I was excited about visiting this, as this marked the first time I would be trying Mediterranean food. We ordered the Red Shakshuka, which is the next must-try item aside from the pita, and topped it up with Feta Cheese at an extra $1. Shakshuka is a common Mediterranean breakfast dish that has eggs poached in a sauce made of tomato, peppers and other spices. It came along with a pita pocket on the side to dip into the dish. The taste of the sauce is similar to the traditional pasta bolognese sauce, with a hint of other flavours that comes with the other spices incorporated, but mostly tomato. It is appetising,as any tomato-based sauce would be. The Feta cheese was a nice contrast to the slightly-sour sauce and I would recommend you to add it in. There are other types of Shakshuka (White- feta cheese in place of eggs, Green - spinach as replacement) which you may be interested in ordering.

Red Shakshuka - $11.90

We also ordered the Sabich, which is one of their pita pocket offerings. The Sabich came with your choice of salad, hummus, eggplant and tahini (ground sesame paste) with tangy Amba (spiced mango sauce). The pocket was filled to the brim and what I liked was how the sauce gave it a zesty flavour.

Sabich- $11.90

In our excitement to order, we forgot that the Sabich did not include Falafel (deep fried ground chickpea patties) balls. Going to Pita Pan without trying the Falafel, especially since it was our first time eating Mediterranean, was unacceptable. So, we ordered the Full Pocket Meal to share and takeaway for dinner. I really liked the falafel. Though it was cold by dinner time, the entire thing still tasted absolutely delicious with the mix of flavours. The usage of spices to create the mix of flavour is similar to that of Indian cuisine, albeit using different spices.

Definitely a choice that is healthy, since it is fully vegetarian (but whether it is low in calorie count may be another separate matter given how spiced sauces are known to pack calories). The convenience of it all is a bonus as well. Service-wise, the staff could be a little more helpful with pointing us to the self-service counter and getting us glasses of water. It is worth a try, but otherwise, for the price and open setting, it might not be something you would want to go for often unless you are an avid Mediterranean food lover. Even then, there are plenty of restaurants around town where the fare can be had for the same price point in a better setting.

Came to Pita Pan, a Mediterranean bistro which offers salad, falafel and hearty Middle-East/Lebanese stews because I was craving for hummus. This is less like a restaurant at MBS and more like a fast food outlet as diners have to find their own seats and order from the counter (no signs stating that it was self-service). What was more hilarious was the servers at the salad counter told us to order at the cashier, but yet the cashier had been ignoring us as she was busy counting the cash.

What can we do but wait before they were ready to key in our orders? The HALF-POCKET SANDWICH ($7.90), was assembled gradually like a subway sandwich. First, half a pita bread was filled with three chickpea falafel. Then, pick all-you-want from the salad counter ( I chose nearly everything), and lastly the dressing (I opted for the tahini dressing also known as sesame paste).

The end result looked totally different from the menu but was very delicious, especially the golden-brown falafels. They had a crispy coating but were not too dry inside.

Instead of the Middle Eastern breakfasts, we had the Hummus with Mushrooms served with pita bread ($11.90). The bread version here was warm, soft and fluffy. The hummus here was better than Onaka's version because they are not chilled nor too salty. It was extra creamy with generous amount of mushroom toppings. Not quite sure how healthy this was but my tummy was satisfied!

Conclusion: Service aside, food was not too bad and portions are quite substantial. Unless they fine-tune the service here, I don't think eating here is any beneficial, especially for our mental health. For those who wish to check this out, bring your own water as they don't serve it.

The Red Shakshuka is basically a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, chili peppers, onions, often spiced with cumin. It is believed to have a Tunisian origin. And i must say.. it goes very well with the pita bread. The tomato-based sauce gives it a fresh and tangy flavour and eggs added provide fullness.

My other friends ordered the half pita which is a half pita bread with falafel in it and you are allowed to choose some salad to fill it up. The last time i went we were allowed to fill it up ourself (read:Squeeze as much as you can in it!) but now they actually assign the staff to do it. It was a miserable sandwich and when we were eating my friends were already joking about having a second helping of Mac's.

Will I go back? Yes.. for affordable food near the bayfront and its unique menu, but not on a regular basis because the quantity leaves me frustrated each time!

Casual, fresh and excellent taste. Their sauces are great and delicious, which is really perfect for their pitas. And lastly, we had one of the best fries ever! (We did not expect that).

The food is indeed a good value for money. Must try especially for vegetarian people. We'll surely come back for more!

The falafel arrived fresh from the fryer and was hot and crispy. The pita bread was soft and chewy, and together the combination was absolutely delicious. Definitely one of the best value falafel meals in Singapore.

My only criticism is that I wish the sauce accompanying the falafel was a bit thicker and more flavorful - it seemed a tad watery. I'll definitely be back to try more!

I saw the review of this restaurant in the sunday times last sunday and checked out the website. Saw that the price was quite reasonable and its outdoors even though at MBS so decided to go for dinner.

It was a very casual dining place.. and I must say the service is not very good. The concept is a little like fast food concept n u are supposed to stuff your own pita with beg from the salad bar after they put in the falafel. 3 in half pita and 5 falafel in full pocket pita. As u can see from m picture of the half pita, its not very big n can really stuff much in. The guys there were not very friendly and even quite rude by their tone of speaking.

I would say food is good, esp the red shakshuka which we ate.. Very yummy! its a hot sizzling pan of salsa, tomato sauce with eggs.. very yummy when u dip it with the pita bread as well..The falafel is quite delicious.. but i dun think its smt that can go very wrong.. the ones i had at arab street are abt the same standard and price i would say..

The different sauces provided were quite yummy.. if u can see from my half pocket pita picture.. theres a green sauce which is abit like herb with green chilli or smt.. one of them is salsa and the other red sauce is a spicy sauce which i like! I would recommend this place if u wanna be full, but the downside for some could be its vegetarian..
