Expensive bbq OK Aug 10, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Seafood | Zi Char | BBQ

Located at the historical lao pa sat, this bbq seafood stall is blooming with business. There are some dishes that went out of stock during dinner.

I ordered the bbq stingray and the yam ring. The stingray is good, the chilli on top is with fried small prawns (hay bee hiam), very fragrant and spicy enough. The fish is tender and quite thick with meat. quite satisfying. However, the yam ring is not as wonderful. It does not have the yam taste and is white in colour, which is considered quite bland. The stir fried chicken and vegetables with dried chilli inside the ring taste normal only.

These two dishes with 3 plates of plain white rice cost S$43, which is very expensive. I could have ordered at other hawker for a cheaper price, so this is not as worth in my opinion.

Golden fried chicken Smile Aug 06, 2014

Categories : Coffeeshop

Located islandwide is this western stall call golden rooster, 可爱鸡. I have tried this years ago and love it ever since.

Different outlets have a bit different taste but the menu is the same. I have tried the one at taman jurong, jurong west street 42 and this one at clementi.

The one that I find most worthy is the half chicken. They have both barbequed and fried ones. For this outlet at clementi, the barbequed one used to be nicer, now I prefer the fried one. It cost about S$5.30 per plate for half a chicken with rice and salad. Super satisfying and definitely very filling. The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender inside. Salad taste pretty good. The rice is still fragrant though it used to be much better.

They have other dishes as well, those without rice like fish and chips, whole chicken and wings sold separately.

Another dish I would like to recommend is the black pepper chicken chop rice. The black pepper sauce is flavourful, not too much pepper. The chicken chop is grilled well, can tell that the chef manage and control the fire well and grilled it to perfection. However, it cost a bit more, about 6 bucks. That is why I find the half chicken more worth it as the quantity and portion is larger.

Thick sashimi OK Aug 16, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Standing sushi bar, it has 2 outlets. One is at bras basah beside SAM and food for thought. On Mondays and Thursdays, their salmon sashimi is $3 for 5 pieces. It's no wonder there is always a long queue. Even when we reach there at 6.30pm, we still have to wait for 30 - 60mins.

Some of the other dishes like maki is quite expensive. The Don is still considered pretty reasonable. The service is ok, though they will ask if you need to order more if not they will pass the bill to you without you asking. This is their way of chasing customers away after they are done so that others can enter.

The sashimi is thick and juicy as shown in the photos. It is satisfying though it would be better if served cold. Usually I will get sick of it after 2 plates as more of it without other sushi to go along will be too much to take. The sashimi is fresh and worth it!

Chicky chicken Smile Aug 11, 2014

Located just opposite bugis junction, Jing Jing chicken rice is a chicken rice restaurant with many other outlets elsewhere too. It has a variety of dishes, from noodles to rice to hor fun, and they have curry and Zi char as well.

What I usually order is Set C, the normal chicken rice. Other sets comes with vegetable etc. I always believe that white chicken is the one that determines the standard of the chicken rice. The white chicken is tender and you can tell that they soaked it in cold water after cooking. The rice is fragrant. It cost 4 bucks but you have to include 7% GST. Even so, it is still worth it.

oyster omelette Smile Aug 10, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre

Situated at the historical lao pa sat which was recently renovated is this local delight with a long queue. It sells fried hokkien noodles, fried carrot cake and oyster omelette etc.

While waiting for the oyster omelette, I wanted to order another plate of fried prawn noodles but the person said I have to re - queue.

The oyster omelette taste pretty good. It is crispy but not totally crispy until it is over fried. It still has the soft flour taste. Locals prefer it with more egg and this is suited to local taste. The big plate cost 8 bucks. A little pricey but quite worth it in my opinion.
