Tamoya is famed to be the Home of Udon in Japan, and I'm just so happy that it came to Singapore! Ordering is a simple self service process. We had the regular bowl of the signature Kake Udon ($5.15), one hot and one cold. The udon is fresh, chewy and springy and the soup is flavourful and delicious! The cold udon is chilled, refreshing and shiok, while the hot one is as awesome! Both of us shared 5 sides including the Prawn Tempura ($2.65), Shitake Mushroom ($1), Croquette ($1.60), Kakiage ($2.15), Chikuwa Tempura ($1.60), and we really enjoyed them! The prawn tempura and shitake mushroom is really delicious to the max, even for someone like me who dont usually like prawns and mushroom, I couldnt resist eating them! That is how nice it is! The Kakiage vegetable tempura is tagged as the most popular item in the house, and it indeed is crispy tasty goodness! The Chikuwa (fishcake) Tempura is very nice and chewy! However, the croquette is quite normal though, next time I would try other sides instead.

The Regular bowl of udon and these yummy sides are really filling and satisfying. If you are very hungry, you can always order the Large bowl and more sides! I like this way of ordering the food, order what you can eat and what you like! After finishing your meal, clear your trays to the tray return station, it is really great to see everyone doing that after their meals! On a sidenote, I wonder why people just refused to clear their trays in foodcourts and fast food restaurants.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the udon and tempura here, and I will be back for more, and to try out other udons and sides! They definitely serve fresh and delicious udon!

Chanced upon this place while searching for dinner in chinatown point. This seem to be a fast food place for udon noodles. We were looking at the video display outside the eating place. It was showing how they made the udon. Seems interesting. I ordered the zaru udon. Very chewy udon. This is the first time i have eaten such chewy udon. Delicious and light dinner. Will definitely come by again.

The ordering method is fairly simple and do it yourself. You first place an order for the type and size of serving of udon you desire. I ordered a regular basic Kake udon ($4.80) which was essentially basic udon served in rich, clear golden broth. I enjoy their udon as it achieves a nice chewy and firm texture which reminds me of the udon i had  in Japan. This is unlike some other restaurants with too soggy or too hard udon noodles.

You move on to the next station where you can select your sides ranging from between $1-2. I went a little crazy with their wide spread of fried and tempura items. I ordered shiitake mushrooms, kitsune, kaki age, eggplant and tempura- while keeping my bill just slight over $10! I felt their vegetable items were fresh, but I did find the fried tempura items to be a little soggy- perhaps they have been placed out in the open for too long.

The is also another counter where you can place your orders for more side dishes or sushi- but I decided to give it a miss- I already had too much in my plate!

After payment, and being served by this friendly japanese lady- I proceeded to help myself at the condiments bar. I added my favourite toppings such as spring onions, radish seaweed and tempura flakes- the amounts are not restricted and you can help yourself to whatever that's available!

Overall I enjoyed my bowl of udon- for the chewy texture, slurp worth udon noodles and the wide range of ingredients and toppings available!

Tamoya's style of ordering is you get to pick & match your choice of tempura from the bar counter. There is quite a variety to suit different taste! Personally, I go for the Ebi Tempura, Shitake Mushrooms & Potato Tempura. I like to share the various tempura with my friend. This trip was mainly to check out its Beef Udon (Kake Style).

Upon selecting your choice of tempura/sides, you just need to hand over to the counter & make your payment. Next, head over to the condiments section for some garnishing such as the crispy flakes, wakame seaweed and sauce. There is also free flow of ice water and soup refill available.

My first reaction when I tried the beef slices, it's simply oishii
! The thin slices of sweet & salty beef were cooked just right; not too stiff & the taste suits my taste bud perfectly! The hand-made udon immersed in the light Kake broth was chewy! yummy! Even my friend who is not a 100% beef lover agreed with me that the beef udon is nice!

I will return again to Tamoya to try its other dishes, maybe the Curry Udon next round!

Tamoya is the home of Sanuki Udon, which is characterised with its extremely delicious and super chewy texture. Tamoya ordering process is similar to a fast food chain. At first you decide on the type of udon you want, hot or cold; Regular or Large. Then Proceed to this counter to order. When you get your udon, choose what toppings you want. (Tempura, sushi, or even rice dish). When its done, make the payment at the counter and proceed to add free condiments to your udon or toppings. They have wasabi, soya sauce, tonkatsu sauce, spring onions, crumbs, etc. Everything here is in self service mode, including returning your bowl at the end.

As this is our first visit and everything looks so yummy. We decided to order 3 regular type of udon. Kake (serve with Golden Broth), Bukkake (serve with thick soya sauce taste), and Zaru (cold). On my first slurp of the udon, I realise the texture of the udon is thick, very springy, resilient and tasty. The clear golden broth and soya broth taste quite robust, complement the udon perfectly. To experience the most springy texture of the udon, you should try the cold (zaru) version. The cooling process make the udon contracted, resulting in 'helping' the udon to be more springy and resilient compare to the hot version. Frankly speaking, I am a more ramen than udon person because it become soggy if it is served hot, however after trying Tamoya udon, it really change my opinions on udon totally. Yummyyyyy!!!

For the toppings, we ordered the Fried Chicken ($2), Chikuwa (fish cake) Tempura ($1.50), Kitsune ($1), Prawn Tempura ($2.50) and Shitake Mushroom ($1) to share. The Fried Chicken is huge and crispy. It is well marinated and tasty. The prawn tempura is slitted open and it is quite big. It is well battered and fried to a perfect tempura texture. The same can be said on the shitake and chikuwa. Tamoya ensure the toppings are always fresh and crispy, the chef only fried a little batch of food each time, depending on the demand.

As a gentle reminder, we have to clean up our mess and return the tray to the designated shelves after we complete the meal. Don't you just love the Japanese efficiency. Our MOM must love them dearly for being supportive!!! There is not much of service needed, but the chef and staff is very warm and friendly.

Overall, we totally enjoyed our dining experience here. The udon is just superb. I think if you roll it into a ball, you can use it a squash ball replacement. The food is nice, the price is reasonable and the service is very fast. How I wish my office is nearby Chinatown and it will be my favourite lunch destination. Cheers!!!
