The outlet is located at a rather rundown building behind Orchard OG. The dining in area is quite limited and seats about 30 people in most in a long table and the rest at the counter. The place is packed and we are more or less squeezed between others in the long table. One may feel hot as I could barely feel any aircon flowing through while sitting there. The menu is a quite worn out book. Iced tea is served free flow here and one helps yourself to the jars of tea on the table. There is various condiments and cutlery on the table too. It is a no frills restaurant, and service is simple and fast. Hiyashi Chuka ($14)Chinese style noodles (Soy sauce/ Sesame Sauce)It is actually cold ramen, served in a choice of soy sauce or sesame sauce. The cold ramen is topped with shredded fried egg, cucumber sticks, shredded ham, shredded crabstick and lettuce. Mixs it with the sesame sauce, the dish is quite a pick me up and refreshing especially during a hot day.M has set A which comes with shoyu ramen and gyoza. The set costs $16.Shoyu Ramen ($12 ala carte)Soy sauce soup noodlesIt looks simple and tastes falvourful.GyozaI like it that the skin is quite thin and crispy. Inside the gyoza, it is filled with juicy and tasty minced meat filling.Overall the food tastes not bad, but it is not a place for relaxing. It is more like a eat and go place. continue reading

Ohsho Japanese Restaurant is a cheap and cheerful Chinese-style Japanese fast food restaurant chain specialising in classic Chinese dishes as fried Japanese dumplings (Gyoza) and noodles (Ramen). We are upset that the fried gyoza did not come to the table on sizzling cast iron pan.Lovers of egg-based dishes will surely love Ohsho's Ramen.Although I am a fan of Japanese food, both of my mother and me really don't quite like Ohsho because the chef is way too generous with the salt making all the food are very salty, but tasty for my girlfriend.Lastly, I would like to comment the staff was very attentive and the views were amazing because you can see many pretty girls walking passed by this restaurant. continue reading

It looks like a very normal home-made type of salad but this is much better than I expected. There is a tinge of shoyu taste in the thousand island dressing, making it sweet, sour and salty at the same time. The potato mash is lovely; greens are crunchy. Definitely a good appetizer to start your meal with. This is the pan-fried version. Plenty of juicy meat filling in them. Dip them in the chilli-vinegar dressing that the shop provides - simply yummy! This deep fried version strongly surpasses the pan-fried ones in taste. I thought these would taste super oily and greasy but they turned out to be light and really crispy. A must-order!This has become my all-time favourite fried rice now. Nothing fanciful - just fried rice with pork, egg and spring onions. Surprising thing is that the dish is so full of flavours. It reminds me of my granny's fried rice when she used to cook for me when I was little so this dish definitely brought back some childhood memories.A very standard bowl of ramen with plenty of cabbage and a few slices of chashu. Ramen is not their forte for sure as the broth doesn't taste natural like RamenPlay's one that is simmered with pork bones, etc. This is similar to our local mui fan i.e. seafood and vegetables with gravy poured over rice. Very hearty portion I must say and it was served piping hot which I like. Taste wise, it's similar to what you get from most tze-char stalls so nothing amazing to rave about. To enjoy wholesome Jap-style Chinese food at a lower fraction of the price in the heart of Orchard Road, this could be the next big thing in town. Try their gyozas, salad and fried rice. Simply yummy! continue reading

The bf works at centrepoint and I have heard him rave non-stop about the Japanese eateries in Cuppage for months on end. This particular outlet--Gyoza no Ohsho has a very authentic japanese layout with counter seats and few tables, a little bit like the kind you see in Tokyo where busy office workers basically just eat and leave. The place sells an assortment of fried rice, gyozas and ramen and are known for great tasting food at affordable prices. The bf comes here every monday to take their bento set for take away and the shop has different lunch sets each day. The day we went, it was offering a fried rice set with fried chicken and 3 gyoza on the side and another bowl of ramen, all for $11 nett! I didnt really want ramen initially but had wanted to order the gyoza and fried chicken but realised this was probably the better option for variety. If you follow my blog kopidiem.wordpress.com you would know how we love Japanese food and I can vouch for the quality of gyoza and chicken karage here. Its really the best we ever had in Singapore! The gyoza has a very juicy and fragrant filling, size is just nice and i really love how one side is pan-fried to perfection without it being oily at all. The same goes for the chicken, its fried yet you do not get the oil in the mouth taste at all... you don't even feel sinful eating it! lol. However, if you had to choose a main I would rather you take the fried rice than the ramen. I find the ramen very forgettable (shio and shoyu ramen tasted almost similar) but the fried rice is fragrant with a small pieces of meat and lots of eggs in it. I would love to just go there for a full 2 servings of gyoza! continue reading

When I crave something salty and oily, I head to Gyoza No Ohsho during lunch time. Their $11 lunch set is really worth the money because my stomach feels like it's exploding after I finish everything.I'm not sure if this is part of the ramen chain but Japan but the stuff are pretty good (for the price anyway). The lunch and dinner sets are only available on weekdays, you're stuck with ala carte on weekends. My favorite lunch set is the half-ramen, half-fried ramen, three gyoza, fried chicken and salad (yucks). They rotate the rice dish, sometimes it's fried rice (my favorite) and sometimes it's curry rice (not my favorite). The dinner set's the same stuff but with an added $5. There's all-you-can-drink cold water which is very useful because the soup gets salty halfway eating. Ramen and friendsFor the lunch set, there's different type of soup bases. I usually go for miso or salt because it feels more authentic.Taste-wise, it's pretty good for its price (like I said above). For $11, it's usually one bowl of ramen from other airconditioned restaurants (I'm looking at you Santouka.). Heck, even the stall itself sells one bowl of ramen for more than $11 each. The fried rice is always good. Just the right amount of oil and salt. I love the fried chicken (karaage) but it feels like it's been refried one too many times. The gyoza is just refrigerated dumplings that have plastic-like skin.SettingThe restaurant is just half a stall inside Cuppage Plaza. Like in Japan, there are counter-facing seats and tables. Staff is attentive since the place is so small. Food comes very fast since they are half done by the time you order. If you're ever in the neighborhood during weekday lunchtime, the lunch set is a good choice for relatively cheap ramen and will make you full. continue reading
