It was my birthday and what better than French for the one who loves anything French - culture, music, books, movies, history and yes, food!I loved the secluded setting of this classy, elegant French restaurant - the indoors exude old-world charm while the outdoors lends serenity from nature, with its gently flowing waterfalls and rocky walls. The ambience was totally tranquil, marvelously enchanting and romantic. My main course - Black Cod came next - another buttery smooth delicacy but with the light, fishy succulence instead of the heavy richness of the appetiser. The lobster bisque that graced the fish was awesome - it was the icing on the cake! The Venison Loin was also served - another tender chunks of savoury delicacy that sprang to life in the mouth. The venison loin was chewy and boosted of the richness of beef, but came with a slightly gamey hint - subtle, easily masked with the lovely sauce and cream it was served with. For more detailed information and photos, do grace the following:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/01/dinner-at-au-petit-salut.html

We had dinner at this French restaurant located in Dempsey. It was fully packed and boy were we glad we had made reservations. Appetizers were escargots, and French onion soup. Both tasty. For mains, we had steak. Nicely done in medium rare.Dessert was fantastic, I loved their Profiteroles!Service was great, and the ambience was dark and romantic. It was our wedding anniversary, and the service staff took the trouble to prepare a slice of cake, with "happy anniversary" written on the plate in chocolate sauce. A very nice touch indeed!Portions are fair. Their executive set lunch is also worth a try.

The restaurant features Chef Paul Longworth’s strengths on contemporary French cuisine, savour signature dishes like the cassoulet of duck leg confit, Black Angus prime rib served with garlic and shallots confit and red wine braised Beef cheeks are just the few masterfully crafted dishes by the chef.Pork rillettes, Violet mustard & sageThe Pork Rillettes were traditionally made with fatty pork belly or pork shoulder, shredded, seasoned and cooked slowly over low heat until very tender. The pork rillettes was garnished with violet mustard and sage, created a good rillettes for a starter.Sautéed duck foie gras, hazelnuts and Mirabelle plums Foie gras is one of the best delicacies in the French cuisine; we love the soft texture of the foie gras encased by the slight crisp and charred exterior. The richness and piquant of the foie gras immediately bursts out in the mouth and nothing but every bite was heavenly delicious. French duck leg confit, pear, butternut pumpkin & vanilla puree and VerjuiceOne of the chef’s signature dish, we truly enjoyed the crispiness of the duck skin and the flavoursome of the meat, dabbed with butternut pumpkin and vanilla puree made the dish truly impressive, both in the taste and presentation.Read the full review at www.ieatandeat.com

It was our first anniversary yesterday, and we decided to settle for somewhere at Dempsey Hill to celebrate because of its romantic ambiance (we assumed). In the end, my bf reserved two seats at Au Petit Salut, which specializes in French cuisine, for it's 3 course lunch set meal. The meal sets us to about $36++ for each, totaling $80 odd.It was actually gloomy yesterday, and we could have opted for seats outside.Didn't imagine that the weather would be rather cooling, since these few days have been very very warm.Well anyway, sitting inside was not bad too.I believe reservations should be done if you want to dine here. When I was there for my lunch meal, the whole place was nearly fully-seated.For starters, my bf had the escargots served on bone marrow.ERGH, didn't fancy the escargot cause I can't appreciate them, but my bf said it was rather good, so don't quote me.For me, I had (you know, I had to refer to my photos to see what I ordered. Shows how unimpressive the dish was to me lol) saladThe salad was pretty average, but I love the mushrooms and the bread toast in it.Gobbled most of them up, while sharing most of the salad with my bf hahaMy steak was ordered in medium, and I think it was done rather well. But the problem is that it was difficult to chew.Had to chew really long, and somehow the blood from the steak had this smell that doesn't make it taste fresh.Anyway, the mash potato was AWESOME!My bf said it tasted like it's made from powder, but I don't care, I just LOVE IT. Haha, can't believe I like the "cheapest" thing out of the plate, oh well.My bf ordered the snapper meal, and it was really good (Argh, my choices are really bad). The snapper along with prawn emulsion was flavorful! Please do not order the chocolate creme brulee!I left more than half of it untouched.I just don't like the chocolate cream they served I advise you to order the tofu cheesecake which my bf ordered. It was delicious!Should have ordered the choux bun, my bf was reprimanding me about not going with my choices and blindly following people's recommendation -.-Of course must see what people comment right.Read a few blogs that recommended choux bun, but at that moment, I wanted to try the creme brulee.Eh, too bad.Doubt I'll be heading back again to eat their choux bun (While such an experience was good for an anniversary, I can't comment very positively about the food.I guess I'm not good at choosing lol

The restaurant exudes a warm and romantic vibe. Diners are greeted with lush greenery as they make their way to the entrance of the restaurant. Alfresco dining is available. It is cooling but I am not sure if there will be mosquitoes though. Flaked smoked Haddock, beetroot, Hibiscus puree and Ko Giku flowersThis dish was really good. The haddock was supposed to be salty and it was balanced well with the light flavour of the beetroot. I do not like salty food but I could tell that the tastebuds enjoyed the company of the haddock. Lol.Sautéed duck foie gras, Balsamic braised onions, Aioli & pea shootsSlightly crisp on the outside, the foie gras had a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The presentation of this dish was minimalistic and I loved how there was a cute pea shoot standing on the top of the foie gras. Fillet of Barramundi, salsify braised in red wine and roasted mushrooms & SamphireI could not taste any red wine but it was okay as I am not a fan of alcoholic drinks. The mushrooms had a "crunchy" texture to it yet it was really juicy inside. Barramundi was very tender but it was a pity that the skin was not crispy. There were some fine bones in it too which made eating a little difficult since the lightings were dim. It was tasty, nevertheless.400 days grain fed Wagyu rib eye,‘Pommes Mousseline’ and red wine sauceThe BF had this. The potato puree was really delightful and I loved it. The beef, served medium rare, had a uniform consistency. The toppings on top (corns and veg) did not seem to complement the beef but thankfully they still tasted good.Polenta & olive oil cake, Mandarin and gingerbread mousse, vanilla ice creamI was having a hard time snapping shots for this dessert as there were not enough lights to capture a good shot and I did not want to use my flash. Thankfully, the vanilla ice-cream was extremely obedient and did not melt a single bit. Everything in this dessert complemented well with each other. Chocolate Crème BruléeThe surface was caramelized well and was topped with some chocolate balls. Even though the entire dessert only had the distinct chocolate taste, it did not overwhelm as the chocolate was not one of rich flavour. It was a sweet ending to our meal.Their set dinner is really affordable for a fine dining restaurant so if you have a budget on hand, you can try out Au Petit Salut.$88+ for set dinnerFor a complete review, visit: http://rachelays.blogspot.sg/2013/08/birthday-dinner-au-petit-salut.html
