Blackbird takes flight from a café to an expanded bistro and bar, with new exquisite menu offerings under its wing – curated by Chef Ken Tan, duly respected in the industry for his culinary skills despite being hearing impaired.

Perched in the same spot on Handy Road next to The Cathay, the space now seats
100 people comfortably with large tables to
fit parties of eight. Perfect for before or after-movie dinner dates. Above the bar Bar food goes beyond simple appetizers here, with fusion must-tries like Balsamic Tuna ($12), Crispy Pork Belly ($10) and Seared Foie Gras ($16) starting our meal on a right note. Our pick of the three: The tuna. Seared perfectly, the tuna steak comes with a bed of mango salsa, which adds a pleasant tang together with the balsamic glaze.

Miso for mains But if you’re here just for mains, go for the Miso Cod Fish ($32) – a dish we’ll stand by completely. Silky smooth on the inside with a sweet crisp top, the baked cod fish is cooked with miso and served with parsnip puree, sautéed baby spinach and a tempura courgette flower.

Red meat lovers are not forgotten. Former New Zealand-inspired dishes such as the Savannah Grass Fed Angus Beef Tenderloin ($49.90/250g) remain on the menu, though it failed to impress after that divine cod. New-Zealand imported Coffee Besides signature cocktails like Plantation Mojito ($15 during Happy Hour) and heathy juices like Detox ($12), Blackbird Bistro & Bar also brews up aromatic cups of coffee. As the only importers of Havana Coffee from New Zealand, coffee lovers ought to swing by for a cuppa.
