Open House is located right in the middle of Orchard Road at Grand Park Orchard Hotel. The restaurant is decorated in shades of grey and green. The restaurant has limited selection for its buffet as it quite small in space. But there is great view of orchard to make up for it. Most of the food stations are live stations where food are cooked on the spot and served to you later. So take note of your table number before going around placing orders. Roasted Meat Station : Char Siew, Roasted Duck, Soya Sauce Chicken, Roasted Pork, and green leafy vegetables. The staff at the counter has helpfully asked if I take pork and made a platter of assorted meat for me. It is served with plum sauce, garlic chili sauce and a wasabi tasting mustard sauce. The char siew is not char burnt. The soya sauce chicken is a bit too red in the meat part. But roasted pork belly tastes great. Noodles Station Laksa, Wanton Mee, Noodles in Hot and Sour Soup, Fish Noodles Soup, Mee Siam. The wanton mee is tastes great with its great QQ texture of the noodle and tasty soup base. The laksa is not bad with its thick soup. Dim Sum Station : Siew Mai, Har Gao, G Rice, Char Siew Pau, Carrot Cake. The har gao has quite chewy skin. Overall the dim sum tastes average. Dessert Station : Assorted Cakes, Bread Pudding, Barley with Beancurd Skin, Local Kueh, Ice-Cream, Mini Fruit Tarts, Durian Pengat and assorted shot glass desserts. Must try its Durian Pengat which it filled with thick and creamy durian flesh. Skip the local kueh as they taste a bit too dry. Claypot Station : Dried Waxed Sausage Rice, Beef Brisket, Assam Fish, Sambal Prawns, Watercess Soup. Of all the claypot dishes, the beef brisket is the best as it is very braised to soft, tender and flavourful. The sambal prawns is also great with its big juicy prawns. Too bad it is served with too hard Man Tou and too little sauce to dip with. Pizza Station : Teryaki Chicken, Seafood, Cheese, Hawaiian. One can the cook making the pizza bases on the spot. The pizza crust is quite thin and crispy.Tastes not bad, but would be better with more sauce on the base. At the last counter, there is assorted sushi, assorted cold cuts and salads. The sushi here tastes a bit dry, as it has been pre-made. We end the meal with hot tea and coffee. The tea is a bit tasteless, more like hot water to me.
Overall at $33++ per person for dinner, I feel that it is quite a great deal especially the restaurant is located in Orchard Road and the place is not too crowded on a Sunday night. Best of all one does not have to wait at the food station for your food as it will be served to you.
