Located in a coffee shop in Hougang, literally across the bus interchange, near the xin wang cafe is Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat. I normally frequent the tian wai tian at ang mo kio, but since I was going bowling at jForte my friends decided to grab dinner here on a rainy sunday night. At around 730pm, the place was packed. there was a queue to place zichar orders. All the tables were occupied and you would've to wait quite a while for an empty table. Even when we got a table, it took another 10-20 minutes before the table got cleared and cleaned. My recommendation is make a reservation, so that you have a clean table and the reserved tables are on the other side of the coffee shop which is more airy and windy. I say at the side facing the bus interchange, there wasn't much air crossflow.1. Fish head steamboatWe ordered a medium and my friends complained that they coudln't find much fish in the steamboat. There were 5 of us and yes some pieces were miniscule and some were half the size of an iphone 6S. The fish was decent, it wasn't MSG ladden as I didn't feel too thirsty after the meal. The soup was served with vegetables and seaweed. I loved the seasweed. The soup was refillable, but it is self-service.2. Prawn Paste ChickenTheir prawn paste chicken never fail to meet my expectations. I love them! They are so crispy on the exterior and juicy and tender on the inside. They aren't too oily but they sure are sinful! The chicken wings are also pretty plump.3. Egg FuyongThe egg was pretty oily but they were generous with the ingredients, lots of prawns, carrots and some meat in the egg. The aroma of the egg was pleasant and even though we ordered a small portion, it was more than enough for the 5 of us.4. Salted egg porkThis was the only disappointing dish we ordered. The pork was dry and I could barely taste the salted egg. The salted egg was also barely visible on the pork. Skip this dish5. Sambal Kang KongThis was drenched in oil! I ended up washing the kang kong in a bowl of fish soup before eating it as there was just too much sambal oil on the vegetables. For 5 of us, we paid $79, at $16 per pax, our tummies are filled with zi char food and we were all satisfied. But I'll definitely go for sweet and sour pork rather than salted egg pork the next time round.Overall : don't expect any service, since you're not pay any service charge or GST, make a reservation before heading down, and do give the fish head steamboat a try. continue reading

We had tian wai Tian fishhead steamboat for dinner. Being a teochew, I prefer promfet to other fish in the steamboat. The promfet is quite fresh & chopped into pieces for easy eating. The soup has a tinge of ginger taste & there are huge chunks of yam & cabbage as well as a bit of seaweed. I must say the soup is very flavourful. The soup is refillable just in case you need more. However, we are both very thirsty after the meal. We wonder how much ajinomoto is added to the soup   On the whole, we still enjoy the steamboat. Of course, 黄埔庆鱼头卢 still remains as number 1 in our hearts ;) continue reading

After fetching nephew from his piano class , we pass by tian wai tian fishhead steamboat restaurant located at Kim San Leng Eating House, 1382 Serangoon Road, Serangoon, so decided to dine in there. We ordered the fish head steamboat, some other dishes to go along. I like the fish soup base, the fish is fresh and tender, and the soup can be refilled. They are generous with the filling of vegetables etc. continue reading

My auntie is a great fan for this Tian Wai Tian Fishhead steamboat at Serangoon, beside the Serangoon Boardway Studio and so she will often dates us to this place for dinner...The fishhead steamboat with generous pieces of fish in the nice, sweet and fragrant soup base.. you can always ask them for a refill on the soup..Chilli prawn, this is pretty normal, not much taste. We also ordered a plate of fried kalian and prawn rolls. The vegetables is normal and the prawn rolls are crispy with well marinated prawn/minced pork fillings.Sweet and Sour pork ribs, this is quite nice, the pork ribs is tender and the sauce is nice. This place can be quite crowded at times and a little difficult to find parking lots. continue reading

My colleague drove us for dinner after work on last Friday. We were supposed to drove to JB for seafood but we can't knock off on time so.. we decided to settle our dinner in Singapore then. He brought us the famous teochew fishhead steamboat located at 1382 Serangoon Road. I was doubtful when he told me how good is the soup base until i really tried it. The place was full house and we need to search our seats. We even need to walk into their kitchen to get our orders ordered. The staffs are superb busy serving and no time to entertain the clients. So in the end, the staff open a table for us behind the shop. We were like VIP!Our table is middle of the lorong!.If you are expecting for good services, please do not visit them because they are too busy to attend to customers. Customers will need to walk into the kitchen to look for the lady boss to place an order. This is the first time i had my dinner such way.It is one of the best teochew fishhead steamboat in Singapore based on reviews through social media. The soup base plenty of savoury fish, the fish is fresh and the meat is soft, juicy and tender. They are served in charcoal-grilled and aluminium steamboat pots. We can top up the soup but we called for twice but they did not top up for us Guess we are far apart from the shop because we are having our dinner middle of the back alley! We ordered Hae Zhou which has the combination of chunks of water chestnuts.Water chestnuts give lots of crunchy taste to the dish. This is a recommendation dish from reviews and i saw them on almost all the tables that night. So you can imagine how many hundreds or thousands of plate were sold for this particular dish on a day itself?Vegetables are in our list as well.Czzar style of working really opens our appetite of eating as well.We also ordered tofu with prawn and special sauce which is also used to serve crabs. I love the softness and tender of japanese tofu with the sauce. Dinner was simple and nice. Definitely a good place to recommend for big group to have Czzar style. The steamboat soup base was fantastic except that the service was not that ideal. We need to self-service a bit because they are not going to bother you at all. They are busying rushing out the orders. One point that i want to highlight is that the food servings are quite fast within 20 minutes. This is because we ordered the common dishes as other tables. So people if you guys are dropping by for dinner and want to have the foods are fast enough to display on your table, you know what you should do Sorry for the not so sharp photos. All photos taken using my iPhone 4s. As u can see back alley has no much lights and we can only rely on the street lamps. It was a good experience having the table set up at the centre of the alley and people walking pass and looking at our food. Total spend for the dinner was around S$48++ not exceeding S$50 for 3 of us. Overall foods are good but not the services though. So don't expect much of their services when you decided to go for their foods. One thing to take note is that once all the foods are served, customers are required to foot the bill first before they can enjoy the foods. continue reading
