"Lamington Burgers" Smile Mar 22, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches

I found my Macdonalds burger alternative: The Lamington Burger! It is honestly so much better in terms of quality, ingredients, portion. Besides, it is also quite cheap at $3.50 for whatever you see in the picture. It includes a tasty beef patty, mushrooms (which I wished could have more of), tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, and cheese! So much ingredients for only $3.50.

The atmosphere at Palette is also air-conditioned and so much quieter and spacious with a lovely view overlooking NIE. I also like Palette because it is so much cleaner than Canteen A/ Mac area.

Night ice-cream Smile Feb 22, 2013

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

I really like it when ice-cream parlours don't turn on their air-con to the maximum and keep it at room temperature but not warm-temperature. It makes eating ice-cream so much more enjoyable. This Udders branch is quite full that day, at around 9, even though it is a rather isolated branch. It goes to show how popular Udders it! smile

The service staff are really friendly even though they were swamped with the crowd and complied by our requests to taste the ice-cream flavours. In the end I bought Mango Sherbet Ice Cream, my all-time favourite flavour. It's really refreshing and sweet, my favourite kind of ice-cream. The server was still learning to scoop ice-cream and so the shape wasn't round. But it's okay, ice-cream is still ice-cream in any shape. smile

I also appreciate that there's a washroom at the back of the parlour, makes late-night friends gathering so much more convenient.

Curry Wok comes immediately to my mind when it comes to eating zi char! :> Curry Wok really excels in all areas of being a restaurant, and here's why:

Food, the soul of the restaurant
Let's face it: Without good food, a restaurant is nothing. And trust me, the dishes here are really yummy and has this homemade factor. The dishes are all sooo delicious that I can eat 2.5 bowls of rice whenever I come here. There's also a whole range of dishes that you can choose from, including Hainanese Pork Chop (my fav and must-order), Home-made Ngo Hiang (second favourite in the pork section), otak-otak, Curry Chicken w/ Potatoes, Prawn Omelette, Nonya Chap Chye, Century Egg Tofu! Okay those mentioned are the dishes that I've tried and certified DELICIOUS! Go ahead and try other dishes - I have absolute confidence that all the dishes are very yummy smile The serving size is also just right or a little over more than enough depending on your appetite size.

Service, gives good memories
The boss of the restaurant is a super friendly man that caters to your questions (what's delicious, what's recommended) and needs (where you prefer to sit, outside or inside?) very patiently, humbly and very friendly. I really like the way he runs his restaurant. Moreover, the speed at which they serve the dishes is quite fast, like within 10 minutes you'll be ready to eat. At the end of the meal, they won't rush you to go out even though the restaurant is very small. There was once I lost my handphone in this place and he actually helped me keep it until the next time I went back.

Cleanliness & Atmosphere, feels like home
It is really clean and spotless. That's why it feels like home when I eat here - they make sure everywhere is super clean and nice and really cozy! I really like eating with my friends in a big crowd too, because it's almost like a reunion dinner here. Love this place.

Price, super worth it
Okay students! You have a good deal here - $7/pax for 4 dishes + drinks each - with a group of 4 people! The boss is also very flexible with this offer, if you're coming in with a group of non-multiples of 4, he'll help give you an arrangement. If you're too old to enjoy this discount :X, you can look at the menu below here to see the prices:

Even at about $14/pax, I can tell you it's super worth it because you'll be so full at the end of it, you can skip dessert happily and last for the next four/five hours without thinking about food. Every extra bowl of rice is $0.50. There's no GST/service charge, so what you see is what you pay.

Wondering where to go for your next dinner outing with friends/family? Curry Wok is a highly recommended choice.

Conscientious service.  Smile Dec 31, 2012

I ordered a Snackers box which consists of their original Shrooms burger, fries and coke. The food is as usual, given that it is a fast food restaurant and quality should be consistent. The point I want to highlight is their service smile As there were not enough fries at point of order, they sent it over promptly after I ordered. In fact it's the manager who sent it over and he apologise for the tardiness - even though it's quite fast. While you may think this is the bare minimum or service, many fast food restaurants have really terrible service such as delivering the food slowly and without a word, and also hinting to clear your trays as a means to chase you out. Despite the KFC branch to be quite full, nobody came to hint to chase me out. Being considerate I left to give up my seat, but it's nice not being chased out. smile

P/S: Shrooms burger is really underrated. Nobody thinks much of it but it's really delicious and it's only $3.90 for a meal!

Creation Café really exceeded my expectations and after my meal, I walked away fully satisfied, and definitely thinking of my second visit here. Located at the first floor of Shaw Tower, this unassuming, quiet little café seemed rather ordinary and plain. My friend and I was walking rounds around Shaw Towers, wondering what to eat for an early dinner. There were a few other restaurants around, but we were craving for some Western food so we settled for Creation Café.

Service
The waiter immediately ushered us to an empty seat and found two stools to put our bags on. I was amazed by the speed at which their service operated at. When we sat down, two glasses of iced water instantaneously appeared. I was so impressed that they seemed to manage to read our minds (we were complaining about being thirsty on our way there and were wondering where to put our bags). Thereafter, they presented us the menu and order form which was easy to understand. After we ordered, they collected our form promptly. The more remarkable thing is the level of attentiveness paid as we ate, ensuring that the main course was served right after the appetizer, and the dessert right after the main course. I really liked the fact that they paid a lot of attention and are really thoughtful, even though the prices of the food are not expensive. Usually this standard of service should be accompanied by a certain high price in the menu – but no – their service was really impeccable without charging GST! They did not show any signs of rushing us out even though we completed our meal, something a lot of restaurants would do these days.

Food
Drink: Iced Lemon Tea

Drink: Iced Lemon Tea

My friend ordered Set A (Soup + Main Course + Drink = $12.80, NO GST/Service Charge) while I ordered Set B (Soup + Main Course + Drink + Dessert = $15.30, NO GST/ Service Charge). It is really very cheap for the number of courses you get, and it is really delicious.
Appetizer: Tomato Soup

Appetizer: Tomato Soup

The soup that was served was their regular Soup-of-the-day, Tomato Soup. For people who hate tomato/vegetables or don’t like the taste, you will be amazed by how they managed to turn something as disgusting (in my opinion) into something so heavenly. Seriously, this soup is damn delicious!!! It is sweet, a little sour and really very delicious. I ate every single bit and wished there was more.
Main Course: Italian Sausages and Tomato Herb Sauce

Main Course: Italian Sausages and Tomato Herb Sauce

For the main course, I ordered the Italian Sausages Tomato Herb Sauce with Pasta. There is the usual array of pasta types you can choose from – Spaghetti/Fusilli/Linguine/Penne/ etc. While the main course itself is not as extraordinary as the appetizer, it is still quite delectable. There were tiny bits of sausages and tomato base paste. Maybe next time I will try some other flavor instead because this is quite normal.
Dessert: Apple Crumble and Vanilla Ice-Cream

Dessert: Apple Crumble and Vanilla Ice-Cream

As for the dessert, I chose Apple Crumble with Ice Cream (choice of vanilla and chocolate – which I chose Vanilla). I was very full at this point, but then again, I always reserve a secret compartment in my stomach for dessert ^_^ This Apple Crumble is really sweet and indulging. Every bit of it feels very real, you can taste the real apple bits in it. It is warm and the ice-cream is cold, so when mixed together, it’s really one pleasing combination that makes you feel so happy and blessed. That’s what desserts should make you feel! Originally I wanted to continue to eat ice-cream at Tom’s Palette just round the corner, but I was too full! Haha!

Ambience

Quiet, relaxing place to hang out with friends without feeling the stress of speaking too loudly. It is suitable for friends, colleagues, couples, family to hang out… really a wonderful place!

Being a budget eater, I don’t like to pay too much for my meals especially when it’s not worth it. $15.30 for an appetizer, main course, drink, and even a dessert – what more can you ask for? Plus impeccable service, a lovely ambience, and delicious good food… you just need some delightful company to complete this absolutely perfect meal.

I'll definitely come back to try some of their other dishes next time!
