio olio spaghetti with scallops. The pasta was well flavored, scallops were huge and fresh.

Dory fish with salted egg chilli aglio olio spaghetti. This was the first time I came across pasta with salted egg, ordered it because it sounds interesting. It was very yummy too!

Verdict: Great food with inexpensive price tags but we are not keen on returning because of the headache we experienced trying to get a carpark.
