Wintermelon milk tea... yucks. Cry Jul 09, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese Desserts | Bubble Tea/ Tea

So I ordered this drink, Wintermelon Milk Tea from this outlet because I was thirsty. I was looking forward and expecting it to be something very milky yet refreshing (since wintermelon tea and milk tea are my favorite) but when I finally got my drink, the color looks like muddy water. I got a funny feeling about it and poke in my straw to have the first taste. It tastes nothing like a milky taste and instead what I am tasting is a super diluted winter melon tea with only 10% of milk in it (which explains the color).

The large cup was filled to brim with the muddy water and I guess I can only finish like 1/15 of it and threw the whole thing away. I heard from my partner later that the person inside who was making the drink doesn't know how to make it! This was supposed to be one of the hot selling item and yet... I'll rather just spend $1 at Bugis Village to buy the diluted watermelon juice and it will still taste as good. huffy

PRATA Cry Apr 08, 2013
Categories : Indian | Singaporean | Coffeeshop | Halal

Ordered myself 2 egg prata for supper. Their prata is not oily and the egg is not overcooked. The curry to dip the prata is quite diluted, if it's thicker it will be much better. Nothing much special about the prata though.

Also ordered a plate of maggie goreng in pattaya style. A disaster dish I must say. The omelet which wrapped the maggie mee has a very strong chao-tah (burnt) smell. The maggie goreng is very oily and to the extend I feel that it was being soaked in oil... definitely not recommended.

I don't usually pick on food as long as the portion is right and the taste is there. But when it comes to Taiwanese dishes/cuisine, I can be very anal and particular on how good or bad it gets.

Eat at Taipei claim itself to offer authentic Taiwanese dishes - not. I lunched there with a heavy heart (because my partner wanted to try) and to me, either you eat the food at Taiwan itself or just buy the usual Shihlin Mee Sua (which somehow pass my will do. Didn't have any high hope for this place and indeed I was right.

As they only have their "hi-tea" menu from 3pm-5pm (if I remembered correctly), we can only choose from what's available during that time slot. A huge let down actually because what I wanted to order was not inclusive in this menu, so we randomly ordered a few dishes to try - Oyster Meesua, Crispy Chicken and Tofu, Yam Ball sweet soup as dessert.

The mee sua is a total failure as it taste like those you can easily buy from supermarket. NOT authentic at all. The sweet soup too, tasted like its been mass spam by sugar syrup. Both the crispy chicken and tofu is somehow acceptable, but then again how can you go wrong by just coating and frying the food?

I think a $3.80 shihlin mee sua is good enough for me if I am craving for taiwanese street food.

exploded sausage Cry Feb 15, 2013

Got a shocked when I open my chippy box and saw what happen to the sausage. It looks as though it has exploded inside the box with my mash potato. I guess this is due to poor frying skill of the service crew. Major minus point and it gives me a bad impression of this place.

No doubt that the sausage and mash potato taste alright (mash have way too much MSG), I still think that the first impression is very important. Not sure if I were to visit this place again, or try out the same dish next time.

One of the worst steaks I've ate Cry Nov 19, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

Went for a late lunch at New York New York and ordered the Ribeye Steak with Teriyaki Sauce, serve with salad and mash. Turn out there's a layer of baked cheese (??) on my ribeye which I think is kind of like a disaster to me. Ribeye should not be topped up with baked cheese or infact, anything except the sauce.

Anyway, I proceed to cut my ribeye which I want it to be cooked medium-ly...turn out it was very well done on the side but bloody in the centre. Clearly the steak was de-frozed because I can even taste the "frozen" meat taste. mad the meat was very tough and I have difficulty to cut the meat. Everything is so wrong and I think the best food in the plate is the salad (though the dressing was too much IMO)

Anyway, one of our order went missing and we realized they have forgotten about the order until we highlighted the issue to them.

Guess I'll not return to NYNY anymore.
