had a family dinner for mid-autumn festival 中秋节 at hong kong street (sin rong) at blk 325 clementi ave 5 located in kopitiam coffeeshop alongside botak jones.
we ordere 7 dishes. for me the best dish for the evening was the minced pork, salted fish on deep-fried bean curd. this a common dish among zi char stall & 1 of the best minced pork bean curd i had was at kok sen, followed by the one at muliangzai liang kee. couldn’t really say this was better but it was different as it had the salted fish making it quite distinctive.
the assam fish head curry was good, but for S$20, the tiny, almost disappearing or disappeared fish head (ikan tengerri??) was really pathetic. compare this with the fish head (angkoli) at forture restaurant which is more than twice the size! this more the size of the S$6 fish head at guan kim coffeeshop at tanglin halt. I would never order this dish again however good the curry.
the bitter gourd pork ribs was good, competent, no difference with kok sen or the hong kong street chun kee at commonwealth crescent.the claypot sea cucumber was ok, average, to me a neither here nor there dish – some gluey sauce, cheap sea cucumber, threw in some veg.
har jeong kai (prawn paste chicken) never my favourite. these ones ok competent. i like my homecooked chicken wings better though they did not have the prawn paste flavour.
i liked both the vegetables – the sambal kan kong (马来风光) & the garlic kailan.
the dinner came to S$94 all-in include some drinks. quite ok & a very pleasant evening together with family.

It tasted not very spicy but of sweet and sour type. The chilli tasted somewhat similar to Chilli Crab!

You can also bite many pork lard, a bit sinful but tasted great in mee goreng.

Had the curry fish head and frankly I think the gravy is not bad but the fish was not as fresh and tasty as I had hope it to be. Doesn't really stand out much for me. This is so normal it is sad. The beans are slightly undercooked and really I had french beans that are so much better elsewhere. This is the salted egg squid. I quite like it (love anything with salted egg) but the batter is slightly too thick. Still, nice to bite. Mongolia pork chops. This one is passable and has a thick sweet and

Cereal Prawns

This has to be the best dish among all dishes. The cereal are super crispy, and the prawns are not only big, they are also very fresh and juicy! I will really recommend this dish!

Longbean Tofu

The dishes were quite repetitive. Firstly we had 2 longbean dishes, then they have salted egg squids as well as salted egg chicken (not included here). However, the tofu is quite silky!

Overall, i will recommend the cereal prawns as well as the superior vegetable soup!

Yee Mee - $4.00
It's hot - a plus point. Overall this plate of mee is awful. The noodles are not soft enough. For yee mee, it should take a longer time to cook and this is not the case. The ingredients consists of few miserable fish cakes, fatty pork and vegetables as compared to other zi char stall.

Beef hor fun - $5
I'm utterly speechless by the taste of its hor fun and the ingredients it gives. Whoever had prepared the food is stingy. One or 2 pieces of beef and with few pieces of leaves together with the gluey gravy.

Service
service is moderately ok.

Ambience
This store is located in the typical kopitiam environment.

price
The pricing is standard for zi char stall but the food has to be improvised to make consumers realised their money are worth the food.

Recommendations / Tips
I personally do not recommend these 2 dishes that I have posted.

We went to Hong Kong Street (Sin Rong) stall in Clementi for lunch. I ordered the seafood bee hoon with gravy which costs $5. The bee hoon and seafood portion were generous and it was satisfying to the stomach as it kept me full. The gravy mixture tasted well with the bee hoon and ingredients and I enjoyed the meal overall. The service staff were efficient in serving us too.

My girlfriend and I wanted to eat botak jones so we headed to the clementi branch.
