Oriole Cafe Smile Jul 31, 2013

Went Oriole for lunch after a hot yoga session, I was so hungry and wanted to order everything on the menu. I had St. Louis’ pork ribs $28, not only have the usual sweet and tangy taste this ribs tasted more Asian with the sambal matah along side, ribs were braised till tender and fall-off-the-bone. Served with perfectly roasted puffy sweet potato and fresh crunchy tossed greens) Superb!
I thought of having a light sweet ending but I can’t resist the temptation and ordered a Oriole knickerbocker glory $14 ; smooth and luscious triple chocolate & vanilla ice cream with sweet brandied cherries, crunchy almond cat's tongue and crispy double chocolate cookies.

Awfully Chocolate Smile Jul 31, 2013

Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Ice Cream and Gelato

Nothing can stop my craving from having my dose of sweet and cold dessert!
Shopping at Ion , I walked past Awfully Chocolate with a bright contrast of black and whites (mainly whites as the friendly staff were all dressed in), while waiting for hubby, I ordered : Hei Ice Cream and Dark Chocolate Truffles

Hei Ice Cream is their trademark super premium dark chocolate, it’s very rich, smooth and dense. Also due to the lower sugar content, makes it decently healthy (who am I kidding, but I’m sold!) than regular icecream.

Dark chocolate truffles are beautiful cubes hand cut and thoroughly coated/dusted with cocoa powder which makes it even more bitter-rich taste.
Eat more dark chocolate, it helps reduce stress, makes you happier.

Ah Loy Thai Smile Jul 31, 2013

Categories : Thai

While at Shaw Towers, friend wants to blanjah me Thai Food so we went to Ah Loy as I have good impressions of it from the other branch I dined in.

We ordered Thai Sweet Chilli Chicken, Tom Yum Soup, Butter Calamari , Fried rice

The Butter Calamari , one of their signature dishes is well fried and it’s chewy texture is just right unlike the undercooked ones which never seems to be possible to chew through. Coated with butter and spicy chilli kickstarts the appetite ready for more!

Thai Sweet Chilli Chicken has a layer of crispy batter , crunches into the tender meat which is very juicy and soaked with a dipping of mild sweet thai chili at the bottom.

Tangy tom yum soup with fresh seafood was vibrant orange with the colour contrast of green garnishings made the visual appeal grade and did not disappoint in the spicy appetizing taste as well.

Fried rice was alright, but I didn’t like how the prawns sizing were inconsistent and could have been more well balanced and if the meat/eggs and raisins were well mixed into it. Has potential, but this one got careless.

Spending per head: Approximately $16

Pancakes Here  Smile Jul 31, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

There’s definitely a hype about pancakes now, have seen like 4 different shops selling pancakes. Having high expectation upon stepping into this little pancakes. I ordered Ape about Banana, fluffy and buttery soft pancakes laid nicely on top of warm caramelized bananas topped with cold and smooth ice cream.
Visually tantalizing pancakes were really delicious, would definitely come back again to try their savory ones.
Nice !

KBBBQ Smile Jul 31, 2013

Categories : Korean | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant | BBQ

K-Food, K-Pop, K-Bar all in one ! this hip and cool hangout with live performances and is powered by fast and friendly staff.
We ordered: Seafood Toppoki and Fish Cake Stew.

The seafood toppoki was a marriage between the flavours of sweet and spicy, sea (prawns) and land (rice) , the prawns was fresh and crunchy, peeling off the shells was a "sea" breeze (sign of freshness), and rice cake toppoki is chewy and a familiar local feeling like kueh kueh.

When it came to the Fish Cake Soup (Ohdengtang) , bubbling in boiling heat made it look visually appealing, only to get my hopes high up and the mixed fish paste/cake stew becomes a bit too bland for my liking. It's like steamboat but with just fish, I wished there was pork strips for me to throw in to cook! However, they are very generous with the ingredients as it almost overflows out of it.
