 I gasped when I saw this dish on the menu. I had always thought of Okonomiyaki as a Japanese savoury pancake, and that Pajeon is a Korean version of it. Both the kimchi and seafood pancakes had their own merits. The seafood pancake was more flavourful with the bonito flakes on top, while the kimchi pancake was more plain, yet fragrant.

 I expected crispiness in each bite, but discovered an interesting thin and doughy texture instead. This portion is good for sharing among four, as an appetiser.

 I loved how SYNC actually used a poached egg instead of a soft-boiled egg in the bibimbap. The five ingredients used were in perfect balance, and this definitely caters to diners looking for a fuller meal. The sauce had a slightly sour note, and this somehow accentuated the flavours of the other ingredients.

 One of the more noteworthy offerings at SYNC Korean Fusion Bistro was this plate of fries topped with kimchi nacho cheese. I felt like several flavourful expressions were going on in my mouth at once — there was a hint of spiciness from the kimchi, and a lightly sourish and salty flavour from the nacho cheese. This is definitely recommended for cheese lovers.

 Mildly spicy, this Korean noodle soup features curly noodles with tofu, wakame, smoked duck and a soft-boiled egg. I must confess my initial disdain for this dish - "Isn't this instant noodles?" This has long been my perception of Korean ramyun, but this heartwarming bowl of noodles differentiates itself well from the 3-minute-to-prepare meal. The soup broth was very rich and flavourful, and the springy noodles were certainly a far cry from instant noodles.

 Koreans have their own version of Lontong. These rice cakes are glazed with a spicy-sweet sauce and accompanied by fish cake slices, bacon, spring onion and a soft-boiled egg. They are extremely chewy and taste divine with that thick, sweet and savoury sauce. This dish is best shared with others, allowing you to sample the various ingredients without getting too stuffed.

 How can chicken be this crispy?! This was the prevailing thought on my mind as I dug into these sweet and spicy winglets. The meat was really tender and the savoury juices oozed out to mix with the sweetness and spiciness. Every bite of this chicken is sophisticated because of the elaborate science that goes on in the cooking process. SYNC differentiates their chicken by adding a sprinkle of black sesame seeds.

 If you are able to order only one dish, make it the Matcha Lava Cake. This is probably the most satisfying dessert I have ever eaten in my life! I usually have a disinclination towards any dessert made with green tea, but this is extremely well-executed. Mere words fail to express how awfully delicious and tantalising this is! Watch the following video and you will know exactly what I mean.

 Last but not least, SYNC does not impose any service charges. However, you can rest assured that their service standards are comparable to those of many establishments with that ubiquitous 10% charge.

You will find most of the electronic devices from the ordering tablets to the display gadgets at a cozy adult and kids corners. I am not aware that there is a restaurant at level 3 corner side of the mall until Wilson invited me to the session.We started off with Toppoki with fried bacon and egg S$7.90. Mixture of western style bacon bits with the Korean style toppoki turned out to be a spark. T

 We started off with Toppoki with fried bacon and egg S$7.90. Mixture of western style bacon bits with the Korean style toppoki turned out to be a spark. Taste bit of bacon saltiness that blend into the sweetness of the sauce was indeed a good start.

 Korean Chicken Wings S$6.90 comes in 3 pieces. One of my favourite dish as the chicken wings were served with sesame seeds and coated with sauce all over it. Indeed a finger licking dish while it is hot.

 K-pot stew is well-received by the diners as we can see most of the tables has one. The portion is quite decent with flavorful stew broth and comes with filled ingredients. Need me to say anymore?

 Jajangmyeon S$12.90 is definitely a must try mains. Unlike the usual jajangmyeon, noodles here are spaghetti. Combination of fusion taste turned out to be pretty awesome with the black bean sauce.

 Jap Chae with beef S$11.90. Loving this dish as well. Served warm instead of the usual cold ones gives the fragrance taste with sesame oil and seasonal vegetables.

 Bibimbap S$12.90 is the combination of rice, seasonal fresh vegetables, soft boiled egg, gochujang and sesame oil. After giving a good mix, you can enjoy crunchy texture with after fragrance taste.

 We ended the session with lava cakes with a scoop of ice-cream S$7.90. They have green tea, yam and chocolate lava cake flavours. Yam lava cake was quite an interesting one as the sweetness is not overwhelming and goes well with the ice-cream. Same goes to the rest of the flavors but little did I expect that I get to enjoy yam flavor in lava form.

Some may think that certain dishes' combination is weird, well I have my doubts previously too. But it turned out surprisingly good! Such as Gamja Tuikim: fries topped with kimchi and nacho cheese and Topokki: Korean rice cakes with fish cake and bacon.

 Besides the average Korean mains, I would strongly recommend the desserts! They have one of the better Matcha (green tea) lava cake. Thumbs up
If you are looking for something out of the norm, you may try the White Chocolate Taro or White Chocolate Red Bean lava cake.

The popularity of molten chocolate cakes never seem to dwindle as it has a high frequency of appearance in the menus of cafe bistros and western restaurants. Now, this Korean bistro is pretty ambitious to offer it in three different flavours, White Chocolate Lava Cake Red Bean, Taro and Matcha. The Matcha Addiction ($7.90) lacked conviction and was closer to the spectrum of green tea than matcha. I could possibly be biased because I had this immediately after having the Best Matcha Lava Cake in SG.

I thought it would be fun to order something which maybe few people or no one has ever ordered before. But no, huge mistake. For the Mak Gul Li parfait ($8.90), I thought we were served a wrong order of a cocktail instead of a dessert parfait. Cornflakes (not "cornflake crumbles") were submerged into a pool of white yoghurt, cheapened with canned pears (not "seasonal fruits") and cloying sweet jam at the base. I could not locate the Jujube honey anywhere too. The blend of the Korean Rice Wine and Yoghurt could be an acquired taste but the moral of the story is that one should probably stick to the recommended items next time.

 The menu offers common korean food items like Bibimbap and Jajangmyeon(Black Bean Paste noodles) with a twist. However, they charge for plain water. Not in sync on this one.Sync Korean Fusion Bistro Menu

The kimchi cheese fries from the recently added new menu was alas, disappointing. We didn't expect it to be really kimchi+cheese+fries.. The medium-cut fries were drenched in a (too) generous amount of nacho cheese sauce and topped with a small portion of the actual kimchi veggies. KFC might have done better for cheaper. Skip.

 Kimchi Cheese Fries ($6.90)

The Jajangmyeon uses pasta instead of the usual white wheat noodles. It came smoking hot, with little chunks of diced pork and a side of pickles. The black bean paste is on the sweet side. I like my Jajangmyeon more savoury, but this version went down alright with me still. Some restaurants don't always include the meat in Jajangmyeon, so make sure you check if you don't want to end up with just plain noodles and black bean sauce, like yours truly did on a few occasions. Order this, especially for those who like a sweet-savoury main that is slightly more sweet than savoury.

Finally, the white chocolate taro lava cake, which was what we came for. This is really one of the best lava cakes around. The lava flow was glorious, but be sure to cut right in the middle so the purple lava flows out too. The accompanying taro ice cream was also full of taro flavour and superb with the warm cake.

 Taro White Chocolate Lava Cake ($8.90)

Sync does have an interesting modern Korean-centric cafe concept and the spacious place is also conducive for relaxed catch-ups, especially on weekday afternoons. Be sure to leave some space for the lava cakes.

 Clean lines, chic, casual and contemporary: Sync Korean Fusion Bistro's interior take on a monochrome, muted colour scheme with wooden tables splayed in right angles to one another. The good news is that there's no service charge involved in your final bill, you will still get the usual service-fare including service staff going to your table to order, and serving it to you. The bad news is that the dishes are priced quite expensively, so I wouldn't doubt that they subsumed that elusive service charge into the prices already. Their saving grace might be the free wifi for those whose mobile data is hitting the roof or on prepaid cards.

 A bistro opened by Samsung: with a corner for children: Sync Korean Fusion Bistro is opened by Samsung, the Korean multinational company responsible for what we are mostly acquainted with - smartphones and tablets. Possibly the only multi-coloured corner in the entire bistro, this is a children's corner for them to entertain themselves on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

 Kicking off the meal with a Salad consisting of a melee of sweet corn, mushroom, beansprouts, pickles, kimchi. While the sourness and sweetness hit the right notes, the portion - approximately the size of two regular protractors - was much too little to justify for its price of $7.90.

 The savoury Korean pancakes that were going one-for-one for DBS/POSB card users. Originally priced at $12 each, they come in two flavours - Seafood (white), and Kimchi (orange). The seafood okonomiyaki was heavy with flour and flavouring, and that's about it. The kimchi okonomiyaki scores slightly better in terms of taste, but credit goes greatly to the bonito flakes. Fusion with Japanese? I was confused. In any case, even with the card promotion, it doesn't feel like it's value-for-money.

 The Ja Jang Myeon ($12.90) can still be considered decent, with a succinct fusion of Italian spaghetti noodles and Chinese/Korean ja jang myeon fragrant black bean sauce. For some reason the noodles break really easily and were not al dente.

 Blur photo because I put too much faith in my new S4 to do the work for me.

My order of the Smoked Duck Ramyun ($13.90) was quite edible, with ramen-textured noodles soaked in a semi-spicy kimchi viscous sauce. The sauce was thick, but suspiciously made so by a(n) (over)dosage of corn starch rather than egg yolk or tonkotsu goodness like I wished. I guess my recent ramen escapades are spoiling me too much. There were so many points on this dish that felt pretty half-hearted (spiciness level, smokiness of the duck, sauce)... I can't recommend this.

 I probably only came for the Matcha Lava Cake ($7.90) which doesn't really disappoint except that the matcha doesn't flow as much as raved?! It was still warm and overall, quite satisfying. But... I noticed it was sitting at the counter for sometime before it was served. I get it that there is no service charge at this place, but lava cakes are time-sensitive. I can only say so much, without asking for a refund for the substandard experience at Sync Korean Fusion Bistro.

Started off with fries topped with kimchi nacho cheese, hotplate of toppoki glazed in spicy sweet sauce sprinkled with fried bacon and crowned with soft boiled egg; then slurp up a golden hotpot of Budae Jjigage. And of cuz endoing off our meal on a sweet note - with a flowing matcha/taro & red bean lava cakes. My favorite was the Toppoki w bacon and Jap Chae with beef.
The highlight that night were the lava cakes, I was amazed at the unique flavours offered - Matcha, Taro and Red Bean lava cakes. It's probably not a Korean dish but trust me, it's a satisfying sore throat dessert. I would travel all the way to Westgate for this - Daebakkkk.
