The Bak Kut Teh is flavoursome, one that you will definitely come back for more. The salted vegetable is of the right bite and taste. The intestine doesn't taste awful at all and the You Tiao is quite crispy. All in all, nice place for Bak Kut Teh!

It is a waste that I didn't capture the interior design as my manager was presence and I couldn't ignore his existence. It is not coffee shop style, but has some degree of classic and simple.

the ribs were really tough and chewy. This is surprising, because one of the reasons we order the pork ribs rather than the chopped up spare ribs, is that they come a premium because of their tenderness. You usually can’t go wrong when you order the long pork ribs, but here they were dry and didn’t even fall off the bone.
Service is super efficient. But bak kut teh wise is just so so

About a year ago, one of Singapore's most renowned Bak Kut Teh stall, Ng Ah Sio (NAS for short), announced that Jumbo would take over the day to day operations of its only outlet at Rangoon Road. This was to ensure consistency in the food as well as excellent service, with the latter sorely lacking in NAS.

It has been a long while since I last visited and the place has undergone quite a drastic renovation. Gone is the old nostalgic eating house charm. In its place is a modern restaurant like interior with with white washed walls, granite top tables and overhanging light fixtures. And the place was packed with tourists, mainly from Hong Kong, all toting cameras and looking to have a taste of this "legendary" food stall that turned down Donald Tseng back in 2006.

Intestines - Also known as chitterlings, the intestines were a little too salty for my liking. But no offal smell. Best eaten with a large mouthful of rice.

Pork Ribs Soup & Spare Ribs Soup - $5.50 gets you a small bowl of pork ribs soup with 3 tiny pieces of well cooked meat that sports a reddish hue inside. However, the soup is so tasty that its almost surreal (probably from the addition of MSG) and not to mention overly salty, even by my standards. I liked the copious amount of pepper that went into it though. $7.50 on the other hand, gets you 2 slightly bigger pieces of spare rib, which totally differs in size from what you see on the menu. Oh and soup is refillable, but I didn't ask for any. No prizes for guessing why though.

To be honest, standards for this place have nosedived and NAS seems more like a commercial entity than anything else. I'm not sure Jumbo, as a stakeholder, has done NAS any good, save for perhaps the service. And I'm sure this is not just an off day for NAS as I did patronise twice in a space of a month and both times, quality was lacking. To compound that was the fact that prices weren't exactly cheap or even reasonable, veering well into the expensive category. I definitely won't be back.

If you want to have the full selection of their Bak Kut Teh, please come before 12:30pm because many of their spareribs variety will be sold out by 1:30pm (happened 3 times to me during weekends). As many of you know that they are usually two different styles of bak kut teh being "潮洲" or "馬拉". If you happened to visit Ng Ah Sio, you may consider to order one bowl of bak kut teh to share with 2 persons depending on how much you like it because all the soup can be refilled for FREE. Therefore, please make use of it.

My personal favorite on this heavenly king of BKT! Ng Ah Sio is a hit on the heavenly list. With a prolonged history and the infamous "rejection'' to the HK Governor, this king is the one to visit. My personal favorite on this heavenly king of BKT! Ng Ah Sio is a hit on the heavenly list.

With a prolonged history and the infamous "rejection'' to the HK Governor, this king is the one to visit. With a new refreshed look and renovations and perhaps the only BKT joint that relies on hand held food ordering devices, you will be well pampered with their service and taste.

Love the peppery soup base which is one of the most important criteria for being the heavenly king, the soft and succulent signature ribs that are well cooked but retaining the melt in your mouth meat texture and a to die for desire. A must have selection which is their pork skin, well stewed with no sense of elasticity.

A king is not to be miss with extended hours till 10pm!

As a late wake-r, it's almost impossible for me to have a taste of the most famous Bak Ku Teh in SG... For some unknown (probably silly) reason, we decided to hit the HSBC Tree Top Walk in a holiday very early morning & thus managed to have breakfast here at 5am!Frankly the Bak Ku Teh was not the kind I like, too peppery, I prefer herbal ones (like those in Malaysia). But the good thing is they offer a good variety of side dishes. The trip only become worth while when the kung fu tea was served.

Frankly the Bak Ku Teh was not the kind I like, too peppery, I prefer herbal ones (like those in Malaysia). But the good thing is they offer a good variety of side dishes. The trip only become worth while when the kung fu tea was served... as Cookiemonster mentioned, "the after taste is so addictive"!! It's really "gan" and after drinking the tea, I actually wanna have another bowl of ba ku teh so that I can feel that tea's after taste again! Cos the after taste won't be so strong if you just drink the tea without first eating the bak ku teh, they are perfect match~

Service was so so, the staffs were quick but look fierce haha

I feel it's slightly more expensive, like paying for "branded" stuff...
