This was at the end of Smith Street on the second floor.
I wouldn't have stumbled on this place except on a friend's recommendation.
It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and the sweltering heat outside was just forcing us indoors.

I decided to get myself a fish and chips.
The batter was well, oily. But in spite of that, it was a nice crisp shell with creamy dory fillet encased within. The wedges were thick cut and addictive but only good when hot.

while he got the house burger. done medium. the caramelized onions were yum! but because the patty was well done instead of what we wanted, it was a little dry. The patty was thick though and I could taste the meat juices. The bun was nicely toasted. Soft on the inside. Perfect with melty cheese.

and i happened to drop my knife midway into my meal. I was all prepared to continue eating without the help of a knife but in just moments, the attentive waitress brought me a replacement. boy, was i impressed!

For a man with heart.

This is a post for him.

Celebrating 30th years of Plum Village, he decides to give back to society in his own way. By serving up Hakka delicacies for an all-you-can-eat buffet from Friday- Sunday (27/9-29/9) at ticket prices of $30. All proceeds go to Red Cross Society.

And this was a feast for both the eyes and the tummy. He had such a wide variety of Hakka foods on offer and at almost 8pm, I could still see them topping up some dishes and the soup just to make sure everyone gets their food piping hot.

The white noodles were fried with minced meat. Although seemingly colourless, it was high on the taste factor. I'm assuming there was oyster sauce and soy sauce in this.

The fried abacus seeds were a little cold when i had them but otherwise savoury. The double boiled chicken soup looked nondescript but tasted absolutely delicious. I had thirds on this.

Ginseng for the soul Smile Sep 29, 2013   (Related Review)

This was ginseng chicken soup for the soul. I came here drenched on a rainy afternoon with my dad looking for some soup to warm ourselves...
and I guess it didn't take long for us to decide on this.

for $25 we got ourselves a bubbling pot of goodness.

there was a lot of chicken in this. But i guess that would be just about right for the price.

it came with wolfberries and red dates and it didn't have a strong taste of ginseng. just a hint of it.

we also grabbed a plate of mee sua and some mushrooms and beancurd sheets to boil in the soup.

feel free to ask for soup refills.

where is this place? Smile Sep 29, 2013

If you've found your way to jalan leban, then jalan kuras is just the road to the left along the stretch that houses awfully chocolate.

then look for the sign that says Ming Choon Pau Dian and that's basically where you'd find the bread table.

blink and you'll miss it.

i went at night and found myself being asked if i'd like to have some 'zhu chao' mandarin for stir fry. So by night, the shop converts to stir-fried dishes.

What a brilliant use of space.

So these sour dough breads were recommended. But I was here solely for the baguette.
Which we managed the nab the LAST one. smile

At $2.90, this was not cheap.

but let's see if this was any good?
Ripping it apart, it was all nice and meaty. Densely packed and what about the bite?
You've gotta gnash it apart. That took some jaw action.
Toasted? It was crisp and tasted much better that way, with butter and some homemade kaya.

Mmm heaven.

Worth the $2.90? Sure. But I won't be fighting for it.

I'll be back to try those tantalizing sticky buns or cinnamon walnut breads soon!

I needed some cheese. I'd think of nydc and their baked rice but it's been such a long time I've had any. What else could have some cheese?

And this was just the place to look for some.

This was their spicy meat lovers.

10-inch pizza for $20. And it was just OVERLOADED with cheese.

Seriously.

Spicy chorizo, salami, chilli, tomato paste and mozzarella cheese.

it was a blanket of cheese I kid you not.

And you'd literally be stuffed with cheese if you murdered the entire pizza on your own.

Which I almost did and hereby testifying the actuality of the statement.

I loved it though. the spiciness of the chorizo and chilli broke the monotony of salty mozza toppings. the crust was like biscuit on the ends and chewy in the middle.

yum. smile
