It seems that I'm craving for ramen like 90% of the time. This time I went to Ajisen Ramen at Junction 8 because the outlet here seems to be more peaceful than elsewhere. Got their ramen sets which came with the drinks, where are pretty much standard. My buddy got himself the Chicken Teriyaki Ramen Set ($13.90) for which he picked the fried cuttlefish as his side dish. This ramen is dry but the teriyaki sauce tasted delicious, not too salty but did gave the firm springy ramen a finishing edge. The rest tasted not bad either. I got myself the Kumamoto Ramen Set ($14.90) which I selected the California maki as my side. This ramen is one of ther best since Ajisen was founded in Kumamoto in the first place. The soup was flavourful on its own. The California maki may need improvement on it's very miniature size but other than that, everything was good! Compared to many other ramen restaurants out there, Ajisen serve thicker noodles than usual which is one of the things I like. Besides, it's convenience and casual setting always make me going back during the times when I don't want to try anything new. A perfect place for family casual dinner, great for all ages! continue reading

I went with my long time friend to Ajisen Ramen for lunch. We both ordered our own ramen and also got two sides to share, the ageshi tofu and fried chicken. For my ramen, I ordered the spicy miso ramen ($11). The ramen comes with half of an egg, char siu and condiments like black fungus and spring onions. The miso soup taste quite nice and I felt that having spicy miso soup makes the taste of the soup more robust instead of just having it original without chili. The char siu is not as tender as what I had from other ramen places but still passable. I particularly love the noodles here as it is quite springy in texture and not soggy. The sides are quite alright. I love the tofu more than the chicken as the chicken wasn't warm when it was served to us and it has too much batter and very little chicken flesh. continue reading

Ordered this Paiku Ramen Set Meal as the Paiku Ramen is a chef recommended dish. It comes with a Paiku Ramen, a drink and one side dish at $14.90 excluding GST and service charge. The total cost will be around $17.50 after the inclusive of the additional charges. The Paiku Ramen Soup had a pleasant aroma and it was filled with the sweetness of the coconut milk. The soup has made the soft and tender Ramen more tasty and smooth as well. However, there were not much visible porks on the pork ribs and the visible porks were pretty dry although they were well marinated. For the drink, I have chosen Ice Lemon Tea over Green Tea despite it was refillable. For the side dish, I have chosen fried chicken cutlet and I'm glad that it was not a wrong decision. The chicken cutlet was very crispy although it was very oily as well. The meat was soft and tender, it went well with the sweet sauce given. The ambience of the restaurant was pretty good due to the dimmed lighting. However, I caught some of the staffs chit chatting while working. continue reading

Food should not be too complex. Ajisen Ramen serves up acceptable ramen at pocket-friendly prices. I liked my ramen, with the bean sprouts very very crunch and the soup broth rich and delicious. The carrots were also surprisingly fresh and the soft-boiled egg was very well done. I will certainly be back for more for a quick and fuss-free lunch set that is not painful on the pocket. continue reading

Ordered scallop ramen set which come with choice of side dish and a drink. Portion of scallop given was generous! Soup was delicious, I finished every drop of it! If you like your ramen with spice, you can always ask for chilli oi and chilli pepper. Ramen came with half an egg and tou gei too. I ordered the white fish side dish, which was a little bland but the mayo and chilli sauce was enough flavor after dipping in them. they also have gyoza, octopus and many others to choose from! Added a hokkaido milk pudding to my order and was $1 cheaper as I had a ramen set. This milk pudding is heavenly and I urge everyone to try it! Entire meal was really satisfying and worth the price, and I was very full from it. Yums! Service on the other hand was rather lousy as there are too little waitresses and waiters and the place was busy. Took very long for our water to come and had to ask a few times to get my chilli oil. There was also an arrogant waiter there whose main aim was to get people seated but ignored their needs after that. continue reading
