When I first tried the ramen here, I was overwhelmed by the huge serving of ramen and the thick slices of char-siew in it. Needless to say, I couldn’t finish it on my own. However, recently I decided to hav it again and realized that the portions have shrunk! The ramen given was lesser and the slices of pork were not as thick. Hmmm, I wonder if it’s because many customers were not finishing their meals? Anyway, the noodles here are slightly thicker, but springy with a good bite. All three soup b

All three soup bases: Shoya, Shio and Miso are good though my preference would be the Shoya one as it is richer in taste.

I found this little Japanese ramen shop through online food reviews recently which highly recommend its ramen. There is only GST charge at this little restaurant, but the price you see on the menu is already inclusive of GST. You need to order & pay at the counter before you can be seated to wait for your ramen to be served. Since the signature ramen here is Miso Ramen - half portion ($10.50), & according to the cashier it is not as strongly flavoured as Shoyu Ramen, I decided to order this. My colleague ordered the Shoyu Ramen - half portion ($12.00) & we both decided to add an egg each to our ramen ($1.50 each). There wasn't a wide variety of choices in the restaurant as they only serve 3 types of ramen & 2 types of don. Guess it's a very traditional type of Japanese ramen shop......

Oh you must be thinking why we both ordered half portion only? Because I read reviews that the normal portion is huge & hence we didn't want to make ourselves so bloated.

My ramen was wonderful! The soup base wasn't very salty, in fact just right for me, & I almost finished the soup in the end! This is rare for me given that most Japanese soups are very salty to me hehe. The charsiew that came with the ramen was quite a big piece, very generous, & wow, it was really tender! I think it has been the best Japanese Miso Ramen that I have eaten so far? hehe and the half portion is just right for ladies I guess.

I will definitely visit this ramen place again if I have a craving for it during lunch, but must make sure I reach there before 12pm! ;)

Baikohken is always crowded during lunch time and finally the other day I got a chance to have lunch there. The food was not as fantastic as it seemed. The ramen were pricey, range from $10 to $20. I ordered the ramen with pork slices which costs $16. I felt the soup base and the pork were salty. The entire meal experience was just average.

i love japanese food, especially gyoza. i have no idea where it originates from, in china there is dumpling, japan there is gyoza. i simply love both. i normally dip my gyoza with the japanese shoya soya sauce. got a refreshing taste. the chinese dumpling normally goes with the vinegar and ginger. this store's dumpling is quite delicious!

The charsiew are tender and not too fat. And they're really very generous with their portion. They gave 5-6 slices of the charsiew and i was in for a treat! Ramen is curly and Q enough. Just the way i like my noodles. Shoyu soup base tasted robust with a nice aromatic flavour brought out by the soya sauce. The bamboo shoots were very disappointing here, the smell was abit overbearing and i do think they should have sliced it thinner. And their egg yolk wasn't runny enough.

Overall its a great bowl of shoyu ramen and definitely value for ramen. I will be back. =)

I am a japanese food lover but I am not really a ramen lover cos its rather difficult to find really nice ooishi ramen shop here in singapore unless you are in Japan. Anyway, I will still settle for ramen if i want to have some quick meal. I have tried their special ramen which is called butter and corn ramen! Rather special right? Well, I have quite high expectation for the texture of the noodles and I do like the texture of their noodles, not soft and soggy, rather 'Q'.

This is the butter and corn ramen which i ordered. Compare to other ramen shops, their noodles are nicer as it's more chewy and has the texture that doesn't make it too soft and soggy. While the char siew they give are big and nice as both meat and fats are well proportion. ie not too much meat or fats. Overall their noodles are nice and i'll go back again to have their noodles.

If you are looking for a refreshing dish, I would recommend their cold ramen! Normally, for Japanese food, the one that is served cold is their soba noodle that you have to dip in separate bowl of soy sauce. However, they served their ramen refreshing cold. There is shredded cucumber, shredded fried tofu, red ginger and 2 pieces of char siew which are also served cold. The soy sauce is already poured at the bottom of the bowl and it is mild to the taste.

Their ramen is also great. But I would recommend that you order with less salt since the normal one tastes really salty. According to my friend who introduced this place to me, the Japanese love to taste everything at the extreme. So if it is salty. It has got to be really salty. And usually for ladies, get the half serving would be sufficient since their portion is rather large. For those who look for even smaller portion of food, their char siew rice would be of the right size for you. There is generous spring onion and tender pork served on top of a small bowl of rice with mayo topping.

They served water for free. However, it is not the normal water that you drink. I taste either cincau or coffee in it. According to my friend, such drink is used to neutralize the saltiness of the ramen (especially if you don't order with less salt).

The service is also fine. They greet you as you enter the restaurant. They have quite an authentic ambiance. I suppose it's because this shop is directly opened by the restaurant in Japanese itself without franchising involved. They also give you stamp card where you get a stamp for every $10 purchase. You can redeem the card after 10 stamps for gyoza, charsiew don or a small bottle of beer.

The downside would be that you might have to queue up for seats during their busy weekend. I had to queue up to 9 pm before I got seats with my other 3 friends previously on a Saturday night. Also, if you are health conscious, I would no recommend too much on the gyoza and their bean sprouts. The last time I ate them, they were rather oily.

Overall, I will come back to this place again.
