Their Little Fuji is a freshly toasted buttery flavor croissant dough with soft serve with caramel sauce. There is always at 5 to 10 minutes of waiting time for this Little Fuji and to collect at the counter when it’s ready. Therefore Little Fuji is always served piping hot and it’s duper crispy.

Their Chococro is also pretty good. By the name Chococro, it actually stands for Chocolate Croissant. Best part about this? When it’s freshly out from the oven, or at the minimum, it’s warm.
Somehow a pastry can’t go too wrong when there is warm molten hazelnut chocolate and warm crispy croissant involved.

Personally, I think Azuki bean paste(basically mashed red beans) goes best with matcha ice-cream, naturally I picked these desserts as our choice. I picked the one with Mochi while Le sister picked the one that comes with matcha jelly cubes.

In my opinion, the concept of the cafe is better than the desserts provided. Desserts are slightly over-rated for the price we paid. $8.20 each. The disappointment for me comes when the mochi is not chewy at all. Is'nt mochi suppose to be chewy.
And on the otherhand, the matcha jelly is far too chewy too. Would really prefer the texture to be softer instead of feeling lik agar agar. And the matcha taste is not strong enough. The only compensation is the blend taste of the mochi and matcha jelly win points for neutralising the combination of the ultimate sweet vanilla ice-cream + Azuki bean paste.

The ice-cream I tried was surprisingly good. I think it was called "Nara", which had matcha ice-cream, red bean and this chewy mochi-like thing.

The coffee was decent...easy on the palate but not diluted.

We decided to walk in to try, the interior is pretty comfy and a la Starbucks style, there are nice sofas for you to sit on. The plain water is self serve next to their counter.

3 minutes later and the mini fuji is ready for collection, and the taste is really really GOOD. Fluffy and crispy croissant-like base, topped with ice cream and caramel sauce. The flavours sort of explode in your mouth, all these enhanced by the crispiness of the croissant base.

Overall a really really nice dessert. Will definitely be back for seconds again.

Was at Vivo City and decided to try out St Marc Café, the place although was crowded and messy , the servers are friendly and helpful. We ordered Vanilla Soft Serve with Pudding, Red Bean and Mochi, Little Fuji. All their vanilla soft serve ice cream is smooth and creamy but melts very fast. Pudding is mellow and springy. Matcha ice cream is delicious! Generous amount or red bean, but not enough of cute chewy mochi. Danish is buttery and flaky. Almost crispy too, nice!

The counter is self-service and it’s a tad chaotic. If time is needed to prepare something, you will be given a beeper machine. Complimentary water is available near the kitchen and most customers clear their table before leaving.

Hot chocolate comes in small ($5), medium($6) and large($7). It was a letdown; the consistency was thin and lacked flavour. Unlike some other cafes, the hot chocolate was served piping hot, so do be careful not to burn your tongue. Hubby, who is quite fussy about coffee, had no complaints about his coffee (can’t remember the exact price but it was cheaper than the hot chocolate).

There are several pre-packed sandwiches displayed at the fridge; I chose Tuna potato+egg and tuna potato+ham sandwich ($4.30). I thought that my sandwich would be opened and served nicely on a plate. Perhaps my expectations were too high. It was a nice and refreshing sandwich; the bread was soft and fluffy, like clouds.

French toast was delightful, but a tad pricy at $3 for a serving like this. Yakitsuki dog ($3.50) was savoury and delicious; juicy sausage with a distinct black pepper and mustard flavour. A lot of effort is required to chew on the bread, which had a tough texture. Old folks should avoid the Yakitsuki dog.

Choco Cro ($2.40) is St Marc café’s bestseller, and I had to try it, after hearing the raves from my colleague. Although the Chocro Cro was displayed for quite some time at the opened counter, the croissant was still crisps and flaky on the outside. The dough is soft and aromatic as its loaded with butter, which make the pastry taste sooo good, even on its own. At the heart of the croissant, oozes warm semi-melted smooth chocolate, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The roasted peanut toppings added another dimension to the taste.

Thank goodness I got Choco berry celebration ($8.80), rather than strawberry Heaven. Why? Because the strawberries were served semi-frozen. Not impressed at all!

After an impressionable tasting of what we regarded as the best croissants tasted found at Urban Bakery and Le Salon in Hong Kong, we had been on the hunt for a comparable find in homeland Singapore. It was by coincidence that we noticed Saint Marc Cafe, where a like-minded food enthusiast shared a photo of their appetizing signature 'Chococro' on Instagram.

Having learnt that Saint Marc originated from Japan and the raving reviews online, we admittedly visited with a certain level of expectations. Spoilt for choice with the spread of colourful desserts each looking equally tantalizing, we settled for the signature few.

'Little Fuji' (S$6.30/-)

An interesting name certainly since many would be familiar with the famous Mount Fuji in Japan. Served on a beautiful golden brown delicious looking butter danish, the vanilla soft serve had viscous caramel sauce drizzled across. Digressing a little, soft serve is actually a type of ice cream which is generally lower in fat (<6%) as compared to traditional ice cream which could contain up to 16% fat. Air is also introduced into the mixture at the time of freezing with air content (typically termed 'overrun') up to 60% of the finished product. What makes it different from normal ice cream then? With a higher air content, it should ideally taste creamier, smoother, light and whiter in colour and that was exactly what we got with this 'Little Fuji'.

Personally, I do not have a good tolerance for excessively sweet desserts and this unfortunately fell into that category. I would imagine that the caramel sauce had undergone a thorough caramelization process where water is removed from the sugar mixture. It resulted in a sauce that was too sweet for my liking and I stopped pretty much after the first mouthful. The after taste of the caramel seemed a little artificial for our picky palate which we unanimously found reprehensible.

It would be unfair to fault the dessert without giving credit to the beautifully baked pastry. The butter danish pastry was everything we could ask for, a relatively generous serving with a nice crisp around the edges and a buttery fluffy inside to complement. I actually fell in love with the pastry and the soft serve but the caramel sauce left the dessert slightly distasteful.

Signature 'Chococro' (S$2.40/-)

'Chococro' quite simply refers to chocolate croissant in short. This signature pastry had rich layers of fermented butter and margarine which gave a sharp crisp texture to the surface of the croissant and a strong buttery flavour. While precariously taking out the croissant from the orange pocket sleeve for the all important ceremony of photo-taking, thin layers of the pastry and the almond crunch bits got scrapped off. Most of the bits seemed to have spent a minute or two longer in the oven, leaving it slightly burnt. Oh well, either it was too fragile or I was too hasty. And before I forget, I certainly did not expect the croissant to be 30-40% smaller than the usual croissants!

So, the photo-taking ceremony was over. I apologized for the mess created which somewhat did not make it look very appealing to my dining companions. The volume of the molten chocolate inside the croissant was certainly alot less than what I had in mind, so appearance wise I was already mildly disappointed. While the croissant was well baked, encased with a crisp firm crust and fluffy on the inside, the chocolate was artificial in taste and honestly if I tried it with my eyes closed, I would have thought that the chocolate popped from your classic 'Hello Panda' biscuit. It tasted exactly like that classic chocolate filling. Admittedly, I struggled to find myself being 'wow-ed' by this signature pastry regardless the raving reviews splashed all over.

Right, when I mentioned 'Hello Panda' earlier, the taste of the strawberry cream for this croissant tasted like its counterpart too - the 'Strawberry Hello Panda'. I did not know whether a cringe was an appropriate response upon the first bite. There was a lovely 'QQ' texture in the stuffed mochi, complemented with a smooth yet not overly sweet red bean paste was indeed something to salivate over. We loved the clever touch of introducing Japanese ingredients to a classic croissant but the 'Hello Panda' or if you like, 'Pocky' type of strawberry cream, served at this level was beyond redemption in my humble opinion. The spread of red bean paste was too thin to fully enjoy its taste, not to mention it being overwhelmed by the strawberry cream. We also found the crust of the strawberry croissant to be slightly different from the chocolate rendition with this texture on the limp side.

I do not know if my expectations were set too high but I was left largely disappointed having tried their signature offerings.

The prices of the other desserts seemed reasonable, ranging from S$6-S$9 per serving. I would consider the serving to be on the generous side seeing what our neighbouring diners had to fix their sweet-tooth. The supposedly famous croissants paled in comparison to what we had tried in HK. Everything was pretty much self-service where you would be issued with a 'Beeping UFO' that basically beeps and alerts you when your order is ready for collection at the counter.

Special shout-out to those smartphone users (pretty much everyone out there...): there is a QR code near the counter where you could scan and register immediately with your name and email address. You will then be provided with a coupon that will entitle you to a 10% discount when you flash it while making payment!

It would be a nice chill-out place to chat with friends and enjoy some desserts to fix one's sweet-tooth craving. What we also liked was that they had an iced water dispenser which had free-flow access to dine-in customers. Umm, I might take my cue elsewhere if I needed some desserts around Vivocity.

One of the newer additions to the St Marc Cafe menu, the ChocoCro is simply put - a croissant with a chocolatey filling. What puts it above and beyond that plain description, is the buttery croissant that is light, doughy at the centre, getting flakey and finally a crispy golden brown on the outside. That plus the chocolate filling derived from a blend of Ghana and Ecuador beans, is just a winning combination for me.

A box of 5 ChocoCros would set you back by $12, slightly cheaper than if you would purchase the pastry one at a time. At around $2 a piece, it's really a great snack at good value. Must try!

The 3D model of Kyoto Delight among several dessert displays, caught my eye. As a lover of matcha and warabi mochi, I couldn't possibly ask for more when I indulged in this delicious dessert of milk soft serve, complemented by mini rice balls, red bean paste, corn flakes, not forgetting the mochi and matcha ice cream, and completed with a drizzle of caramel syrup.

Whenever you're in Vivocity, never give up the chance to get a couple of chococros for families or friends! These amazing chocolate croissants live up to their Japanese dessert reputation. I can polish off three on my own, but I always eat them on the spot. If you're buying these back home, follow the instructions on the box to reheat them for an extra-crispy experience! I love it that their chocolate isn't too sweet as well!

Love love love Japanese desserts!

We ordered Iced Matcha Latte and Choco Berry Celebration (ice cream). Even though there's alot of people but ordering is fast but we have to wait for the food to be sent to us. The matcha latte was quite disappointing. Not sure if that is how it is supposed to taste, but it taste rather diluted to me. So we drank water mostly, which was free and self service near the counter. The ice cream was rather normal and pricey at $8.80 with vanilla ice cream, berries and the soft tofu.

I can never remember which type of coffee I like. I shall remember, it's not Latté but Mocha. Difference being mocha has chocolate while latté doesn't. This is the $5/Iced Latte (M). The place isn't too cold for iced coffees even on a rainy day, and thank goodness for that or I'll be forced to buy hot coffee which I don't really like unless they are really, really good.

They are pretty big on hygiene, especially one of the staff who took care to ensure the table is really clean instead of just wiping it without much care. Kudos to that meticulous staff member!

Also tempted to try Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar located only a few shops down the row but it looks like the Chocolate Bar is only suitable for the hardcore chocolate fans, so I shall only go when I have intense cravings for chocolate - which is pretty rare.

There are also a lot of coffee cafés in Vivo City, so choose your poison! There's Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Gloria Jean's, Gelare, Pacific Coffee Company, National Geographic Café...one of the best malls for some good chill-out afternoons.
