Breakthrough Café is located directly opposite the Subordinate Courts. Quite an ironic location, considering that its service crew are mostly (if not all) ex-offenders. , in Singapore - RARE!!! (for a non-high end café). From point of receipt at its entrance, to ushering you to your seats, to recommending favourites and taking orders, to quick serving your food, to prompt clearing of your dishes! No shouting, grumbling, black-faced crew at all!
If anyone does not believe in giving 2nd chances to ex-offenders, come here and I bet the experience will change your opinion!

The internal décor (and even the tables) displays Christian messages all around. Probably this is what keeps the crew going at peak performance, with visual reminders.
My all-time favourite food is the Curry Chicken with Rice. It was served in claypot, sufficiently thick and not too spicy. There are 4 pieces of chicken - drumlets & wings, along with 3 big pieces of potatoes - generous!. The chicken was soft and detaches from the bones easily. I like the potatoes very much
- a little raw with a crunchy texture, instead of overly boiled with sandy texture. By the way, I've experienced twice where this dish was sold out during lunch! Now you can infer its popularity!

They also sell Curry Vegetables (generous serving as well), Curry Fish, Dim Sum and various desserts (there was a particular one with chestnuts in it that was really a throat soother
). Tissue boxes are available for use in the café (I simply to have mention this, since it is rare to find places that provide tissue for free. Even restaurants charge for Wet Napkins, which is ridiculous!
)

So, Breakthrough Café is like a café founded for charitable purpose and if you think it's going to cost above-average prices (with hidden cost going into the Yellow Ribbon Project maybe), the Curry Chicken cost me $6 only.
All in all, with fruit juice (and I'm not sure if there's a service charge), I paid about $10. Totally worth it!

With the crew providing top-notch, non-intruding warmth service, the place is A/C and serves good food at low prices, is Breakthrough Café a gem or what? Haha!
If any further improvement can be done, they might wish to consider having a daily special menu to convert their existing customers to "daily customers". I'd be one when they do so!

This is a social enterprise for ex-offenders, they got sell dim sum, curry, nasi lemak, breakfast set. We try their egg tart and traditional bread, the egg tarts are so so only, nothing special, kopi so so too, but their bread are very fragrant, i think because they used brown sugar bread, it is tasty with kaya and butter, very addictive. staff attitude are good, one of the nice cosy place to eat.

This cafe is located just opposite the subordinate courts, and was rather crowded during tea time. We went there to get some desserts. The almond tea costs around $1.60 - was quite thick and not too sweet. The iced chendol costs $2.50 and good for 2 to share. However, it's a little overly sweet and the taste of coconut is too strong. This place also serves a variety of dim sum.

Went with one of the boss for lunch nearby that day and she decided to have this curry meal with mixed vegset, curry chicken and some oath snack. Well. As this company is hierarchical and being the first time eating with her, I don't dare to take much photos but my own food mixvegset and sadly no oath. Wile I tried the chicken, they are both not that spicy but nice curry taste and good proportion of food. The service is nice as they are fast in serving, finding seat for us during ,lunch, that da

Wile I tried the chicken, they are both not that spicy but nice curry taste and good proportion of food. The service is nice as they are fast in serving, finding seat for us during ,lunch, that day was raining so the service was frat that they shift us to another seat nearby so that there no rain droplet and the next day I went pass, the service remember me and ask me if I want eat when I alone. Overall, the price is reasonable for curry set of $7 with rice in nice environment to enjoy the cool air and scenery, breezing atmosphere with nice and hot curry to warm the body temperature. The vegetable and chicken was soft e ought that it does not start inside the teeth especially when eating with higher rank staff initially. Overall, the place is clean.

The service is good. The food is good. The Curry Fish Head is something to try for. Not too spicy. Servings are huge. Although the fish head could be bigger.The Steamed Prawn Dumplings are not too bad. Just that it is a little bit dry tho.The Phoenix Tail Prawn is nice. Just the right taste and texture.The Dumplings Fried are not what I expected tho. Inside of it is too dry. Can't help but keep dipping it in the sauce.Overall is a nice experience. Heard alot of their Rice Rolls and Pig's Trotter

We also had siew mai,chicken big pau,char siew rice roll,congee with century egg,and prawn roll(pictured ).The portions rather small($2.50 to $3.00) but we like their freshness of ingredients and ambience.In the corner is a piano with Christian reading materials beside it.
