fried oysteromelette $5.50: Because fried oysteromelette tends to be rather oily, I requested for less oil for my order. It was still oily but less oily. The taste was pretty decent as well. The eggs were very flavourful and savoury. The oysters were fresh too. I liked that there were more eggs than starch used. The consistency of the starch was just right too. Overall, this was good.  continue reading

While we thought that we probably had to squeeze with other patrons in the food court during dinner, we were wrong when we first stepped into food republic of west gate. There were simply more than 20 over tables for us to choose from. Perhaps the crowd had focus on individual specialized restaurants instead.Hokkien Prawn Mee took about 10 minutes to be prepared. While waiting, one get to see the live show cases of the chef preparing the orders through the misty transparent glass of the kitchen. As what the caution wordings suggested, try not to lean towards or touch the panel as the surface was hot.Just show your safra or passion card to enjoy a 10% off your meal. My plate of Hokkien Prawn Mee originally cost $4.50. The proportional of yellow mee and white bee hoon seemed unusal which cause the overall appearance seems plain due to too much of white Bee Hoon was added. Plate of hokkien Mee came with 3 prawns, they were fresh however, I felt that the prawn stock was rather lacking and tasted quite bland as a whole. Perhaps a stronger taste and more yellow noodles would have make a better meal, a better presentation. Cost: $4.30 continue reading

Decided to return to this stall to try their carrot cake, to see if it was as good as the char kway teow which i had last week. Wanted to order yin and yang, but i think either thanks to inability to communicate clearly or the person's listening skills, i got the white carrot cake ($4). LOLAnyway the carrot cake is nice but does not have any wow factor. For the price, the portion is a small but i guess this is Food Republic so cannot expect too much. The carrot cake is charred in some parts and perfectly cooked in other parts. Still i think i had skip this the next time and just go for the char kway teow. continue reading

There was a newly open Foodcourt at Westgate basement, though the foodcourt was small as compared to neighbouring shopping mall, there was quite a number of stalls selling local fares.I ordered the Char Kway Teow. The wait for the order was quite a while as the chef freshly cooked when ordered. The Char Kway Teow had a nice "Wok" aroma and "Wok" taste. The Kway Teow was nicely fried with slightly spingy feel and not too oily. There was also chinese chives, chinese sausage and cockles which added to the sweetness and savouriness of the Char Kway Teow. continue reading
