“More greens, less fries” is the new direction that House at Dempsey has taken recently, to provide diners with healthier takes to its well-loved classics, so as to keep up with the clean eating trend. On top of their gluten-free dessert, salad and pasta, we tried a lineup of new dishes, which were largely inspired by warm Mediterranean and Asian influences. Tasty, wholesome, with their secret ingredient – comfort – kept throughout.
Instead of fries, the tender Baby Back Ribs ($29, first image) grilled in a flavourful glaze of Chinese five-spice and soy sauce now comes with a side of broccoli and sugar snaps, served atop a light and silky celeriac puree. But as fans of quinoa, we stood biased towards the Blackened Snapper ($25, above) that was topped generously with the superfood amongst grilled cauliflower, more sugar snaps and kale.
From Vegan and Gluten-free to Vegetarian
For those who seek both vegan and gluten-free fare, the Warm Mushroom and Tofu Salad ($17, above) is a choice starter. Crispy tofu cubes are nestled amongst a mix of sautéed mushrooms and shallots for crunch, before wafu dressing lifts the salad up with its aromatic notes. A heavier option would be the Lean, Green Pasta ($22), which comprises gluten-free fusilli pasta tossed with mounds of greens: Asian herb pesto, asparagus, French beans and broccoli.
Desserts-wise, dietary restrictions aren't a problem here. Get the Grilled Gluten-free Almond Cake paired with a divine scoop of Salted Caramel ice cream ($12.50, left) to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Vegetarians, this one’s for you. House’s new Wild Rice Mushroom Risotto ($25, above) is a healthy yet hearty mash of pomegranate seeds, zucchini, carrots and two dollops of sour cream. And here’s a fun fact – wild rice isn’t rice at all, but seeds from an aquatic grass. It also enhances your digestion and gives a great boost of protein and nutrients.
Overall, House's new menu is healthy indulgence at its best, with more fresh greens and better grains for a more balanced meal.
