We started queueing at 11am on a Sunday morning and it wasn't until 1130 did they fully open. The queue moves fast. For $6, you get a lot of ingredients. There's no noodles in this bowl. Just flavourful fried fish and sliced fish pieces along with veggies and even tofu! A very hearty bowl of protein! The soup itself is very tasty and suspect MSG to be the culprit being that I was super thirsty after the meal. So note to self, don't drink so much of the soup. The fish itself is nice and fresh. continue reading

As far as fish slice awesome soup goes, they serve up really yummy goodness here. Trust me, I've tried many many places fish slice soup and this stall is honestly one of the best in this business!  Jin Huat Fish Head Bee Hoon is worth my 15mins of wait. Creamy white fish broth with fresh fish slices (no fishy nonsense). Mmmmm.... I can personally whack 2 servings but others will judge.... 2 thumbs up! continue reading

Disclaimer: I didn't queue up for my bowl of Fish Slice Soup. But I waited patiently for 30 minute while munching on my Ah Tai Chicken Rice and drinking my Iced Cold Barley Drink while my sister lined up for the soup.I asked her, if it's worth it... She said she would have done it again?! in the heat! And to prove how much she enjoyed it, she finished all the soup... with nothing left for me while I trying to get her dessert! Not even one mouthful of soup left! Sliced Fish Soup ($4) has a really delicate flavour and the fish is fresh with good texture. If you prefer, you can requested to add "milk" for a more white creamy broth. But personally, I just prefer the way it is!Jin Hua Fish Head Beehoon is worth the wait if you love fish. Just be patient or maybe you buy a drink or shaved ice dessert from next stall that will cool you down while you wait! continue reading

After having our tea break at one of the cafes around Duxton area, my friend & I decided to have dinner at Maxwell Food Centre since we were nearby! Maxwell Food Centre is pretty popular as you can find a few famous food stalls there and one of them is Jin Hua Fish Head Bee Hoon. There was already a long queue when we arrive and it did not went away even after we left the place. We queued for around 15 minutes and while queuing, our order was taken at the same time. Efficient! This bowl of fish bee hoon is the best I have ever tasted and it was totally worth queuing for. The fish was thick and soft and they gave a reasonable number of fish slices. The milky broth tasted just right. My friend & I literally finish up the whole bowl! However, the food centre is not properly ventilated and it was really hot, the both of us sweated like crazy! Even so, it will not stop me from coming back for more! continue reading

Their is another hawker stall that attracts a lot of crowd during lunch hour. As usual, I gave it a try since it has been featured on press media. They have both the milk and no-milk version. I gave the one with milk a try and I find the soup relatively bland. It wasn't exactly flavorful like how fish soup will be. The milk added was a little too excessive, and the noodles lack the chewiness as it was a tad too soft. Worse thing is, the queue takes quite long. Celine Chiam continue reading
