There are many Chinese steamboat places in Singapore that originates from China. A famous steamboat chain in China that serves "Ma La Huo Guo" has arrived in Singapore! That is non other than Hai Di Lao that has opened more than 80 branches in all parts of China. As my friend has tried the one Beijing, she was excited and thrilled when she found out that it has opened in Clarke Quay.

Really, what's so unique about Hai Di Lao? It's really the AWESOME SERVICE which I will elaborate throughout the post! Hence, we made our way to Hai do Lao!

All in all, we will definitely be back! We wouldn't mind the queue with such good service while waiting. But, if you're in a hurry, you might want to make reservations probably a week or two in advance! (Half-scale already need a week in advance).

I am not a fan of TSP until I came across Loong Fatt TSP so..... please have a try!

The best part is probably that they prepare their TSP on the spot so every batch you buy will be hot from the oven! Of course, that said, it is best eaten when its hot. The buttery taste is best savoured hot and flaky!

Yes, this is my favourite TSP in town! Normally, I will only get the salty ones as I feel that the sweet ones are a bit too sweet for my liking. Look at those pastry! They are calling out to you, readers! Have a try and understand why I am so excited!

For full review and photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2012/10/vintage-delicafe-bussorah-street.html

When we arrived there at 6.45p.m, the seats indoors were almost filled. It is quite a small restaurant with limited seating capacity of about less than 50 seats both indoors and outdoors, thus we were lucky to have a table for 2. So, be sure to make reservations if you're going there during meal times to avoid having to wait for a long time.

We had a hard time finishing our main courses due to the big portion! We wanted to try their Tiramisu for dessert, but was too full to do so. The business is run by a family and thus, dining there really feels very homely.

Overall, I feel that Vintage Delicafe serves unpretentious homely comfort food. I will come back to try their other dishes such as their grilled food and their Aglio Olio. When I left, the friendly staff asked me for some feedback, and I said that it was great portions and homely food. He quipped that it is indeed that they serve in huge portions and would be best that I go with a hungry stomach.

For affordable comfort food, I think Vintage Delicafe is worth your try! But, don't forget to make reservations!

Fresh Seafood, Yummy Dishes! Smile Aug 05, 2014

Categories : Teochew | Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Zi Char

I think many Teochew food lovers would have heard of Ah Orh since it has been around since long time ago. I was introduced to this place by my uncle who found the dishes at Ah Orh authentic and good. There is one Ah Orh in Bukit Merah and one in Sin Ming. We went to the one in Sin Ming.
One of the famous dishes in Ah Orh is the Teochew cold crabs. The crabs ar boiled and placed in the fridge for some time before they are served. The highlight is the "gao" of the crab. I read that the "gao" is actually not the roe of the egg but this crab is actually double shelled and it is formed when the crab is shedding one layer of shell. Hmmmmmm... Interesting. I totally loved it. I think the best way of eating seafood is in it's natural flavour like that!
My personal favourite is the Oysters Omelette. Firstly, I love oysters. The oysters here is unlike the others I've eaten at other Tzi Char stalls. The oysters are so fresh that even my cousins who don't usually eat oysters loved it. The egg- was fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. The fire control must have been awesome! I like how the oysters were placed atop the egg rather than fried with it because it would have been a waste to cook such good oysters.
We actually also ordered Steamed Pomfret (I think it cost about $70-80) as seen below. It is the best steamed pomfret I've eaten thus far. The fish is so fresh without even a small hint of fishy taste. The gravy or rather soup was totally impressive. I could slurp the whole bowl down literally. It complemented the fish so well. Totally brought steamed fish to a different level. I guess the freshness of the fish attributed to a large part of the success of the dish.
Overall, I think Ah Orh really serves up really fresh seafood and authentic Teochew dishes. If you are a die-hard Teochew dish fan, do try Ah Orh out and let me know whether it met your expectations! smile

For full review and photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2013/04/folks-collectives-soft-launch-china.html

When you walk pass the restaurant, you will definitely be attracted by the restaurant's decor. It's interior is inspired from a vintage market in Bangkok. Hence, the mismatched furniture, vintage posters and reminiscent displays around the restaurant. Do note that I was there for the soft launch and there are actually more dishes in the actual menu!

The food they serve are Thai food and some dishes are fusion of Thai and other cuisines. Let me introduce you the various dishes we tried! Prices of the dishes vary from $5 to about $13. I feel that the price is reasonable for the quality of food. I would update the individual dish prices once I get them from Akira!

The Green Curry Chicken ($8.90) can be seen below. For those who like green curry, I would say this is a must try. You can see that the bowl is overflowing with ingredients like brinjal, chicken and spices. This dish is not spicy, so, for those who can't take spicy food, try this. The coconut milk taste is not too overpowering so it suits my palate. This dish goes really well with rice!

We were given free flow lemongrass drink that day as their opening special. But, we couldn't help it but order our own cup of Thai Milk Iced Tea! It's about $2 for a cup if I'm not mistaken. The cup is specially purchased to go with the restaurant's theme. The Thai Milk Iced tea is really refreshing. As I am not a lemongrass fan, I would choose the milk tea over the lemongrass drink.

The mini bucket of chicken drumsticks were free flow that day. On the actual menu, it would be sold at $6.90 per mini bucket. We liked the marinade and the sauce drizzled over the drums. A great appetizer to whet your appetites.
Folk's Wings

The mango salad with soft shell crab is about $10 and was recommended by Akira. I got to say the mango salad is really nice! The mango salad is not overly unripe and thus, not too sour. The soft shell crab was fried well and tasty.

The Ice cream Kati ($4.90) is coconut icecream topped with some nuts. The base has sticky glutinous rice which suprisingly goes extremely well with the icecream. Even though I'm not a coconut fan, I love the dessert! Do try it if you're there.

If you're looking for a new Thai restaurant, do try out Folks Collective for their classic Thai dishes and innovative Thai fusion dishes! smile And you'll definitely enjoy the ambience and the decor that is carefully thought through by the owner of the shop! If you're curious as to why it's called Folks Collective, do ask the people there!

For those who are interested in cocktails, they do serve alcohol and unique cocktails priced below $20!
