I am a pasta lover and this has made it into my top list of must go places for pasta! Perfect for a quiet family lunch or a romantic dinner, this restaurant is suitable for those occasion. Prices are reasonably prices for the crazy portions and the amount of quality ingredients.  The squid was soft, and the batter seems to left a floury taste in the mouth. The marinade was an excellent complement to the dish where it was a good bland of sweet and tangy from the tomatoes.

 Really good pizza with a generous topping of Parma ham which taste so good on its own. The thin slices of pizza generously douse with cheese were el perfecto. Definitely a dish I would recommended. Rocket salad is an option which you can also add on to the dish.

We had Raikkonen pizza, fluffy and crusty base topped with generous amount of savory salami, pepperoni and chewy mushroom covered with thick cheesy mozzarella (meat lovers equivalent). Probably one of the better, and also more expensive, Italian restaurants I've dined in, La Cantina In Venezia serves traditional Italian food in a comfortable and whimsical setting, with great views of the bay.

Service at La Cantina In Venezia is befitting a fine dining restaurant. We had a problem with a shaky table, which staff fixed on the spot. They also acceded to our request to portion out food, as we were sharing. Staff also offer to change dirty plates throughout the meal.

The Pasta Linguine Al Granchio is the signature dish here, and consists of crab meat and linguine in a creamy tomato sauce. Very fresh and tasty, highly recommended!

The Pasta Spaghetti Pescatora is a seafood pasta, consisting of mussels, prawns, squid and scallops in a light spicy tomato sauce with spaghetti. I thought the sauce was a little too light and diluted, as the seafood made the sauce thiner. Could have been better. Fortunately, the seafood was fresh.

Because the restaurant is located just by the Changi beach, the breeze there is awesome in the evening. So if you're ever planning to eat there, remember to reserve a table at the balcony.

We sat down, enjoyed the breeze, chit-chatted and made our order. Here's what we ordered:

Vongole Spaghetti: Pasta with Clams cooked in Garlic and White Wine Sauce
Linguine Al Granchio: Crabmeat linguine in creamed tomato sauce
Prosciutto Funghi: Pomodoro, mozzarella, ham & mushroom
Pescatora: Shrimp, clam, squid & scallop in tomato sauce

The pasta here is not only very good, but also reasonably priced for a restaurant in a hotel.

Most people think of Changi Village as a rustic spot still relatively untouched by modernisation, with its lush greenery and long sandy beach. What most people don't know is the existence of an Italian semi fine dining restaurant, La Cantina, at the only "modern" building there - Changi Village Hotel.

Hidden from sight on level 8 of the hotel, La Cantina offers a splendid view of the ocean as well the surrounding greenery through the vast windows that stretches all the way up to the second floor, which incidentally happens to be the private dining area I believe. The decor revolves around simplicity with a touch of Victorian elegance through the addition of Roman pillars and crafted figurines. For people who prefer the outdoors, there's the more romantic (but warmer) al fresco option as well.

I didn't think too much of the Bruschetta, which was decent but not the least bit outstanding. It was essentially garlic bread with diced tomatoes on top, in which case the tomatoes looked a tad tired but managed to retain its juiciness fortunately.

Billed as the specialty for the week, the grilled scampi was nice with a smoky grilled taste but did come across as a tad too salty for my liking. Another grouse was that the meat was minimal. And at $29, it certainly didn't come cheap.

Linguine Al Granchio - Crabmeat Linguine in Creamy Tomato Sauce -

A most decent dish save for the fact that the creamy tomato sauce overwhelmed the taste of the crab, which was a pity really. They could have added chicken and there would be minimal differences except for the texture. Pasta was al dente however and overall the dish didn't come across as too heavy on the palate.

Quattro Stagioni - Pomodoro, Mozzarella, Ham, Artichoke, Mushroom & Olive -

First looks, the pizza looked huge and was literally spilling off the sides of the plate. However it was more of an eye full than anything else. The crust was a little limp and not the least bit crispy, while the ingredients tasted rather bland with neither cohesion nor contrast of flavours.

Coffee Creme Brulee - I had thought the coffee creme brulee would have been an interesting dessert but it didn't really live up to expectations. The creme brulee was very sweet on the first mouth but slowly became better. The coffee taste was unique but a tad too strong for my liking.

Chocolate Bitter Tart - Contrary to its drooling inducing appearance, the chocolate tart was merely average with its crust being too hard and the chocolate not being rich enough. Never ever judge a dish by its appearance.

Chocolate Souffle - Probably the best dessert of the evening, the chocolate souffle was not too sweet but small and didn't come with ice cream which would have complemented it very well. The crust could have been a little firmer as well but no complains about the oozing chocolate though. I would say its a slightly above average rendition.

Dinner for 2 cost almost $125, which isn't too expensive considering the quantity of food we ordered. Sure, the quality isn't top notch but its still decent Italian fare with huge portions to boot. Throw in the excellent ambience and service and there's no question if a revisit is on the cards.

He psyched me up so much that i was overwhelmingly excited.
And when he brought me to Changi Village, it was a complete anti-climax.

I was about to tell him off, but before i could do so, we were standing at the doorstep of Changi Village Hotel. It was (and still is perhaps) the grandest architecture in the entire Changi village district.

Trust me, I was still dubious that old Changi was a good enough place to have my birthday dinner.

Things changed however, when he brought me into La Cantina, which was hidden deep inside the hotel (considering the hotel was hidden well enough).

We sat at the balcony, which has limited seating capacity, by the way. We could feel the refreshing Changi breeze and embrace the magnificent skyline from where we were.

The atmosphere was awesome.

We started with Minestrone Soup, and then ordered ourselves a Vongole Spaghetti (Pasta with clams in white wine sauce) and Linguine Al Grnachio (Crabmeat linguine in creamy tomato sauce).

The portions were very generous. And when i say this, i actually mean the seafood, such as the crabmeat and clams. Not like most places where they overload you with the noodles and give you small bits of seafood

The wine taste was also a pleasant touch to your taste buds - not over empowering, yet enough to make the flavor very distinctive.

I recommend this place for couples. It's romantic and makes the perfect place for a date.
P.s Try to reserve the outdoor tables, it'
