I would never order this dish again however good the curry. the bitter gourd pork ribs was good, competent, no difference with kok sen or the hong kong street chun kee at commonwealth crescent.the claypot sea cucumber was ok, average, to me a neither here nor there dish – some gluey sauce, cheap sea cucumber, threw in some veg.har jeong kai (prawn paste chicken) never my favourite. these ones ok competent. i like my homecooked chicken wings better though they did not have the prawn paste flavour.i liked both the vegetables – the sambal kan kong (马来风光) & the garlic kailan.the dinner came to S$94 all-in include some drinks. quite ok & a very pleasant evening together with family. continue reading

I went to the Clementi Hong Kong Street Cze Cha again, wanting to try their other non-fish menu. This time I ordered Black Bean sauce Beef Hor Fun.The dish came and the apperance looked good. The black bean sauce was salty and you can taste the black beans. The Hor Fun was fried with heavy "Wok" taste and smell. The beef meat was tenderised until quite tender to eat without the baking soda taste. continue reading

Had the curry fish head and frankly I think the gravy is not bad but the fish was not as fresh and tasty as I had hope it to be. Doesn't really stand out much for me. This is so normal it is sad. The beans are slightly undercooked and really I had french beans that are so much better elsewhere. This is the salted egg squid. I quite like it (love anything with salted egg) but the batter is slightly too thick. Still, nice to bite. Mongolia pork chops. This one is passable and has a thick sweet and savory gravy. continue reading

This is my 3rd invitation from OpenRice for food tasting at Sin Rong.Curry Fish HeadThe curry fish head is quite good. However, as a person who prefer spicy food to be real spicy, I personally felt it is not spicy enough for my liking.Fried LongbeansSince this dish was just fried, it was really hot when it came out. It was pretty crispy and tasty too.Cereal PrawnsThis has to be the best dish among all dishes. The cereal are super crispy, and the prawns are not only big, they are also very fresh and juicy! I will really recommend this dish!Superior Vegetable SoupAnother decent dish. The soup is yummy!Salted Egg SquidThis dish... Hmmm. It taste pretty good at first, but after that, it gets kinda dry and I felt thirsty.Mongolian Pork RibsNothing really much to say about this dish. It tasted normal, except with additional pepper taste.Fried Chicken WingsAnother dish that is commonly seen, nothing really specialLongbean TofuThe dishes were quite repetitive. Firstly we had 2 longbean dishes, then they have salted egg squids as well as salted egg chicken (not included here). However, the tofu is quite silky!Overall, i will recommend the cereal prawns as well as the superior vegetable soup! continue reading

FoodThis is probably the first and last time I will patronise this Hong Kong Street Shop. It really brings a shame to the well-known shop name. What I ordered tonight was some standard item that one will probably order from a zi char store like this! *Roar* My dinner was messed up!Yee Mee - $4.00It's hot - a plus point. Overall this plate of mee is awful. The noodles are not soft enough. For yee mee, it should take a longer time to cook and this is not the case. The ingredients consists of few miserable fish cakes, fatty pork and vegetables as compared to other zi char stall.Beef hor fun - $5I'm utterly speechless by the taste of its hor fun and the ingredients it gives. Whoever had prepared the food is stingy. One or 2 pieces of beef and with few pieces of leaves together with the gluey gravy. Serviceservice is moderately ok. AmbienceThis store is located in the typical kopitiam environment.priceThe pricing is standard for zi char stall but the food has to be improvised to make consumers realised their money are worth the food.Recommendations / TipsI personally do not recommend these 2 dishes that I have posted. continue reading
