Matsuo is indeed one of my favorite sushi places in SG. According to the Matsuo-san, all fishes are imported from JP (hope that didn't bother you much) every Tues and Fri. Matsuo is indeed one of my favorite sushi places in SG. According to the Matsuo-san, all fishes are imported from JP (hope that didn't bother you much) every Tues and Fri. Therefore, make your own judgement to decide when will be the best time to visit them ^_^. The sashimi there is indeed authentic and fresh, and you could definitely could feel the freshness and crunchiness when you taste them. However, their sake selection is indeed week, and they usually promote their self-imported type of sake meaning they could probably make more profit by selling that, rather than those Manju or Hakasan.

Note that I didn't comment on their price because I am willing to pay more for the quality because I buy the concept of "nothing comes cheap for good sashimi". =P

As usual, the owner will usually reserve (or block) those seats close to the boss (Matsuo-san) for their VIP. If you're less VIP there, then don't need to ask for those sushi bar seats in the front. Otherwise, they may escort you to the sushi bar further down close to the kitchen and restroom. (then, you know if you're the VIP there or not.)

Have a pleasant experience in Matsuo!!

The environment for this restaurant is quite good. You can see the cook preparing the food for you from your seats. Their food is basically is the combination of Japanese and French cuisine. You can see chopsticks, folk and table knife placed in front of you. A weird combination but it’s special. Their serving crews are friendly. Do not hesitate to ask their recommendation before you order your food.

The food is nice. I’ve ordered the set lunch that came with 3 courses. The Starter is Ratatouille, Endives, Red Frisee Lettuce, Onion Dressing with Mesclun Greens. And for the main course, I chose Grilled Salmon in Filo Roll, Burnt Butter Sauce. The dessert of that day is Macha Pound Cake with Azuki and Lentil Ice Cream and you can choose Coffee or Tea for the drinks. The starter is normal for me. But for the salmon, this is my first experiences that eat it in Filo roll. The crust is so thin and crispy. Basically the crust breaks when you poke it with the folk. I wish I can use my hand to eat it. The salmon is moist and it’s great combination with the burnt butter sauce. I love the Macha Pound Cake with Azuki, it’s a perfect dessert I could say. The Macha(Green Tea) pound cake is not that sweet but you can smell the aroma of the green tea when you putting it into your mouth. Azuki is sweet, if you want the sweeter taste, put more Azuki to your cake bite.
