Prawn paste chicken rice ($4.80): The prawn paste chicken wings are accompanied by butter rice instead of white rice. Thus, eating just the rice along is enjoyable as well because the rice is flavoured. The chicken wings are crispy and well-marinated with the prawn paste. It also comes with a side of salad which isn't to my liking. The portion is surprisingly quite filling as well. Worth the try

cereal fried rice: $5.30 - I love how the cereal fried rice taste is enhanced by the generous portion of fried cereal on top. It's an interesting combination and it tastes good too. The fried rice is accompanied by seafood ingredients such as prawns (which taste like those frozen ones) and squids (which are quite tough to chew). The portion is really big and filling.. probably 1.5 bowls of rice used? Overall, this is worth a try

We were running job errands in the area, so decided to “go back to school” to check out what’s there. At Pines Café, I ordered Tempura Ramen and felt it was pretty costly for $6.50 in a tertiary school. The bland and dull looking ramen tastes like something out of an instant packet. The batter of the shrimp is crispy but too thick and almost tasteless. In my opinion they should isolate it away from the soup because it causes the tempura to turn soggy. Crabsticks are the usual off from the freeze

We went to this dining place at Ngee Ann Polytechnic because our workplace is quite near. This dish is indeed very interesting...I heard of Cereal Prawns, Cereal Crab! But, Cereal Fried Rice? We went to this dining place at Ngee Ann Polytechnic because our workplace is quite near.

This dish is indeed very interesting...I heard of Cereal Prawns, Cereal Crab! But, Cereal Fried Rice? That's something new, isn't it?

The fried rice mainly consists of rice, together with prawns, squid and egg...The fried rice is then topped with Cereal (Where's the rice??) I would say that the Fried Rice would be really normal without the cereal. It tastes like any other average fried rice that we would be able to get in the hawker centres. However, the cereal added a sweet taste to it, making it really special but after sometime, I'm not sure it's because of the Cereal or what, I started to feel very greasy of the taste.

The chill that is provided is more of that Thai Chilli Sauce with Lime...Another addition that makes the fried rice more flavorful...Spice always makes the dish a shoe lot better and appeal more to the taste buds, at least for me!

In between lessons, my classmate and I headed to Pines Cafe for a drink to quench our thirst. As I was craving Milo, I ordered their iced milo for the first time.Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. It was too milky and the milo powder wasn't mixed in well.I could hardly taste anything other than the milk.Definitely wouldn't try this again!

On a rather hot and humid day, I went to Alumni and instead of ordering the usual coffee, I got their Orange Juice in the hopes of it quenching my thirst. The orange juice was rather mild and although it did quench my thirst, it was too diluted!Definitely wasn't to my liking! Won't be ordering this again!

When I was having sorethroat a couple of weeks back, i had to stick to a rather mild diet.Hence, I ordered the Ginger & Onion Sliced Fish for lunch,The portion of rice served was generous. However, there wasn't fish served. There was probably more or as much ginger as fish Moving away from the portion size, the food tasted rather average. It wasn't as flavourful as the Ginger & Onion Sliced Fish I've tried at various other places. This was leaning more towards bland.Won't be trying this dish again!

I finally visited the cafe after many months and ordered the Chicken Cube Fried Rice.

As always, the serving didn't fail to surprise me.
The portion has always been and still is very generous, enough to be shared between two people which is exactly what i did!
The fried rice is served with sambal belachan which complements the food really well.
Also, it is served with lettuce which is drizzled with a sauce, which I pressume is the Thousand Island dressing.
The portion of chicken in the fried rice is very generous as well.
The chicken is very chewy, tender, juicy and flavourful. Also, it doesn't have fats or skin on it which makes it so much tastier and healthier as well!

At only $4, what is there not to like about this satisfying meal!

Despite today's chilly weather,I was craving for Orange Juice so i headed to the ngee ann's alumni again as it's the nearest to my school divsion. I was initially thinking if I should get the usual marigold peel fresh but then I thought I should try someplace new so me n B ended up going to alumni. I would say i made a good choice! The orange juice was not too pulpy. The amount of pulp inside was just right and it wasn't too sweet.I HATE drinks which are too sweet so I definitely enjoyed this one!

It's been a year since I tried the chicken cube fried rice at the ngee ann clubhouse and it still stands as my most favourite dish at the Pines Cafe. It comes with sambal belachan and lettuce, with mustard dressing on top. The fried rice itself is really really good. I think they reduced some sauce in it as compared to the one I ate months ago because it looks lighter now but the amount of rice is ALOT and it's different compared to the nasi goreng we eat at hawker centres. The food is just ok - the drinks are better than food though @_@Iced milk tea and Iced milk coffee at $2 each. It is served in a rather small to medium hand held size jug which made the serving well paid for the price. XO Seafood Fried Rice ($6.50) serves a huge portion with a very light XO taste though. Ingredients are just ok with reasonable portions but it lack of the oomph factor. The huge portion is sufficient for 2 to 3 small eaters. This Fish & Chip ($4.50) is a total wreck up. The fries

This Fish & Chip ($4.50) is a total wreck up. The fries are cold, fish is over fried and very oily.
The order initially came wrong too ...

Pines Cafe is a favorite among students and lecturers around the vicinity and it is always packed during lunch hours. I usually order their yang chow fried rice or fried hokkien mee. Most of their dishes are priced from 3-4 bucks, definitely affordable and the amount is just right for students. I would love to try their Japanese and Western food some day. Additionally, they do not charge for take-aways unlike some other cafes. Thumbs up.
