We were near the area so we dropped by to pack our lunch. I had the mushroom swiss meal, changed the drink to a cup of hot tea. I find that their beef patty was a bit dry but they gave a very generous amount of mushroom sauce which was very nice. It helped to reduce the dryness of the beef. The fries was good when eaten hot but it was a bit soggy by the time we reached home. The hot tea was still hot though.

Service was quite good at this outlet as the is not much crowd at that time. Quite a good place to sit down to rest if you are doing shopping there.

The outdoor area is quite dark  OK Mar 10, 2011

We went for a sale at the expo and went for dinner at this outlet of Burger king. There were many people but we managed to find a seat. As it was about 7 plus in the evening, the area became quite dim and sitting under the shade, it was really quite dim. The seats had been polluted by birds since it was outdoor area. There was no sufficient lighting so you can imagine having to have your food in a very romantic way cos quite dark. Perhaps they should have more lightings. The food wise was quite standard. I had mushroom swiss burger set. The beef patty was slightly dry but the mushroom sauce managed to save it. Service was okay but it takes a while before we were served.

Quite a nice place for food Smile Mar 10, 2011

It was quite some time back when I first tried out this restaurant. I remembered it was a weekday dinner and we only managed to get an outdoor seat as all the indoor seats were taken.

I had ordered their famous portuguese baked half chicken with rice set and a cup of hot watercress drink. The portion of the chicken was quite small, something like the size of those spring chicken. Taste wise was not bad and the chicken was qute tender. As for the hot watercress drink, it was quite good as you seldom will be able to find such drinks in Singapore. Quite sweet though but has the flavour of watercress. Overall, not bad.

Just average in taste OK Mar 10, 2011

After winning the voucher from December's contest, we went to have our lunch at The Diet Butler one Monday afternoon. As we were still early, we were their first customers there.

The environment is quite okay, very simple. The service staff quickly showed us the menu and informed the soup of the day was brocollies soup. At first, I intended to get the grilled salmon with lemon caper sauce but was informed it was out of stock as they had a party the day before and it has been used up. So, I settled for ribeye steak with mushroom sauce. Other main course includes a grilled dory with herb and lime butter. We also order the soup, a mango and sauteed shrimp salad with cous cous, 1 tea (Pot) and 2 coffee.

For the mango and sauteed shrimp salad with cous cous, the shrimp are very fresh and sweet. The mango bite are also quite nice but we were not very used to the cous cous. I will rate it 3 out of 5.

As they have run out of mushroom sauce for the ribeye steak, they recommended another sauce for it that has pineapple blended, so that it is a bit spicy and sour. I like this sauce, very appetising. However, the ribeye steak was overcooked. My medium rare has become medium or even well done. The steak was thus tough and dry. I will rate it a 2 out of 5.

The dory fish was quite good but with the herb and lim butter sauce, you will get tired of it after a while. Luckily with the sauce from my ribeye steak, my friend can have a different taste for her dory. She let me tried some of the dory and I also prefer it with the a little spicy, sweet and sour sauce. The dory was fresh though. 3 and 1/2 points.

The best part will be the soup. The brocollis soup with some fresh cream on top was thick and nice. You can enjoy the blended brocollis in every mouthful. This is the best. I gave it a 4 and 1/2 out of 5.

Coffee and tea was standard although I would prefer my coffee to be more fragrant and have a stronger coffee aroma.

Service was good . Just that some of the food items do need some improvement. But it was good that they can recommend new things when some of the items are out of stock.

Nice traditional biscuits Smile Mar 10, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Bakery

We were at Chinatown and specially went to look for this bakery as I was told their traditional cakes and biscuits are very nice. I bought a few type (wife biscuits, Sweet bean paste biscuits and salted bean paste biscuits) and I really loved their sweet bean paste biscuits. The taste is very balanced, not too sweet. You can still feel the slightly grinded texture of the beans. The pastry is also very well done, a bit flaky. The salted bean paste bisuit is also quite nice, not too salty. They have many other types of biscuits, maybe next time I will try their water chestnut biscuit.
