Deciding to hunt for good herbal bak kut teh, we headed for Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh at Rangoon area, since it was recommended to be good - and an authentic old brand's name, situated in a coffee shop settings.The Herbal Kut Teh (SGD$6.00) with pork ribs was at the top of their recommendation, and served in small claypots. The Herbal Kut Teh (SGD$6.00) with pork ribs was at the top of their recommendation, and served in small claypots. It had a clear broth that was rather greasy, nothing like the darker, more murky herbal bak kut teh I have eaten at other places. Flavour was light, tinged with herbal aroma; the pork ribs were tender and had a very clean, pale look.

Finally, the bowl of Mixed Innards (SGD$7.00) - consisting of pork liver and kidney in a pot of their herbal soup and mini claypot. This was succulent and tasty, infused with the delicious flavour of the herbal soup it was cooked in.

Chance upon this place while on route to pek kio hawker centre. The area, there is at least 3 BKT stall now, the other being ng ah sio and founder bkt along rangoon road. Was hoping heng heng serve the herbal style soup instead of pepper. Once seated, the staff will bring on the chilli padi, cutlery, you tiao and giam cai. . Not a big tea fan but we had kungfu tea (tie guan yin), rare to have such offering now. The soup served contains 2 pork rib type "long gu", the soup felt like a hybrid, in between pepperish and herbal. Did not really like this "in between" taste though. The soup did not have other additions as well. But still eating Bak Kut Teh in a run down coffeeshop still has its charms, in this case, the company beats the quality of food. It seems they are also famous for steam fish but it cost up to $30 per fish serving.
