Not a fan of their waffles Cry Jul 01, 2013

Have always wanted to try the waffles at the loft cafe whenever i walked pass to go to the lomography shop.

The waffles consist of a scoop of vanilla ice cream with banana slices and almond flakes on a hot waffle drizzled with chocolate. The portion is enough for 2 to share. Was disappointed that the waffles are too dry although crispy, it seems that they left with waffles in the waffle maker for too long.

Their pancakes are so much better!

Second visit! Smile Jun 25, 2013   (Related Review)

Reservation is a must! Went late on a Sunday noon but didnt think of making a reservation as the cafe is hosting 2 private parties and we thought that the crowd has cleared. But its not, the cafe is so popular that it has 3 private parties in a day!

We decided to wait as we dont have any other places to go. There isn't any chair for you to sit and wait, but it was air conditioned, so we stood around. They sell some old school snacks like HIRO cakes. Was tempted to buy but 1 is perhaps not enough, it cost 50cents each.

The owner is very friendly and she came over to chat with us a little while we plead with her to let us sit at 1 corner where one of the tables are unused but it belonged to the private party area. She was reluctant at first but gave in, in the end, thumbs up for the service! We didnt expect that. And when one of the bigger tables cleared, she also allow us to move to a bigger space.

We were there for about 3 hours, luckily we told her that we are staying for dinner because the place filled up quickly when its around 6pm.

I had basil chicken rice this time and it is so good! Great because there is no hint of oil in the chicken, its dry but its moist when you chew it. Its not spicy but perhaps one can request for more chilli padi. The rice portion is very big as well, good for 2 girls to share.

My friend loves the horlicks tart but personally, i find it a little too sweet. I dont think the tart base is handbaked, but for the horlicks cream? i think it can be improved.

Major love the lychee ice blended drink! If only they can put in more lychees!

It was another treat (again!).

The folks ordered ikura sushi and their usual sets while i randomly order.
bbq puffer fish

bbq puffer fish

This is way better than bak kwa! There is no oil taste and it is also difficult to find a decent bbq pufferfish in Singapore. Many people either overcooked it or did not cook it long enough. The folks commented that they wouldnt order this if i didnt. A bowl of this cost $16.
chawanmushi

chawanmushi

The chawanmushi here is a MUST EAT. It is the same as the ones at chikuwa tei and wasabi tei. Same receipe. It cost $5. Much pricier than most places but this is quality chawanmushi with alot of ingredients in it, especially the strips of konnyaku jelly where most people wouldnt put in.
ochazuke

ochazuke

I find the ochazuke here has too little tea. But again, its quality green tea and its flavourful. The salmon here are in bigger pieces and there are more seaweed. Most places serve their ochazuke with diluted green tea and small salmon bits.

I will definitely go back for their bbq puffer fish. 3 plates is not enough!

Hidden Gem! Smile Jun 20, 2013

Saw this newly decorated shop with bright white signboards when i was at the coffeeshop buying the curry puff. And decided to buy a bowl of you mian to try. Bought the you mian because I couldn't make up my mind of what to eat - there are too many choices of ban mian.

The broth is sweet and most people use minced pork in the you mian but the pork here are sliced differently. If only i live in Ang Mo Kio or nearer to this block, I will definitely eat this every night! The taste still lingers.

The other different thing about this stall is i noticed they use the hot plate to cook, instead of gas. Surprisingly that the food is tasty! And their chilli is not diluted like most of the stalls, the chilli here is thick and spicy.

Have always wanted to try a French dining place but never really got a chance until one of my friends decided to hold her birthday dinner at this restaurant. Dress code was required. We were seated at a long table and a menu was placed on all our plates which was done exclusively for her.

After we were seated, the waitress approached us one by one to ask if we are allergic to any food despite the planned menu and if we would like to make any changes to the menu - it was quite odd to me as i thought this should be asked before the menu? No complains though since its a treat by the birthday girl.
Butter

Butter

The bread and butter was served. The butter is heavenly. Second best that i've eaten. 5 of us finished 2 baskets of bread but we used more than 10 butters... the butters are so good to eat it alone!
Amuse Bouche

Amuse Bouche

The amuse bouche is decent, although some of my friends doesnt fancy the taste. Amuse bouche is done according to the chef's selection and wine is served as well but i cant remember the brand and the year of the wine. The orange base has a hint of tomato and it tasted citrusy.
Terrine de foie gras

Terrine de foie gras

The terrine de foie gras is decent, its done with sauterne wine, braised fig, balsamic vinegar and came with mesclun salad and brioche toast. Not a big fan of foie gras so 1 serving of this is enough for me though some of my friends raved about it.
Soupe de Potiron

Soupe de Potiron

Loved this the most! It came after the foie gras. Its pumpkin veloute with roasted chestnut with croutons and Parmesan cheese. The pumpkin is fragrant and the chestnut taste only came after it. Surprisingly, the Parmesan cheese is not overwhelming.
Dinde Farcie

Dinde Farcie

The slow cooked stuffed turkey which came with Brussels' sprout, potato and forest mushrooms was the last dish and the most filling of all.
Pomme Verte

Pomme Verte

Lastly, the dessert is a slow-baked apple with calvados custard cream and green apple sorbet. The sorbet is a good dessert to wash the taste of the turkey, Would prefer more of the calvados custard cream though. The brandy brings out the taste of the apple and the sorbet.

The captain brought us a cake at the end of the dinner but we couldn't stomach it. Who would have thought these small portions of french food would make us so full? Perhaps its the never ending wine? Nevertheless, we brought the cake back to our suite.

We cut the cake after midnight and.... the cake is..... unexpectedly not very good. We were quite disappointed or perhaps they are not well known for their cakes? In the end, we gave the cake to our butler but we are not sure if he did finish it. . .

Overall, it was a good experience as it was my second time to sit through a french fine dining place.
