Reasonable Korean food OK Jul 07, 2013

Having seen the reviews, i made a reservations for 6 pax for dinner. When I arrived, I realized that my reservations was not recorded and the restaurant was only half filled on a Saturday night. The service was quite bad. The waitress spilled water on my friend's phone and rush off to take more napkins, but failed to apologize for the mistake. huffy

Service aside, I had the Chicken Bulgogi Set ($12++), which is a huge portion! There is way too much meat to finish on my own. The chicken is tender and well marinated, but a bit spicy. In addition, their side dishes are refillable. The potato salad with apple is very nice, and we had 4 refills of that.

The Korean BBQ store relocated from novena lodge, and its better than before. Their grill is new and without aluminum foil, and throughout the 2 hours that i was there, I didnt have the problems of burnt meat being stuck on the grill. Even though the price increased slightly, but it is still a worthwhile meal ($26).

Though ice water is provided, i preferred the pomegranate drink. It is very sweet and refreshing!

All their meat is well marinated, and taste the best when wrapped with raw lettuce. Try to put the kimchi on the grill and add it to the wrap too, its good! Selection of meat wise was limited for a buffet, but sufficient. There are fruits and salad for the health conscious.

Their shop in Bugis+ is small and cramped. I had a hard time finding seats on a weekend afternoon. I had their Signature ($4.90), which is my usual order but without the black pearl. As compared to my previous experience with Blackball when it was first launched in Singapore, i think that the portion of glass jelly given is significantly thinner than it was before. Food presentation wise is messy and unappealing. The only comfort is that the food is still as decent as before.

Lao Ban  Smile Jul 07, 2013

There is totally no queue when i went on a weekend, even though it is located at a busy location within the bus interchange. The prices are the same as the original Lao Ban at old airport road, pricing at $1.50 for the normal flavor, and $2 for the almond ones. The taste wise is similar as well, with the same silky texture and sweetness. The bad point is that there is no seats or table nearby for consumption.

Value Weekday Student Lunch Smile Jul 07, 2013

The Chicken Katsu toji at Watami cost only $6.90++ for students on weekday, and its valid till 6pm! It is a super good deal. It is served on a hotplate, which isn't hot at all, but the chicken itself is! The outer layer is deep fried and crispy, with goes perfect with the egg sauce. One minus side is the flour looks thicker than the chicken meat itself. The service is not fantastic as well. Even though there was only another occupied table in the restaurant (ie, the waitress are very free), they are not attentive and it is hard to catch their attention. The speed at which the food is served is fast though. For such a cheap price in a restaurant, it is well worth another visit.
