Northpoint Food Court has undergone a revamped and now the food court is run by Kopitiam. Remember how in my previous post in 2010 I mentioned that the price of the Chicken Biryani Set has increased from $4.50 to $6? Well, this time there is another revision in price to $7. I can understand that the price has gone up as the rental expenses are bound to increase (after the revamp) and inflation rate in 2011 in Singapore surged to 5.2%. What made me unhappy was that the 2 pieces of crackers (which are my favourites) are no longer provided in this set. Increasing the price and cutting down on quantity or quality is a big no no to me.. (that's not the way to do business).. ok enough ranting.

The Chicken Biryani Set was served with chicken, vegetable (of your choice) and rice. A very generous portion of rice was given. Each grain of rice was well cooked and curry drizzled over it, it was delish. The chicken flaming red in colour was not overly spicy. Inside, the meat was soft and tender.

I can't help but wonder if the lack of queue was due to the price increase couple with the decrease in portion. After all, last time there will always be a long queue without fail. I doubt I am eating this anytime soon. The food was good. But this is too pricey. I am better off eating other stuff.

This chicken briyani set cost $7.0.
It only cost $3.5 at my school.
But what cannot doubt is, this set is tasty.
The rice is full with the Indian herb and with the curry sauce, it taste nice..!
The hawker is kind, they asked me to choose the vege (cucumber/sour vege).
The cucumber is crispy and fresh, with some pineapple,it taste a bit sour.
The chicken is tender and full with the red sauce.
It is a bit spicy.
Because im a spicy lover,i prefer it to be more spicy.
Overall, thumb up.

As I was really hungry after class, I decided to pop by at Shami a little after lunch time to get a take away. I opted for the vegetarian biryani - which to my knowledge is one of the best a foodcourt can offer. This would definitely costs much more at restaurants. I opted for the vegetarian biryani - which to my knowledge is one of the best a foodcourt can offer. This would definitely costs much more at restaurants. The rice was very fragrant and if you were lucky, you'd be able to spot quite a number of raisins and cashew nuts which makes the dish even more fragrant and appetizing.

For sides, I ordered my must have soya bean (chunks of soya mock meat marinated in a delicious spicy sauce), curried potatoes and stir fried french beans. All the sides were really yummy!

For starters, the soya mock meat was very tender at the same time, it tasted really nice and chewy. There is a certain method of cooking soya and when its not cooked right, it can tastes really dry and blunt. This, however, was well done.

The curried potatoes were very soft and was pretty much identical to potato masala. Apart from potatoes, the dish constituted of carrots as well which made it taste sweet and a little spicy as the same time.

The french beans is also one of my favorites as its always so crunchy! It is not spicy but the spices entice the dish and its always filled with flavor.

Each set meal is served with sambar (which is like dahl/lentil curry and vegetables) as well as Rasam (which is a spicy soup and great for people with a cough or flu). Yoghurt can also be purchased at an additional dollar to go with the meal - This is something that indians do alot especially when eating spicy food as it cools the body and definitely helps when eating spicy food.

I decided to get additional rice which was priced at $1 to share with the rest of the family.

Their side of Tofu Sambal is really good aswell!

If you stay in the north and have yet to visit shami banana leaf, please do! They have another outlet @ Causeway point

This is probably one of the stalls at a foodcourt with one of the longest queues! However, they have a few staff working at the stall hence the the queue moves pretty quickly. I opted for the vegetarian biryani. I tried the snake guard, soya bean (pretty spicy), tofu curry and chickpeas. The sides are definitely ideal for anyone who's into spicy food. My favorite was the soya bean which was really tender and well cooked. The biryani rice was also very fragrant and had all sorts of spices including cashew nuts and raisins.

Customers can also opt for more rice at only $1 which would be ideal for 2 people to share among themselves.

This is definitely one of my favorite places to get good food in the north!

A stall that I patronise every now and then due to its generous portions of nasi briyani and great tasting sides and mutton! I really think their mutton deserves some recognition, and it is fairly tender, and they pour quite a lot of gravy as well For a price of $6, I think it is reasonable, in fact, you can even share it with a friend I think they have many sides to choose from as well, and they are yummy too! The queue for this stall is never-ending, so every Singaporean would love this delight.

I was here at lunch time and there was a long queue at this stall. I ordered the chicken nasi briyani, which was the popular dish there. The service was quite fast despite the long queue. The rice was the long kind and is very fragrant with the curry sauce. The chicken is very tender and pretty spicy with the chili. They asked if I wanted vegetables, and I said yes, though not knowing what vegetable is that. The vegetable is a type of gourd I think. The sauce is a little sourish, very appetizing

The rice serving is a lot, probably enough to be shared by 2.
