Hokkien Mee Smile Jun 07, 2011

This hokkien mee stall always draws a crowd during dinner time. I waited for about 10mins for my hokkien mee. The wait is worthwhile as the hokkien mee is simply fabulous and I think it is one of the best that I have tasted. The noodle has lots of gravy and the gravy is very sweet and I believed it is cooked using chicken stock. There were three big fresh prawns, bean sprouts and egg as ingredients. This stall does not add thin slices of fatty meat unlike other stall. The prawn was cooked together with the noodles, it was not boiled and added. The noodles were very well cooked despite the person cooking a 3 people serving due to the dinner crowd. I saw the cook added some powder to the noodle during cooking which I believed could be a secret recipe. The chilli was spicy and fantastic too. What a wonderful dinner to have. It costs $4.20 for a plate though a bit expensive but at least it was a great dinner.

Seafood Platter for 3 Smile Jun 07, 2011
Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

I had a mini-gathering with friends at this lavishly adorned restaurant with a good view of sentosa from our table. I think it is nice to have the table near the bar with the inclined and cushion seats as the view is better.
We ordered a seafood platter for 3 which contain mussels, fish, prawns, fried calamari, boiled vegetables, vegetable salad and grilled skewer fruits. All the seafood used was fantastic as they were very fresh and succulent. The tomato and egg sauce for the mussels were excellent. It has sufficient thickness and the sour taste from the tomato makes it very appetizing. The mussels were huge and did not have any fishy taste. Further, the juice from the mussels spurts in your mouth when you bite it and the mussels were huge.
I believed the grilled fish was dory. It was soft and tender. The sauce was creamy and there was a cheesy taste. It was delectable but I feel too much of it will make one sick due to the creamy nature. The taste lingers in your mouth after eating it.
The prawns were very well grilled and seasoned. They were extremely fresh and sweet too. However, there was a feeling of not having sufficient of it as 3 prawns were simply too little.
The calamari tastes pretty normal, nothing really special. They were springy and gave a good bite.
This is a good dinner but I just feel that the amount of seafood given was too little and there were too many vegetables. At $72.90 for this meal, it was considered expensive. Though the vegetables are very sweet and nice too especially the French beans which are very juicy, they do not cost that much. I am an advocate of healthy eating but I think the amount of vegetables can be reduced and perhaps add more mussels and prawns.

Sha Cha Chicken OK Jun 07, 2011

Categories : Bakery

Not sure what is sha cha chicken, and I am still not sure after eating it. A different flavor from the usual.

The bread is coated with sesame seeds, very appealing to the eyes. The amount of filling is reasonable too. The first taste of the chicken seems to be like curry. A second taste confirms that it is NOT curry. It is quite a different taste, however I think I will stick to my usual.

Pancake Smile Jun 07, 2011

Not my first time eating the pancake from jollibean. The standard differs slightly for different outlets, as it depends on the person cooking it. The standard of the filling is the same, probably because it is brought from the factory.

The pancake is here is good. The batter is well cooked, not soggy, and not too thick. The filling, on the other hand, is thick and delicious. The traditional pancake comes in 2 flavors - peanut and red bean. Buy 3 for only $2.80.

Claypot rice OK Jun 07, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Food Court

Ordered the claypot chicken and mushroom rice. Quite a disappointment I would say, considering that they have other good food.

The rice was quite bland, not sweet or salty enough. They cut up the chicken wing into smaller pieces for easy eating. The chicken was the better part, tender and marinated. The mushroom was quite hard and not crunchy. There was some slices of sausage too.

Not exactly the best claypot rice around, nor the best food they serve.

Spending per head: Approximately $5.50
