The quintessential items for tim sum are Har Gow (prawn dumpling) and Siew Mai (prawn and pork dumpling served open-faced wrapped with wonton skin).Ho Kee Pau outlet is one of my favourite place for a quick takeaway of har gow and siew mail.A good quality Har Gow (prawn dumpling) very much lies on the rice wrapping. A good quality Har Gow (prawn dumpling) very much lies on the rice wrapping. The wrapping needs to be thin if its too thick it becomes chewy and most of all not forgetting the wholesome shrimp on each dumpling.
Siew Mai the dumpling wrapped with wonton skin served open-faced topped with some roe with ingredients comprising of shrimp and pork(with combination of slightly fatty meat). What makes a good Siew Mai is the firmness and moist texture and a generous amount of meat.
Priced at 70 cents each.
Though the chilli sauce as are prepacked PeeVee brand, its goes well with the Har Gow and Siew Mai.
