First timer at Tampopo at Orchard. Q wasn't long as was late lunch then. We ordered deluxe shab pro and roasted chicken with cold noodles. It was reminded serving take about 25mins. Not sure maybe it require to hand made. So we additional ordered one more scope cake for desert at first. The cake is sponge with fruit topping, taste is normal to me as not a cake lover. Finally our noodles arrive. The noodles is firm and spongy with Japanese sauce. Very well done and I personally like the soup of deluxe pro, it is warm and thick and taste so shiok. The environment is very well decorated but modern Japanese style. Overall is nice experience. continue reading

It's not as cheap as Waraku but it promises better quality and wider variety of dishes than similar family restaurants such as Ootoya. Having been to this place for Nth times, the food is still as delicious as I remember. For full review and pics, visit www.dairycream.blogspot.comThe 黒豚トリフチャーハン Black Pig Truffled Fried Rice ($18.80) has a relatively starchy texture compared to usual Chinese fried rice as Japanese short-grained pearl rice is used. Perfumed with the umami fragrance in a good way that complemented the flavors of the pork, this ugly but tasty dish is a rare gem amidst the zenith of wayward uses of truffle these days. continue reading

It was a rainy day and people I was talking to were discussing about ramen, making me hungry with craving for ramen, hence decided to pop over to Takashimaya's Tampopo to satiate it. We started with a small platter of Salmon Sashimi (SGD$15.00) - quite fresh, bouncy and succulent. I love my salmon sashimi anytime, anywhere - as long as it is not limp or unfresh. We tried the Kani Ramen basically translated into Spicy Crab Ramen (SGD$11.50), which was not spicy at all. The thick, sticky broth was kind of bland, and the squiggly yellow ramen noodles were a little too soft for our liking. There was no lusciousness of crab flavor, but nonetheless, it filled the stomach and the amount of (faux?) crab meat + shimeiji mushroom was generous.Time for my personal favorite - Black Pork Ramen (SGD$10.50 for small portion) was sumptuous as ever - with the thin slice of black pork sweet and succulent. The soup was awesome as well, rich but not too creamy. The noodles were springy / bouncy the way I enjoyed it. If you order the huge portion, it comes with the flavored egg as well, enhancing the overall satisfaction level. For full review and more photographs, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/12/lunch-at-tampopo-japanese-restaurant.html continue reading

One of my friend was craving for Jap food and we settled on having dinner at Tampopo! This is my first time here and I felt like having ramen. Incidentally, my friends were all craving for ramen and we ordered their Signature Black Pig Shabu ramen! The bowl consist of slices of black pig with bamboo shoots and lettuce. It is then topped with lots of chilli flakes and spring onions. It looked super spicy but thankfully, the spiciness is quite mild. I like that the pork bone broth is flavourful and the noodles were al dente! However, I did not especially enjoyed the thin slices of black pig. I guess I prefer the thicker kind of meat. Anyway, they offer a wide range of items on their menu and I will be back! continue reading
