This place is quite popular, so you got to get a queue number. They are quite strict on arranging a seat for you only if every single one in your group has arrived. Kinda pissed about that, but I guess that's unavoidable for them to maximize their dining occupancy. Granted, the service staff was very apologetic about that. So, a word of advice - do not go there if you have friends who are regularly late for their dinner dates. Thankfully my dining companions were on time so the ones who come a b
We ordered a few dishes to share.
The pork dumpling with chili was pretty good. The dumplings were full of meat & the accompanying "Ma La" spicy sauce went well with the dumplings
Since most of the items we ordered had a lot of meat, we ordered a vegetable dish. There were only 4 different ones to choose from and all rather pricey for just a plate of vegetables. Nevertheless, we ordered the sauteed spinach. Surprisingly, it's quite good. The spinach was sauteed well, the accompanying tasty sauce (a tad on the salty side) & dried garlic bits enhanced each bite.
The Shanghai pork bun was alright, the pork inside quite tasty & succulent.
For the signature sliced pork la mian, the noodles were a bit too soft. Soup base was ok, nothing special. Pork slices were very thin, but a bit tough.
The radish pastry was not bad as well. The pastry was crispy and the savory radish filling really tasty. Just wish that there's more filling compared to the pastry.
Of course since we're here, we had to order their signature Dynasty Xiao Long Bao. It's best if you eat it in the order recommended, from the mildest to the strongest-tasting. The xiao long bao itself is not too bad, it's above-average (nothing beats Din Tai Feng's xiao long bao). As for the avant garde tastes, they are best savoured with an open mind - it's more for an interesting twist. The original still beats the rest hands down. Up to your own preferences, you might prefer one or two of the flavors provided.
Generally the food we ordered were either average or slightly above average. I simply got to point out another thing.
The hot tea offered was horrible. It was dark in color but had absolutely no taste and fragrance to it. And it was charged at $1.20 per pax.
