Introduction
Stepping into a Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room is like being transported instantaneously to the lively cosmopolitan city of Hong Kong. Service staff bustling to and from patrons, taking orders and serving up freshly prepared, steaming hot food and beverages amidst the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and crisp toast. In harmonizing contrast to this flurry of activity are the feature wall panels of soothing earthy shades with complementing furniture of solid tables and chairs or invitingly plush sofa seats, all of which serve to decorate the well-lit and airy alcove. continue reading

Wan chai hong kong cafe serves a variety of hong kong fare such as chinese noodles, fried rice, sandwiches EtcThis was my first time dining at this restaurant. Once seated, you will be given an order form to place your order and then proceed to the cashier to order the food. I decided to order a beef egg rice and a side dish of Fried Tofu with briased mincepork. The beef egg rice was served warm, in a small bowl. The rice is at the bottom and on top of it lies slices of beef with a runny egg yolk. The top portion of the rice was drenched in the sauce, the beef was soft and not dry at all, it was cooked pretty well. In my opinion, the best way to enjoy this dish is to mix everything together, so that the flavour will be balanced and you will be able to savour the goodness in every mouth. For the fried tofu, the skin was incredibly crispy and the inside was soft. The mincepork was flavourful and quite delicious too! Overall, i enjoy my experience dining here and will frequent this restaurant again. continue reading

Ordered the chicken baked rice here and it was a little disappointing for the taste. The chicken was a bit burned and the carrots were a bit hard and uncooked. Cheese were alot though so it will be good for cheese lovers! The gst and service charge is included in the price in the menu though. Tried the wanton noodles as well and it wasn't really very authentic hk food. Soup that came with the bake rice tasted good though with carrots, wintermelon and mushroom inside.  continue reading

As of 2013, Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room is now 12 years old since its opening. In all that buzz and fuzz, the cafe mimics the cosmopolitan city of Hong Kong. They served the food lightning-fast, but it took quite awhile to make payment.Sadly, the concept of a 'tea room' is nowhere near its title. I felt uncomfortable eating in the restaurant because there were no partitions for privacy. With the open-concept restaurant near Daiso Japan in IMM, anyone who passes by would naturally want to take a look at what you're eating. The menu doesn't clearly state that payment must be made when you order, and it is not surprising to spot a queue at the counter. If you're there, it's a MUST to try their Noodles!I ordered a bowl of Shrimp Wanton Noodles, while my dining partners ate Dumping Soup Noodles (水饺面)for SGD4.50 each. One can't really tell the difference between the two.Take a closer look and you will find that the Dumplings are larger in size as compared to the Shrimp Wanton. The fillings of the Shui Jiao consisted of minced meat and chopped vegetables. The wanton's filling is made of minced pork, coarsely diced shrimp, finely minced ginger, finely minced onions, sesame oil and soy sauce. I can't help but find a close similarity with the Italian tortellini or Jewish kreplach. We also ordered Fried Brinjal with pork floss for SGD3.00. It was crispy, delicious and fragrant all at once! I would definitely recommend OpenRicers to try it.Recommended Tips1. Go really early, avoid lunch peak hours and dinner peak hours. We spotted a really long queue. The entrance of the restaurant is at the Daiso Japan's side.2. Avoid bringing bulky bags because there isn't really any space for you to place your belongings.3. The lighting there is great to take good pictures of your food! continue reading

As its name tells, Wan Chai had the concept of Hong Kong Restaurant theme. The layout and atmosphere was simple and friendly-familiar. Went over there for our dessert, their reputation was quite good always. Menu was not that extensive but varieties were there. Neighbourhood traditional Chinese-style dessert, they were both thickly sweet. Classic bowl was hardly found nowadays, I recalled that I saw it before at my home when I was still a naïve child. Red bean soup was added little ginkgo nuts inside, nicely mushy blended. Barley dried beancurd soup was naturally decent, feeling like home-cooked. The price was around $3.00 per bowl, we shared among each other. continue reading
