2 loaves is a bakery that is nestled in the neighbourhood of Commonwealth. This unassuming small bakery offers an array of bakes such as cookies, cakes, banana bread and more.
When we first stepped into this bakery, the displays on the counter placed in the centre of the shop were the first thing that caught our eyes. We really like how the cakes were delectably displayed as it really whets the appetite. The only thing about 2 loaves is that they did not have any seats available for patrons who wish to dine in. However, this might change in the near future as they have plans to add a few seats.
We tried their Strawberry Cheesecake. It was really rich in flavour and moist. What I really liked was also the crust of the cheesecake that complemented really well with the cheese layer. The strawberry in the cake created balance to the cake.
We also tried the Banana Chocolate Loaf. They have other flavours such as S'mores as well as Chocolate base cake with banana fillings to cater to different preferences. The load wasn't too sweet which was good. It was quite dense and is definitely a loaf that is suitable for sharing.
Overall, we feel that 2 loaves is an unpretentious bakery that serves up good bakes.

Authentic & Affordable Thai Food! Smile May 20, 2014

Location wise, it is about 15 minutes walk from Bishan Interchange. Alternatively, you can take a bus there as well. It's quite an inconspicuous restaurant lined beside a coffeeshop.
Chang Thai consists of indoor and outdoor dining areas. The restaurant is simply decorated with warm lighting and patterned wallpapers. This place is quite casual and fuss-free. They have quite a huge seating capacity both inside and outside of the restaurant thus, quite suitable for families and large groups.
We tried their Milk Green Tea and Thai Iced Milk Tea ($2.50 each). It was my first time seeing and trying Milk Green Tea. It was interesting in flavour, sort of like a tinge of jasmine in the drink infused with condensed milk. I felt that their Thai Iced Milk Tea was refreshing but, could do with a stronger tea aroma and less milk. Nevertheless, what is Thai Food without their drinks to complement?
We drank the Tom Yam Seafood Soup with chill paste ($7 for small; $10 for medium). They serve up clear base soup as well. The Tom Yam was really quite fragrant and good perhaps because of the ingredients they added to lift the flavour such as lemongrass and such. They added mushrooms and a generous serving of prawns and squid as well. I like that it was served piping hot and definitely whets the appetite!
The Prawn Cake ($6.80 for 3 pieces; $2 for additional piece) was one of my favourite dishes! The outside of it was crisp and golden brown while the insides had succulent prawn bits in it. I feel that it is quite tasty on it's own and don't really need to dip it into the sauce. Would love to try their fish cake next time round!
Overall, the dining experience was quite positive. The food was served up quite fast and piping hot! Prices are also quite reasonable with no GST and Service Charge! I'm glad that there is a place for Thai food lovers in the north to visit and satisfy their Thai food cravings.

A friend of mine shared with me that there is this really yummy bak kut teh in the AMK area and so I decided to give it a try! It is located at Chong Boon Food Centre which is just a few bus stops away from AMK mrt station.
Pig trotters (Te Kar). This was really good. One of the better pig trotters that I have tasted in Singapore. The meat was well braised and very soft. Definitely worth trying!
Bak Kut Teh. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with the bowl of soup. I am a huge fan of bak kut teh and the one I frequent the most is Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh. I will definitely prefer Ya Hua's soup over Seng Kee's. The soup was a bit too oily for my liking.
Overall, I had a good experience at Seng Kee Bak Kut Teh. I will definitely be back for the pig trotters that is so sinful yet so tasty!

For full review and more photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2014/05/ronin-thumbsforfood.html
Stepping into Ronin, I felt that I was entering another world. I described it as entering a black hole in the wall. The cafe has a relatively dark ambience with ceiling lights and filament bulbs to light up the place. The concept of the cafe is like modern industrial themed. At the centre of the cafe, there is a huge round table, inviting patrons to dine in communal style. They do have smaller tables around as well. I really like the whole vibe of the cafe.
Ronin did not have a physical menu when we were there. So, the staff verbally told us what they served. Besides toasts, sandwiches and eggs, they also have a variety of desserts for those who are looking for some sweets. They are displayed on the glass display in front of the counter.
We ordered a Flat White ($4.20) and Wicked Mocha ($6.50). The flat white is quite fragrant and aromatic. Wicked Mocha is actually Mint with coffee and a dash of chocolate. The mint flavour was really very strong! I would say the drink is of an acquired taste - really wicked. Do give it a try if you're up to try something really different.
We ordered Scrambled Eggs with toast ($9) and added Portobello Mushroom (additional $3.50) , Sausage (Additional $4.50) and Avocado (additional $3) as the sides. The scrambled eggs was one of the best we have ever eaten. The eggs were so fluffy, had the right amount of butter and was really good! I especially like the portobello mushroom. Okay, I guess I am biased. Because I am a huge fan of portobello and having a whole slice to myself is just too awesome!
Salted Caramel Brownie ($4) was our chosen dessert. We liked that the brownie was slightly crispy on the outside and moist within. It's a good brownie but we couldn't really taste the Salted Caramel flavor.
We feel the prices of the food are quite affordable. With no GST and Service Charge, I will think Ronin is really value for money. I do hope that their standard of food remains to be good and I look forward to my next visit to try their Matcha Latte!

Quality grilled meat! Smile May 08, 2014

For full review and more photos, please visit http://thumbsforfood.blogspot.sg/2014/05/arossa-wine-grill-thumbsforfood.html
Arossa prides itself for its grills that are flown fresh from Australia and New Zealand. They also have wines that are brought from all over the world to pair with their food on the menu. Another interesting fact about Arossa is that the chef, Chiaki Watanabe is actually the first Japanese woman chef in Singapore.
As we enter the restaurant, it is alike stepping into a cozy European Restaurant. Yet, there is something modernistic about the whole place brought forward by it's open concept kitchen placed at the heart of the restaurant. We particularly like the full-length windows where you can dine and people watch at the same time.
Our welcome drink for the night was Mojito ($15; 1-for-1 at $18). The freshly squeezed lime juice coupled with the fresh mint leaves made the Mojito a really refreshing drink. The glass that the drink was served in was also thoroughly chilled, making the drink constantly cold.
For starters, we had the Oysters with Champagne Vinegar, Lemon (1pc at $8, 6pcs at $42 and 12pcs at $75). The oysters at Arossa are air-flown from Canada. They were really fresh. Unlike other oysters that are slightly on the mushy side, the oysters hear are pretty firm and succulent. The downside was the prices are on the steep side.
Another signature dish on their menu was the Spanish Iberian Pork Loin ($38 for 200g). The meat looked similar to the steak just that the cut was thicker. We were told that the pork was raised akin to beef in Spain, which might possibly be the reason for the meat to be more tender. This is my personal favourite because the way the pork is being cooked and served is not quite common.
Arossa really offers an extensive wine collection. If you are lost by the myriad of choices, you can get introductions for pairing from the friendly staff. For desserts, we had their Tiramisu served with Sweet Mascarpone and Savoiardi Biscuit ($14). The tiramisu was really good, an instant melt-in-the-mouth dessert. It was light which makes it a good choice for dessert lovers even after a filled stomach.
We also tried the Apple Tart served with Cinnamon Ice Cream ($14). I particularly enjoyed the crust of the Apple Tart and it went so well with the caramelised apples.
Overall, we feel that Arossa serves up quality grills set in a great ambience. They also have private dining rooms for large groups. We would recommend this place for dates or for special occasions in the family. We hope to be back to savour their quality meat again!
