Big disappointment! Cry Aug 30, 2013

A friend was craving for snow ice after lunch so we stopped by for a dessert.

She's a big mango fan and she ordered the mango snow ice. She's not fussy and thus she finds the snow ice good.

I ordered the strawberry snow ice. Needless to say, i am disappointed when i saw the colouring. Too much colouring and the strawberry syrup is too sweet. Its not cheap, it cost about $4. Wouldnt eat snow ice from this store anymore. Will probably try the hot desserts.

My first meal here was probably 3 years back during lunch as the lunch crowd at Chevron is madness. Here again after 3 years after a colleague's recommendation, she didnt tell us where we were eating either.

2 colleagues shared the chicken briyani as the portion is huge. I think it is enough for 3 girls actually. The yogurt here taste a little weird, and the dessert was way too sweet. Otherwise, the rice and chicken were decent.

I had the vegetarian murtabak. It was thin. I feel that there isnt much ingredients in it. The taste is pretty decent too.

Overall, its acceptable.

Wanted to check this place out for a long time after seeing many latte art from this place in instagram. It was until a friend offered to drive me down to visit, as it is located at the (extreme) east side of Singapore, the public transport will probably take me 1.5hours to reach!

The staff are very friendly and even offered to setup a table for us when its full house. They are also attentive when i noticed several tables raise their hands and they seem to be able to acknowledge all of us at the same time that he will be there to take (all) our orders.

My friend ordered the macchiato latte, and was disappointed that she cant have any latte art on it, but coffee comes first! The coffee was decent, but not something that i will go back for. Well.. perhaps just for the latte art?

I ordered the matcha honey. And the friend asked for a pooh latte art. She squealed when she saw the pooh. The matcha honey is perfect, smooth and not-overly-sweet, and the hint of matcha bitterness still stays in the drink. Will definitely be back for more!

Lastly, I ordered a cake as i was too hungry, cant remember the name but its chocolate fudge cake or something. It was decent, but no wow factor definitely.

Went to the East to do some errands and passed by the nearest station to this cafe on the way back.
Decided to drop by for a quick lunch and ordered the Mac and cheese as its the safest choice to eat on their western menu.

But their mac and cheese is different from the ones served normally. They added lots of luncheon meat! It was a good surprise! Will definitely be back to eat this again!

Not shiok. Cry Aug 15, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

My friend has been wanting to try this place since many people are raving about the shiok maki. And there was always a long queue - is the food really that good? Decided to try our luck last Saturday, and we were surprised that there is no Q at 5pm, but after 5 minutes, a long queue formed behind our back.

We were asked to share a table of 4 since there are only 2 of us with another couple. The table wasnt separated to have our own space. My friend was annoyed with the service as they also take a long time to take our orders when we have told them that we are ready. But she stayed on for the shio maki since everyone said its so good.

I guessed they are shorthanded as we were told that it will be an hour wait for the shiok maki. I had to order something to eat while waiting so yaki udon is ordered and my friend is a big fan of pitan tofu.

The pitan tofu was sliced into 2 slices, which is very different compared to most places as its normally served as a block. The century egg gravy is quite diluted and the small lump of prawn roe on top is not fresh. Disappointment.

Instructed the waitress to serve us the yaki udon hot. It came warm, and the presentation is abit off. The udon will be better if its piping hot and perhaps, lesser salt.

The Shiok maki came after 45mins. It looks messy on first glance, and the sauce is too creamy.. but we decided to stop judging and eat it. The taste is horrible. The salmon is not definitely not fresh, and its too fishy. The sauce is too creamy that it 'swallows' the flavour of the maki, but its strange that it didnt manage to cover the fishyness of the salmon. Ate only 2, and i couldnt take it anymore.

While we were about to leave, the customers at the counter seat left too. And then i saw the salmon slices... how on earth that salmon is kept this way?

Would not come again if i have a choice, or unless there is not so many people, then I will try the yaki udon again.
